And it made one-eighth the difference.
Give Watson's knees to Chubb.

Looking forward to the Titans defense crushing Watson.

Fields does look kind of "slow" in terms of his dropback and general pocket movement, but I always thought Herbert moved the same way. Like very deliberate, not super twitchy. The difference, of course, is that Herbert is really good and knows what he's doing

I'm surprised, too, but I probably shouldn't be. They had at least one Monday game a year basically every year, and I guess I lost track of when they had two.

The ratings must be good if they keep showing up on Monday night.

What shouldn't be a surprise is the NFC East's dominance of that slot.

The Saints spent a good chunk of time being contenders in that time span and even when they weren't they weren't far removed from a season when they were. Plus they had a top QB. Makes sense they'd get a lot of MNF.

There were a lot of good MNF games with the saints on it. Once upon a time they had a good offense and made games exciting, even if they blew the opponent out. Probably meant they had good ratings and ESPN has been desperate for that on MNF.

Panthers, Saints, Falcons, and Browns. He had supposedly narrowed it to Atlanta and New Orleans before Cleveland came over the top and offered him all the money.

Drew Brees in the dome on Monday night was a thing of beauty. The NFL was always trying to get them and Dallas in a primetime game against each other.

If we're thinking of Monday Night Football as, like, the B-team main event, the Drew Brees Saints kind of fit that bill perfectly. Not quite Brady/Manning/Rodgers/Mahomes, but still a HOF quarterback.

The best MNF game was the 54-51 Rams-Chiefs game from 2018.

Fun runner up was the 2009 Colts-Dolphins game where Miami had like 48 minutes time of possession and still lost because :manning:

The saints are the perfect team to entertain neutral fans. Up until recently they’ve had an extremely well oiled offensive machine for like fifteen years or some poo poo, and now they have an elite defense with an offense that has very exciting playmakers and a lot of potential.

Never so good that it was a foregone conclusion they would win, but always good enough you could count on them to not put up a boring goose egg in prime time viewing hours

How is Dallas possibly so low on this. Every primetime game is Dallas and/or NYG. Maybe it's offset by a billion SNF appearances.

I think it's that the Cowboys are typically the main event and MNF isn't that. The Jets may have had a few MNF matchups but they haven't a SNF game since 2011.

Yeah, I remember MNF being *the* game of the week growing up in the 90s and early 00s. ABC did a fantastic job with the production.

NBC really picked up the slack with SNF, but it's created a situation where the MNF games are kinda an afterthought instead of the climax of the weekend's schedule.

Looking at the Watson contract, I don't think they legitimately have any other option than hope Watson doesn't suck for the next couple years at least. There's 0 chance in hell that Haslam admits he was wrong and burns that bridge anyway.

Jonathan Taylor would be a decent fit to replace Chubb, but the lack of draft picks we have thanks to Watson kinda fucks that route. We're probably stuck with a cooked Hunt.

Yeah, it’s well documented that the big marquee game of the week switched from MNF to SNF when ESPN got MNF and NBC got SNF starting with the 2006 season.

ESPN basically paid a fuckton of money assuming they’d still get all the prestige and everything that came with just being MNF.

However, NBC brought over Al Michaels and John Madden and most of the behind the scenes people from ABC, which mattered a ton, and made the (Seemingly very simple) suggestion that the biggest game of the week should be on Sunday night rather than the next day as it had been for the previous decades. Combine that with the creation of flex scheduling for later season games at the same time and boom, SNF became the thing it is today.

Meanwhile, while MNF still got some big games, they mostly got the same divisional second-tier match ups that ESPN had previously gotten when they’d had the SNF package prior to 2006. Then, that started getting further diluted once TNF became a thing, and the league started pushing to make that more than just AFC South divisional games so ‘everyone gets a primetime appearance’ when that was a thing in the late 00s and 2010s.

Was thinking there's no way they could pay Taylor but I guess if Chubb is truly dead his contract is very cuttable next year (:(). Still don't think it makes sense to do if Indy continues to ask for first round picks and/or Jaylen Waddle as compensation.

I mean, still a pretty small sample size and I imagine a majority of those 0-2's are more no-hopers like Arizona and Houston rather than teams with actual talent a la the Chargers, Bengals, and the Vikings.

It happens about 10% of the time historically if you expand to the last 30 years including at least 3 superbowl winners I can think of, No-Emmitt Cowboys, Brady's first year, '07 Giants.
