This is a closed setup high-power game for themed after one of my all time fave video games, Star Control II, a weird space exploration story adventureish dialogue-driven genre-defying epic from the early 1990s.

Discord is required to play, here is the link:
Eliminations will be by majority vote with hammer once majority is reached. No-elimination days are possible.

Rules and Regulations Boilerplate:

Rules and Regulations Boilerplate
  • Standard rules apply.
  • Discord is required to play. Please join https://discord.gg/esSkwPPj (observers also welcome).
  • Do not edit posts except to fix pronouns.
  • You may post at night as long as you're still alive cuz yolo
  • Do not quote or copy-paste out-of-thread information like moderator messages or private chats. Paraphrasing the contents of such messages is okay.
  • Do not discuss the game with anyone outside of authorised channels.
  • Do not fake day actions.
  • Try not to lurk. I don't plan on enforcing cuz that ain't really my way. But I reserve the right to replace you or mod-kill you if you’re not able to participate to a degree that’s affecting the overall playability of the game (and you’re not communicating about it)
  • Have fun and be excellent to each other..

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, always remember that your mental well-being is more important than a forum game. While antagonism and deceit are inherent features of social deduction games, there are lines that should not be crossed that may be highly personal. If you feel stressed out, IRL angry, or in any other way discomforted beyond what you feel is part of the game, do not hesitate to reach out and say so. Nobody will think ill of you if you have comments or concerns, or want to leave the game at any point, before the game or during the game. The following users have been suggested as points of contact if you do not feel you can reach out to the game-runner: The Traditional Games forum moderators, Leperflesh and Antivehicular; and Mafia regulars VoodooFly, Hal Insandenza, Bifauxnen, Monathin, Wologar, Maerlyn, EccoRaven, CCKeane, Opopanax, Sandwolf and Shellception.

Some days even my lucky rocket ship underpants don't help

Star control 2 was like my white whale growing up. I could either never find it or by the time I did it wouldn’t run on my computer and I was never smart enough to fix it

So finally time to remedy that!

Also is there a good way to play it now?

Yes! Look for The Ur-Quan Masters, it combines the PC version with the 3D0 version that had voices into a nice package that runs on modern systems and I think is entirely free at this point. There is a little bit of hoops to jump through to get all the bits installed I think but it’s not too tough.

I’m old enough to have played it’s spiritual predecessors Starflight 1/2 but those are a little too archaic, SC2/Ur-Quan are much more accessible to a modern gamer (but it’s still from the mid-90s so you know…)

I really can’t think of anything that’s come along that quite has the same feel.

The ship to ship combat is definitely tough to deal with but thankfully it’s not super prevalent

Ship to ship was weird for the campaign, but 1 v 1 deathmatch in Ur-Quan Masters was dope. Obligatory signup and play Ur-Quan if you haven't recommendation.
