The 2019 season kicked off with the Mariners and A's playing a series in Japan, and Ichiro got a nice sendoff, but for the rest of us, Opening Day is Thursday - less than a week away. I mostly went with boring, safe choices (Mike Trout wins AL MVP, Chris Sale wins AL Cy, Cardinals win second Wild Card and the World Series) except for RoY because I only know Giants' prospects and Vlad Jr.

This is finally the year that Buxton breaks out. Which means he will: Hit at or above .270 with an OPS of .850 or more Hit 25+ HR Steal 25+ bases Maintain outstanding defense stay healthy enough to play in 145+ games If *any* of these are wrong, I'm changing my av to the dorkiest pic of Buxton I can find accompanied by the words "I was stupid enough to believe Byron Buxton could figure it out at 25" for the Lowtax Isn't Dead Yet fund. To be honest it's that 145+ games that's my biggest worry.

Gonna leave this open a few more days, then post the results. My picks: AL: Yankees, Indians, Astros. Wildcards: Red Sox, Rays. I sure didn't think I'd pick Tampa bay to make the playoffs but they might be the 5th best team in the AL. Everyone else is bad or tanking or both. NL: Mets, Cubs, Dodgers. WC: Nats, Phillies. I think the NL east is the strongest division in baseball, and anyone but the Marlins could win it, but I love the Mets offseason and their young core of homegrown players. I picked the Rays and Mets to make the World Series, because it'd be a lot more fun than Yankees/Dodgers or whatever. Flipped a coin and went with the Mets to win it all. Hell, crazier things have happened.

I predict eating some hot dogs in the bleachers at Wrigley this year dammit! Also an Old Style or two. And lots of baseball! (I give it 3 months until Phillies fans are complaining bitterly about Bryce Harper)
