Jaxon Willow

Jax Willow grew up in the quiet residential area of Sunrise, the son of owners of one of the plantations that helped provide Sasserine with its wealth. While many of the planter elite were willing to leave the running of the plantations to others and just enjoy the wealth it provided, his family loved the plantation for itself, and not just the wealth it brought, and, from an early age, his parents took him out to the fields, and shared with him the mystery of the natural world. His parents would have been happy for him to inherit the plantation, but Jax wanted something more. While most inhabitants of Sasserine worshiped Pelor, there was a small cult of the Old Faith outside the city. Taking the vows of the druid, he gave up his family's name.

He studied among the Druids of the Old Faith and their bardic companions for some time, growing and developing his skills as both druid and bard. While he was studying, he found and rescued a wolf cub whose parents had been killed by hunters. Naming her Moonlight, he trained her to become his companion and friend.

After five years with the druids, he came to the attention of the Vanderboren family. A blight had hit the Vanderboren's fields, destroying their crops and threatening to ruin the harvest. Feeling that this would be a learning experience for Jax, the druids sent him to deal with the problem. He soon discovered it was no natural blight, but one of magical origin. Under the fields, there had been an evil cursed amulet, of ancient origin, that had been disturbed by Vanderboren farmers when new fields were brought under cultivation. Jax succeeded in discovering and breaking the curse, winning the gratitude of the Vanderborens, but he still has no idea where the amulet came from, or why it was cursed.

It really is a lovely hat

Acidalia Livingston

Acidalia was a young student of arcana at the academy when her parents died. It wasn't anything sinister, the watch said, just a fire. The world hardly noticed, and after a somber funeral Acidalia went home with her aunt, to set her parent's affairs in order. One weekend with Aunt Ardith's sprawling garden estate turned into a week, into a month, and at the end of it she'd taken a year long sabbatical before resuming her studies. From the point of view of her teachers and classmates, the new Acidalia was much improved and they were relieved she'd weathered the tragedy so well. She was focused, dilligent, even driven. Where before her life had been one of easy wandering, coasting by on natural talent, she now applied herself with vigor. When one of her advisors asked about the change in direction of her studies, she was so cooly rebuffed that she simply signed the papers. Acidalia transfered her focus from arcana to architecture and botany with hardly any complaints. Old Gembleton was nearly beside himself. Here was finally a student willing to listen to his lectures on proper foundations, on sediment and stone. The old dwarf promptly squashed the inquiry from the arcane department, and that was the last of it. Herbology Professor Tonk reported that she was studious, attentive, timely, and it was like watching a flower grow, and so her advisor was mollified. Meanwhile, Acidalia continued to grow distant, until her classmates drifted away. She graduated on time, with honors, and only after graduation did she look around and realize that she had no idea what she was doing or who to do it with. She had plans, of course, and Ardith's approval. She knew how to build a megalith, but finding an appropriate node, that would take help, and not an elderly aunt.

Going to stay straight druid|artificer. Planning to shoot people with spell infused bolts of healing and bad guys with regular bolts for combat, keeping wild shape for out of combat utility.

REMEMBER
There've been a good amount of solid apps, and as lame as it is to not pick everyone not everyone can come along all at once. As of now, I'm going with the following:

Ward, the Warforged Hero/Cloistered Cleric played by Piell
Alator, the Psion/Mindflayer played by ChrisAsmadi
Callie Sutton, the Dragonfire Adept/Totemist played by RPZip
Marika Sanyu Landi, the Psion/Warshaper played by Bouquet
Acidalia Livingston, the Artificer/Druid played by Anias
Cereza Silvestre, the Scout/Swashbuckler played by Nucular Carmul

Go ahead and ask around town about your invitation/patron, and eachother. Form some impressions, all that good stuff. I'll have the game thread up tomorrow!

For those not selected; if you follow the thread I'm planning to use this thread as an OOC area and keep your sheets on file, just in case.

I'd definitely like to know more about the strange dwarven looking man who has been invited alongside me, and the warforged construct as well. I'll certainly talk to the other humans invited of course, but I'm really curious about those two.

Anias, you were talking about shooting healing-spell infused arrows at people. Is there some way you are planning to do that other than Spell Storing Item? I'm not sure you really want to be relying on the spell with a one minute cast time and an xp cost for your main in-combat healing option.

