what the trailers promise: a bunch of sappy "OH I'M ONLY PART HUMAN" nonsense from a weird-looking anime robot, with a few neat-looking visual bits what the movie actually delivers: i have now seen a movie in which a dismembered torso does a kung-fu flip and punches a 9-foot-tall Jackie Earle Haley's eye out y'all need to goddamn see this right now

movie is actually good, see it in 3d before you can never see it again because it didn't make 180 million USD on domestic sales. plot: is largely bad but consider the source material. The manga wasn't gripping even back in the day. The characters are so-so, and the action is top notch. The 3d is great.

The manga is probably the only anime thing I've ever really liked. The movie isn't going to amaze anybody, but it was solid and cool. No regrets from me while watching.

The dialogue is the only thing that falls flat, whoever wrote that didn't do a good job. Everything else is pretty fantastic. Couple fun facts: 1. People comment on Alita's eyes in the manga, too. It was uncanny to them, just as it was for us, so that part is true to the source material. 2. Alita's cgi body was designed from the inside-out. In other words, there are dozens of contraptions rendered in her body that we can't see. Pretty extra and pretty cool. I watched it in theaters and got really into it for a while, still kinda am into it. Hope Cameron follows it up soon.
