You can turn a pawn into a Queen in order to win easier but if you turn it into a doctor, lawyer, or engineer you get +20 to parental approval & satisfaction.

not strictly a rule, but it's considered a faux pas to slap the timer when your turn ends. you're supposed to make eye contact with the timer and firmly press the button, like as if you were doing a business handshake

not so much a rule but a strategy: you dont have to be good at chess to win, you just have to wait for your opponent to use the restroom.

then you simply rearrange the pieces, tip over the board and leave.

it's actually considered very disrespectful in grandmaster play to not eat all your captured pieces. you can get around this by pushing the board back a little, patting your stomach and doing a tiny burp

Doing that thing where they say "checkmate in 12 moves" but it's total bullshit and you just want to make them rack their brains in confusion for a while trying to figure out how the hell it is possible.

However long it takes, it's in the rules that it's okay to do this as long as sometime later you say "oops, my bad".