Marika

Marika hurries through the streets, silently conversing with her psicrystal Dalimal and trying to recall any rumors she's heard about the Vanderboren family. The recent graduate is too excited by the new opportunity to take any time doing more detailed research on what the Vanderborens might be after and arrives extremely early. She lingers sheepishly outside the entrance, trying to appear inconspicuous with her heavy bag of equipment, armor and long polearm. She studies further arrivals with ill-concealed curiosity, trying to determine the nature of the others who have received these invitations.

The artificial warrior construct is the first she recognizes, having been somewhat of a fan of his in the Dungeon Bowl competitions. She had been disappointed when the rules were changed to disqualify him; her gifts were far from the heights needed to create such a being herself, but she could imagine a day when it might be possible and felt it unfair to discriminate against someone solely because they had been created from metal and magic instead of flesh and blood.

Marika recoils a bit in surprise when the weird girl from Squid School arrives. From everything Marika's heard, the poor deluded girl actually thinks she's a dragon! And if she's invited, what does that mean the Vanderboren's think about Marika?

Acidalia's arrival is intriguing. She and Marika had started their academic career at about the same time, but then Acidalia had disappeared for a year and returned far less friendly than before. To the best of Marika's knowledge she's competent and holds no delusions about her draconic nature, which is slightly reassuring.

With a start, Marika realizes she's dallied so long that now she's late, and rushes into the manor. As you passes through the gate, one last thought strikes her about the other invitees. A surprising proportion of the invitees are young women, which rouses the recent graduate's suspicions. She's heard rumors and warnings about the sort of person who might arrange such an event, and vows to be doubly on her guard against anything untoward.

Knowledge (Local) +4. Dalimal has a -2 to try for an Aid Another check. Also have Knowledge (Nobility and Royalty) +5 if that is more relevant, although no Aid Another from the crystal for that.

Cereza

Cereza slips quietly through back streets on her way toward the Vanderboren manor, not wanting to draw too much attention to herself. When she arrives, she wonders if she should have bothered. Between the metal man, the odd looking dwarf, and the girl who thinks she can turn into a dragon, she'd have to run through the streets hopping on one foot with a brightly colored banner that insulted many of the major races residing in Sasserine to stick out. Wondering for the fiftieth time if she were simply coasting on her mother's achievements to have received this invitation, she puts on her best smile and approaches the first person who seems to take note of her. "Hi! I'm Cereza Silvestre, great to meet you!"

WORDS IN THE HEART
CANNOT BE TAKEN
Callie Sutton

Callie sketched quietly in the courtyard outside the manor. She'd arrived early - really early - and had been told to wait, so she'd found a quiet spot and started doodling in her notepad. Four full pages, including the back and sides of the invitation, were now completely covered in sketches of dragons breathing fire, and flying, and frolicking through peaceful woodland meadows*. She sucked the end of her pencil thoughtfully before putting the finishing touches on a long, sinuous blue dragon cresting from beneath the ocean, eclipsing the flourishing handwriting on the invitation now buried beneath the dense pencil marks. She looked up, took in the other people as they arrived, and fit them into the edges of her drawings.

*Callie wasn't sure how realistic that last one was, but it looked like it might be fun.

First there was that girl from the House of the Dragon, who Callie managed to fit in between three different dragon sketches. Like she's in a house of dragons, right? She'd never been mean whenever her school would play against Callie's own Mademoiselle Mimina's Academy for Girls of an Enquiring Mind (Goooo Krakens!), but Callie didn't know her very well. She doodled a little squid beneath her sketch and smiled.

The giant metal man was interesting. Callie hadn't spent much time, if any, at the arenas, but she'd seen the posters around town. The light caught his face in an interesting way as he stepped into the atrium, and she captured that moment, superimposing his face onto the back of a bronze dragon rolling around in some sand. Next was a surly-looking dwarf and someone who might have been a dancer. The grumpy dwarf stayed a dwarf when she transferred him to the page, which was odd, but the dancing girl turned into a swooping red dragon. Callie tapped her pencil on the dwarf and frowned before flipping to another page.

The last page was sketched out with a picture of the bundled-up artificer. She studied the stones and plants in the atrium as she walked, and there was something in her step that suggested great care. Callie's sketch made her slow, careful, and powerful, like a great golden dragon. And finally Callie sketched herself, two distinct sketches; one was a dragon, combining the forms and shapes of many different types of dragon, and the other was her as she appeared now. The sketches interposed, superimposed on top of each other, to form a unified whole. The only part left truly untouched was her eyes, peering out from the strange hybrid head. Callie smiled before packing the rest of the sketches away and joining the group.

Trying Knowledge Nobility to find out more about Vanderboren and rolling very poorly.
