What are you using to record shows that you rely on over-the-air broadcasts to receive?

One of these PVRs with an HDD like this. The firmware on the box isn't perfect and requires occasional reboots but it does make DRM-free recordings. On my computer I use Handbrake to transcode them from .mts into usable formats.

Also stop making everything an ad at the end, jesus christ.

This Tick Tock PSA was great.

I love how Driver kept leaning on his status as a veteran... only to admit that he helped block doors with Governor Wallace.

I liked the Actor's Journey better than the Court Case sketch, but man, Adam Driver has got to be one of the best guest hosts of SNL in the last decade or so.

He can turn meh writing into gold. I didn't love the tiny purse sketch, but every time they cut to him, he sold the hell out of it. He went with a totally different vibe than everyone else, and it worked way better.

He's had my eternal respect when he stretched out his monologue to run out of time for the transphobic sketch slotted in the 12:55 slot. Then announced that it's what he was doing at the end of the monolgue.

Also, how does Julia Stiles look the same age.

Caught up these the other night and enjoyed the last run of episodes, even the one my friends said they hated and bailed on. Emma Stone episode could've used a sketch with Sarah Squirm playing Emma Stone, kept thinking woe they're giving her a ton of sketches this episode but it was Emma.

Adam Driver baby sketch was so dumb but perfect.

I really like this current cast.

Nothing pleases cats more than being in a strange place with a bunch of other (probably) strange cats and getting handled by a bunch of strange people.

Billie Eilish holding it together even when getting cat hair in her mouth though is pretty solid work.

Edit: Which I suppose is kinda Christmas-y, but not the Christmas show.

"Yes I can hear you, I don't have ear cancer!"

I’m starting to think that I agree with the opinion that it’s time for Jost and Che to move on from Update. It’s gone from what is usually the high point of a bad show to kinda dragging things down for even a middling episode. They’re still good for a few laughs, but their shtick is getting stale.

Khanstant

I like the guests because it's a break from the stale routine. They found a dynamic that worked, then ran it into the ground until they got stuck in this rut but seem happy to spin the wheels without going forward. Not looking forward to how they handle next year, would love a shakeup in them as anchors, if not, they gotta workshop a new suite of bits.

Lorne is just hanging on for the 50th anniversary. I'm guessing he'll leave at the end of next season and MAYBE NBC will hire Seth Meyers/Tiny Fey and most of the cast/writers leave and they hire new ones. It'll be an entirely new show.

Or they just cancel it. But either way, nothing changes until after season 50.

Tonight we wrap up the year with yet another Vintage that's anything but. In fact this one is from this calendar year, 11 months ago—Michael B. Jordan with Lil Baby from January 28 2023.

For the record, there was no Vintage last week; NBC ran (last year's) SNL Christmas Special again instead.

Happy new year!
