I wish Flying Wild Hog would figure out how to make gunplay consistently good. Most of SW's weapons feel really underpowered and boring to use, especially compared to the katana. It seems to take them forever to kill anything and they aren't not satisfying to use. Even the crossbow is pretty "eh" compared to how fun, effective, and satisfying the katana is, even though the charge ability can do a lot of damage. The only weapons that actually feel powerful are the rocket launcher and fully-upgraded shotgun. The fully-upgraded revolver is really cool and satisfying to use, but it feels like it does poo poo damage against everything except the suicide bombers and the harpy-things.

Hard Reset had a similar problem, where the weapons felt ridiculously weak because it took around 8 shots from anything except the smartgun and rocket launcher to kill the stupid saw robots you encounter at the start. Anything stronger than them took for-loving-ever to kill because of how poo poo your guns were.

I thought the weapons were fine overall. The only ones that really felt weak were the smgs and the flamethrower. Everything else seemed to pack a good punch. Especially the exploding crossbow bolts. :getin:

My latest run was in Hard, so it's probably more of a complaint regarding higher difficulties than the guns in particular. :shobon:

I beat Hard yesterday, and the only guns I used against normal enemies were the rocket launcher (love that thing), the flamethrower, and the revolver. The katana accounted for a a vast majority of my kills. I'm not complaining, because it's loving awesome. I think it'll probably be like that in Insane as well.

Remember to make good use of environmental objects, they will be your saving grace on insane if you actually want to get some decent battle ratings and not have to katana everything to death

Yeah I definitely regret upgrading the flamethrower's ammo and damage when I first picked it up - at that range the sword is better in every way. I also thought the PDW would be my lightning gun equivalent until I started getting Warlord heads.

Berzerkers have been the least fun part of the game so far, especially in pairs.

Just beat the game. Overall I had a great time, but I agree with some of the others that posted that, by the end of the game, I'd kinda lost hold on the plot thread and Wang's motivations. Ultimately it didn't hurt my experience, but it's unfortunate. I'm definitely hoping they made enough sales to try doing Blood!

I'd buy a Blood or Redneck Rampage remake.

This game would be pretty much the perfect "kill tons of bad guys in awesome ways" FPS if they took out the charging bull dudes and those invisibitches with the swords.

Still sad the Devolver Digital Blood game won't happen because Atari wanted too much money apparently. :( It would be kind of tricky to make though - make it too realistic and it would lose a lot of its horror B-movie charm.

edit: Or was it Warner Brothers. That game has one of the most hosed up IP / source code situations I swear.

I want to finish my Insane run, I want to play through on Heroic mode. But those loving Berzerkers become such a goddamn nightmare I'm not even going to bother anymore.

Picked this game up over the Steam winter sale, about 8 hours in and so far it's one of the best shooters I've played in years and possibly the only one I've played with an enjoyable melee system. I really didn't expect it to be this much fun!

I thought Shadow Warrior was an average shooter, but an excellent melee–er. :v: I only wish they didn't pretty much take away the fully upgraded Nobitsura Kage after you get to annihilate exactly one wave of demon minions with it at the end of the game. :argh:

The cloaking ninja... things are actually a good use of the flamethrower since they panic or at least stay lit up. Shotguns for them all day, though.

The best way to deal with the cloaking zombie ninja women is a four-barrled shotgun blast or a charged Divider of Heavens to the face. :black101:

3/4 of the way through now. Still having heaps of fun and would recommend it to anyone. But this has to be the most poorly optimised game I've played it years. Slow down is absurd.

It runs perfectly fine for me and I'm on a perfectly ordinary laptop. Of course the native resolution is lower(1366x768) because of the screen, but it isn't like I have a blazing graphics chip. Try turning off mirrors, that was the only setting I had to pass on.

Flying Wild Hog loves those guys. Hard Reset has a nearly identical enemy, only they have four times as much health and exist in a game without dodges. I have half as much time in Hard Reset as I do in Shadow Warrior and I'd be lying if I said that wasn't a factor.

Honestly the issue with the Berzerkers is that there really aren't any tricks you can do to alleviate how annoying they are, I mean the closest things you have are getting the laser guide for the missile launcher so you can actually use it against them effectively, and I guess the Divider of heaven since you can hit them in the back or front and it will hurt them (albeit not that much either way)

They are also really buggy which (for me) is the real bitch, can't tell you how many times I've been insta-killed because they hit me and didn't stop charging, or when they just kind of phase through a solid object I was trying to guide them into, or when they just kind of slide off of a solid object instead of ramming into it

Heres a thing: I can kill berzerkers quite quickly with a charged up crossbow, but its somtimes hard to tell If I'm hitting them correctly. Occasionally the arrows will miss completely or register as hitting the stone part and not the glowy bit. I'm still undecided which enemy I hate more though, them or those goddamn necromnacer jerks.

I actually liked them better in that game because if you sprinted out of the way at the last moment they'd usually crash into a wall, at which point you could just shoot their leg armor off and take them out fairly quickly.

Beserkers on the other hand keep following you after you dodge and have glitchy hitboxes and yeah just gently caress those things in general.

God, yes, they would have been moderately annoying if they didn't swerve to hit you. But they do, and this is not an "old school FPS-s are hard" thing, it's a "gently caress you, that's why" thing.

But finished it, finally. Took me a while, I had some rage-Alt+F4-s (90% of which were due to berserkers). It's a great game, with just a tiny little bullshit on top - yeah, boss is down to its last sliver of health, time for me to just catch the wind of its last attack and kneel the gently caress down. And well, the guns weren't that amazing to design every boss around shooting instead of swordplay (which was awesome). I've bought it on sale, but if they ever do a sequel, that's a day one purchase.

Played the hell out of this game on Normal difficulty the past couple of days, finished it earlier tonight. Amazing game, and also an amazing looking game. I had everything pumped up and probably snagged a few new desktop backgrounds out of it.

I am kind of annoyed we didn't see The Twins again though, I kept figuring you'd run into them before dealing with Zilla.

Yeah, I picked this game up due to the Summer Sale, and it's pretty refreshing how Wang isn't that dumb, his "Wangcave" notwithstanding (and even the Wangcave isn't as bad as it could be).

I bought this game earlier this week after trying the demo and a game as poorly designed, unbalanced, stupid, insulting, and racist as the original Shadow Warrior has no right to be remade into a game as good as this. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around, with good games getting poo poo remakes? The level design is great, the melee combat is even better, and lots of games have a katana but this is the only one that has a LIGHTSABER KATANA. :black101:

Kind of a shame, though, about how puny most of the guns feel, even on Normal. Not really looking forward to having to fight gun-only bosses.
