He also came of age during the 60s, the time of black nationalism and white flight -- and growing up in New York means he was in an epicenter for a lot of that. I'm not going to apologize for him, but given that upbringing you can't expect him to be Mr. Enlightened. I just think he's a product of his times. As a guy who's pushing 60, he's got an outlook that people born in later decades can't really process, because it's rooted in ideas on race & society that most of us consider outdated now. Hence the apparent preoccupation with white dudes banging black chicks -- he probably doesn't hate black dudes, or white chicks who bang black dudes, but he was raised at a time when that was a big no-no and I imagine some of that attitude is still in him somewhere. Does it make more sense if I say it that way?

His mother was very liberal as he's said time and time again on the show. She liked black people and tried to teach Howard to " not be afraid of black skin" He just told a story last week about his mother's black friends one of whom had an accounting firm. Do you guys listen to the show?

Yeah, but the way he gets about the black men/white women thing shows a base racial issue that is hidden in the fetish. Stern loves degrading women, and sees white women sleeping with black guys as degrading. Plus, the idea of black men having enormous penises is always bought up in that context as well. It could be a reaction to the norms of the '50s that created the fetish, but at the root of it is a racial stereotype.
