the wu tang (rza's beats) sound pretty unique to me (possibly because they are how i got into rap) so it's hard to directly bite the style like you can with a 3 6 song, and that's not a slight against them at all, but they definitely heavily influenced the sound on a lot of rap records coming from ny
Not many people tried to do the scratchy lo-fi style of beats other than RZA or Havoc, but the volume of Two Bars Of Tinkly Piano beats definitely went up as a result of RZA

I'm assuming 90% of you guys have already heard it so I'm not trying to impress anyone, I'm just posting it cause if you're one of the small percentage of people who hasn't already heard it you should go listen to it now. I've heard it a couple of times but I don't even remember individual lines because I vibe out to it so hard

pretty shocking u havent heard that one until now. but nice one on admitting it.

honestly kingcobweb, i think that album stood the test of time a lot better than most 80s rap albums. like i think most criticisms you could have on it can be applied to most 80s rap. plus the production was way ahead of its time.

well sure it sounds better today than MOST 80s rap, and the beats are good. but it came out after Nation of Millions, Paid in Full, Criminal Minded/By All Means Necessary, etc etc etc and even compared to those the rhyming style sounds pretty bad to my ears.

I prob didn't even get to those, cause after listening to about 10 songs I gave up on it. And yeah I heard it was pretty much a joke album, which I respect that he went through with it but it wasn't something I wanted to actually listen to.

Also FRAT RAP PIONEER MC PAUL BARMAN actually had Prince Paul production on his first EP, and it's really good if you haven't heard it.

I think most people forget about him just because he hasn't done anything in a long time and was always kinda a background dude. Also fwiw I've heard he's really difficult to work with which might be another reason he doesn't get the pub he probably deserves.

I think the rapping probably sounded odd then too, Keith has always pretty much just ignored the beat in interesting ways and Ced Gee was never a great rapper (he's pretty decent on the first two Ultramagnetic albums, but then he became incredibly bad). I don't think it really detracts from the album though, it's supposed to be weird space rap from the future and it certainly doesn't sound like any other album from 1988.

yeah thats how i feel, i respect he did that but i'd rather have album with good songs. i have that paul barman ep as well, some really great beats on it. i get why not many people know him, he's never tried to be out there really, i just wish he would get more recognition when people talk about top, top producers. his beats on the new souls of mischief are really good too. never knew he was hard to work with though, that's interesting

I just got around to sitting down and listening to the Random Axe album last night and I have to say: I was really unimpressed. P's a beast, and brings it some on this album, I consider Tronic one of the best albums of the past 5 years, and Ode to the Ghetto was one of the best albums of the year it came out (Which year that is I can't remember). But as a collective they're worse than the sum of their parts. Not to mention some weak rear end guest spots, essentially every guest verse is worse than all the other verses on the track. The beats are a little too out there for my tastes, especially with P and Guilty on the track, a little bit of ignorant poo poo instead of the crazy space hop poo poo Black went for.

^New MMG tape is ridiculous though, that's true.

ehhhh it depends on your tolerance for terrible arguments about who is the GOAT, kids keystyling, and rampant region-hating (though that may be getting better I haven't posted anywhere else in a while) I'm not kidding when I say that most rap forums I've seen are about on par with the Gamefaqs rap board except you can use profanity.
