Megathread for all things Vivziepop, aka Vivienne Medrano, an American animator, illustrator, comic creator and voice actress. She is best known as the creator of the adult animated series Hazbin Hotel (produced by A24) and Helluva Boss (can be found on Youtube). Warning, these shows are super not for kids, so tread lightly. Episode 5: Nice to see Millie get to be something other than hyperprotective murderwife. I wouldn't be surprised if this episode was a meta-commentary on that, since that's a particular criticism I've seen lately.

Yeah, this was a fine episode. Couples/fight and argue, and I expected that Millie/Moxxie were eventually gonna butt heads. But Moxxie at least didn't double down once he realized how much he was hurting his wife. Also man nothing goes right for Blitz at all. Just oof.

This episode was kind of weird to me. There's some real good stuff here, but some of it didn't work that well for me. I really liked the stuff with Millie this episode, but conversely I wasn't huge on Moxxie's stuff. Moxxie's half of the Moxxie/Millie story felt kind of half baked to me but I can't really articulate why. Maybe I just couldn't deal with the voice Moxxie was putting on for the character, because I visually liked his disguise. Millie's stuff though was very fun, and she had probably my favorite song from the whole series so far. It's nice to get a little more insight into her character. The Barbie thing was also kind of weird. It happened and then it was over in the span of like less than 5 minutes and that didn't really feel like enough time to devote to a character that's gotta be pretty important to Blitzo's past. Granted there's a certain level of building up in my head what the eventually Barbie introduction was going to be like but still. On the other hand, I really liked the character herself. Good voice acting, I like her design a lot, I hope when we revisit her it's sooner rather than later. Very nice looking episode though, I can't believe a show with this much polish animation wise is just given to us for free on youtube

I loved whoever they got to do Barbie's voice. A+ all around. I really hope she'll be a more recurring character. i'd really like to see more back and forth with Blitz. Also, did anyone else think Blitz was sneaking in to see Stolas? I thought that was a pretty good fake out

The episode did seem more 'Millie does things' than 'the episode is about Millie' and I'm certainly in favor of Millie doing things but it didn't land like I thought it would.

What, where Blitz calls him a loving disgrace? Because he's right, Moxxie took the job and spent a full week playing dress up instead. Yeah, weird dynamics in this episode. But the imps all getting hit full in the face with a bag of powdered heroin was funny, and the incest joke at the end as well.

It does feel like some of these people have graduated from MLP and Owl House and the like and are suddenly learning that crude adult humour exists. It's not even the most egregious example, there's plenty of moments in South Park and various Adult Swim shows that go way harder.

I feel like most bad faith HB criticism falls in to one of several categories 1)Why did a funny thing happen in this comedy show? 2)Why does this character act in a way I don't like? 3)Why was this plot point not resolved immediately? 4)Why did conflict happen? And my new personal favorites that I'm seeing pop up more and more recently 5)Why does this R rated comedy have R rated jokes? 6)Why is this show not a completely different show that I made up in my head and am now attached to? I've seen more than one Helluva Boss Rewrite posts which, like, fanfiction is fine but this carries an air of, "here's how I'D write the show in which it would be BETTER," in which case, I dunno girl, just watch something else? Yeah, exactly, nearly all of the characters and their interactions are meant to be enjoyable. A big part of this is when the crew behind the the two shows create a character they are actually creating a character. They have personalities, a purpose and a fun, if busy, design. You just need to look at crowd shots to see just how much fun they have designing characters. Compare that to something like say Family Guy and how it treats the overweight. Crowds of them all look virtually identical, staring dull eyed while they gasp, fart and eat candy. They exist purely as a fat joke. That's not too say fat jokes can't be funny, early Simpsons had some great ones, like Homer eating all the donuts in hell or being constantly outwitted by pie. But Family couldn't care less about creating characters or telling jokes, they just think fat people are gross and they'll use any excuse to let their audience know. But Helluva Boss never does that, it's rude and crude, but it's shockingly....I dunno....wholesome? That's a weird as hell way to describe Helluva Boss, but at the end of the day, I want nothing but the best for these stupid violent children.
