Yeah I'm having more issues with ammo more than anything. I'm trying to diversify but it's still a struggle. I did grab an upgraded version of the starter .44 revolver and that's pretty loving good.

You know what, knives are cute and all, but put the cheap homemade supressor on the Gewehr and you can drop fools like nobody's business. If I find an elevated position and there's isolated dudes anywhere on the map, or even patrols/groups of 2, I can easily just snipe them and never get detected. Practically free kils.
Yeah, the Improvised suppressor is insane. Kalyna is an elevated rainy night headshot machine with one. I like to use the Quick Prism scope so I can shoot then adjust position.

I just want it because the game loves to spawn dudes on top of you and setting folks up into overwatch for an ambush is sluggish with the UI and animations. So I reload to set them up beforehand

Does storming the bunker on Ernie Island end the game or do you still need to go after the other two missions/targets?

I am a horribly broken individual, but I really, really got used to the controls seen in the Brigade E5/7.62/Marauder series. I keep wanting to right-click to rotate the camera around my dude

I also eagerly await the inevitable Tons o Guns mods. Think of the pure debauchery of gun porn people will make. It's perfect.

For example, this is an early gun store inventory for 7.62 with the Mercapocalypse mod. At the worst trader.

(Later inventory screenshots available by request.) Just think, that janky game had enough of a following to create that monstrosity. Now imagine what the JA fan base will do to this new game.

Why even bother putting .22 in apart to puff up the numbers of guns?
I really hope mods don't go this route with your only choices being Massive floods of Crud or Basic Game Selection. Even v1.13 takes it a touch too far. Who cares about 1565644 variants of the AK47 being in game?

is there any reason to use handguns beyond Ernie Island? currently have dual pistols and an AK on Meltdown, figured the accuracy perks she has would be fine but for the most part only have pistols for alt loadouts where the other hand is holding an explosive.
Totes. I stuck Meltdown with a single Anaconda (The upgrade of the Peacemaker) with Long barrel and UV Dot sight switching between AP/HP ammo when needed from mid-game all the way to end-game. Cheap damaging ammo and cheap shots.
The Deagle is ok, can't snipe with it like the Anaconda but does a touch more damage and you can put suppressors on it. I didn't care much for the .50 conversion because I didn't get a lot of SLAP ammo for it and the range decrease is blegh.

Honestly even the Peacemaker with a Long barrel is a good early-game sidearm.

I'm in the Mortars Suck camp. The one-turn delay and the random spread when they actually drop, it's poo when you could just rain 40mm instead.

I find Sniper overwatch midding. Sniperwatch hurts a lot when you whiff or clank terrain with the 1 shot they get off.
At least AS overwatch shoots more bullets. Overlap a spot with 2 mercs (I had Raider and Meltdown) and I found it more useful than Sniperwatch. Even if it doesn't kill once you start modding guns for it, it softens up the target so you can spend less AP on aiming with snipers.

I remember being vaguely intrigued when it was announced because of the turn based tactics + Cold War espionage setting, but never picked it up and the name is generic enough that I kept confusing it with other games.

I did, it was pretty fun for a while. I liked the setting and aesthetic, I liked the spin on the formula where you don't necessarily want to kill everyone on the map. Ultimately I didn't finish it because there wasn't enough mission and tileset variety, after a while you're just doing the same thing over and over.
It's deff one of those games where you don't want to sit around on the map and grind up too much. While you're grinding you'll repeat the maps over and over and over then when you finally tackle a Story Mission you'll have to do some pre-Story grinding after it on that same stuff.

What scares me is there's a longer New Game+ campaign with an expanded story.
