 Yama no Susume (Encouragement of Climb) is a currently ongoing slice-of-life manga series written and illustrated by Shiro, starting in 2011. It also has an anime adaptation that has received multiple seasons, starting with the first season in 2013, consisting of 12 5-minute-long episodes, followed by a second season in 2014 with 24 15-minute-long episodes and a third season in 2018 with 13 15-minute-long episodes. And now a fourth season is on the horizon, slated for 12 full length episodes. Plot As a child, Aoi Yukimura adored mountains and was passionate about climbing. However, a playground accident has since left her afraid of heights, turning her toward indoor hobbies. Unfortunately, now a shy and timid first-year high school student, Aoi has become so absorbed in these pastimes that she can barely socialise with others, leaving her practically friendless. It’s only when she runs into the lively Hinata Kuraue, an old friend from her climbing days, that things start to change. Impulsive and high-spirited, Hinata insists on having Aoi join her in all sorts of climbing activities. Though reluctant at first, Aoi quickly finds that her time with Hinata brings back fond memories of their childhood and soon decides to start climbing again. As the return to her past hobby starts to bring her out of her shell, Aoi finds herself gaining close friends, taking on new challenges, and continuing to find her own encouragement to climb. Characters Aoi Yukimura   A high school girl who became afraid of heights after falling off a playground structure and breaking her leg. Thanks to Hinata's influence, she begins to take an interest in mountain climbing. Hinata Kuraue  A hyperactive girl who loves mountains. She was friends with Aoi in elementary school before reuniting with her in high school. She encourages Aoi to conquer her fear of heights and take up mountain climbing. Kaede Saitō  A senior student in Aoi's high school who loves mountain climbing. She befriended Aoi when they met in an equipment store. Kokona Aoba  A middle school student Aoi and Hinata met and befriended on a mountain trail. Honoka Kurosaki  A young photographer who Aoi meets while climbing Mount Tanigawa.

Hyped for this. Season 1 was fine but season 2 and 3 were really good and I want Aoi to reach the top of Mount Fuji..

good show that more people should try, it really does have some of the best animation and art in the genre apparently the first 4 episodes of s4 are gonna be recaps though and then 8 new ones, i guess they still don't quite have the resources to make a normal full season of anime at the show's production levels

Anyways I've begun my rewatch in prep for s4, and I really forgot how cheap the first season looks, even with each ep being a 3 minute short. It does still have it's own charm though. And s2 is an immediate step up, both visually and in being able to just let the characters have a moment to breathe since each ep is now 11 minutes long.
