For a while, I had him in those leather thong wrap leg things, but I look forward to finding some of the revealing girl outfits for him.

That's how I ended up with my giant mage. Four or five tiny women come strolling out, and in walks a gigantic support mage with a big bushy beard and a deep voice. It's amazing because he has obviously been coached to be timid as gently caress by his creator, so the experience is uncannily similar to running around with a protective Hagrid character.

vThat sounds great. I wonder if the two-handers clip through the ground with a character that small? What is your GT? I'd love to give GnomeChomsky (best name) a go in my party.v

GnomeChomsky has been trained to run ahead, straight into battle, and to be ridiculously confident as he does. So you've got this little dwarf man who belts it straight for the biggest, baddest monster he can see, banging on his shield all the way.

Despite this, he's strangely capable - my mage and rogue will be sitting at half health, and then there's Chomsky, just chilling with max health somehow. Kinda thinking of taking him Warrior, just for the ridiculousness of a tiny fat dude wielding a giant 2-handed sword.

Magick Archer is basically the best class. (I am kind of sad that that is a dagger skill when I'm focused on staves, though.)

Hit up the female thieves den. I got a corset, a short skirt, and thigh-high boots in one treasure run. I did see someone's mage pawn (every mage is a girl with nothing under the open-bottom robe) with silk panties, though.

I did staff/magic bow for a while and switched to daggers since having two long range-focused skill sets seemed redundant. Dagger attacks with the magic archer aren't especially powerful, but the versatility is good to have. My favorite strategy right now is to fill a guy up with explosive arrows and use the daggers' dash skill to run in and blow them all up.

Ok. I am 100% going out and getting this game this evening.

Questions: Should I get it on xbox or ps3? is the userbase about the same on both, or does one of them have more users? What about the frame rate/etc?

Finally: is it available for download or do I need to go to gamestop or something?

Thanks!

Fun Shoe
360 has a better frame rate but with screen tearing (alleviated by switching the console to 720p)
PS3 has a less stable frame rate but no tearing

PS3 has a mandatory 4.5gb install. 360 install is highly recommended though and clocks in around 6-8 gb.

Communities seem quite active on both versions so get the game for whichever controller you prefer.

You know I haven't really noticed much frame drop on my PS3 version. I get some slow down in the menus if I am in the middle of the city (I assume from the texture fetch for gear preview) but aside from that it's been fine.

Nothing anywhere near as bad as Blighttown Dark souls.

I do HATE when the servers are flakey though and you are in an area that pumps pawns into the scene. Dialog will hang until it times out or something.

I did this and wouldn't recommend it. Weapons scale to the size of the character so having a tiny character gives them a tiny sword, though its still huge in comparison to them. That means they have a smaller attack range which kind of sucks when the point of the warrior class is having giant weapons.

Though I also think warrior pawns are bad in general and are better off switching to fighter or strider so YMMV. That class is a lot more effective when controlled by the player.

I beat the dragon in the mid 40s. No clue about the post-game stuff. And I'm positive that discipline is not capped by exp, but even if it is level 200 will take so long to hit that there still wouldn't be an effective cap.

I'm sad I haven't seen any of the silly pawns other folks in the thread have. Also kinda sad I didn't just go bugfuck and make the ugliest hunchback motherfucker ever. Pawn seems to be getting a decent amount of use, though, considering I didn't make him Clothesless Anime Girl. Actually picked the smuggest sounding voice out of the lot. Looks ridiculous coming from a tiny wizard.

What kind of party makeup are you guys using? My main's a Strider, pawn's a Mage, I've been rolling Strider/Fighter for backup. Trying Strider/Mage this time to see how two mages on a team roll. With two Striders, poo poo's getting knocked into the air and set on fire constantly. I kind of want to roll with a 4-Strider party at some point just to see how silly it gets.

Anyone actually tried a party of four base classes yet?

Laaaame. 1500 discipline points wasted, I guess. Still, at least I hadn't yet blown all the gold on the ridiculously expensive 2H sword.

Related question - I'm assuming you really couldn't just skip to Gran Soren to take on a hybrid/advanced vocation from the get-go, right? Simply because the entry-level equipment for them tends to cost way, way more than you've got until later anyways? (unless it's an advanced vocation that uses regular base-class gear, like the Assassin, I guess)

Main is a Mage, soon to be Sorcerer. Pawn is a Warrior. I always end making freakish looking characters in these games when I mess with the character creator so I just went the unoriginal route of using the default Warrior model and naming him Guts.

You would have to do a few quests to get enough for a weapon, but money in Dragon's Dogma is easy come, easy go. I rushed to Gran Soren and spent almost all of my money on a 2hander for my pawn, but earned it all back within an hour.

Also warrior gets some pretty good passive traits that can be used by other classes(like strength+20%) so its not a total waste to try it out.

Guessing it'll get better as I get higher level, and access to the other spells. Actually, once I finish delivering Ser Manmeat to the Shadow Keep, I'll probably have quite a few more skills available. It's been a good run for gaining levels, at least.

In any case, I suppose nothing's stopping me from trying both. I wish there was a respect option somewhere, but as of yet, I haven't felt gimped because of spending a few points on a skill line that went nowhere.

but not forgotten.
At first my Magick Archer was pretty underwhelming since I had went from a Strider/Ranger(mostly this)/Assassin(very little). But after getting 5 ranks and a few levels with it, I'm having a blast. I've been going pretty much range-only the whole time with Staves/Bow and it's great. Once you get the higher level versions of spells and more bow attacks, you slaughter everything before it gets close. I like the spells because they're really strong and extremely useful for giant enemies (Ogres/Cyclops/etc). I use the poo poo out of Seeker/Hunter Bolt though.

Maybe my eyes are just overly sensitive to it, but lowering the resolution on my 360 didn't get rid of the screen tearing for me. I may download the PS3 demo to see if the frame rate is that much worse as the screen tearing is really getting annoying.

I am thinking about changing to Warrior, Fighter and Ranger just for a few levels to unlock their Augments (+100hp for ranger level 2 skill, +50 Defense from Warrior, +100hp from Fighter, etc). I can equip them on a Magic Archer, correct? Has anyone done this?

My main is a fighter/mystic knight. My pawn recently switched back to mage after unlocking all the sorcerer augments. I try to get a strider and a ranger. While my pawn was getting the sorc augments, I ran with a mage and ranger.

I've had mixed luck with ranger pawns. Some barely do anything while others are monsters. Just favorite them if you find good ones. I wish the AI settings were more transparent. It would be nice if you could see the bar chart from pawn creation in the Rift.

Likewise. It doesn't even seem to be the skillset - I always make sure they're kitted out with the right stuff, but some of them just end up doing nothing but acting like a punching bag that shoots mildly annoying barbs.

Levitation skill: if I give my fighter dude the "can take a fall" skill, and I levitate down a cliff to explore, will he survive then? Or will there be a meaty thump a few seconds later, and then I'm alone without fighter support?

It's just weird having this old dude surrounded by young women.

And yeah, my pawn is a woman too, but she's muscular and not really young looking like every other pawn ever is apparently and she never gets high ratings on appearance when others summon her. :smith:

For Ranger Pawns, I find they perform better if they don't have daggers. It forces them to only use their bow skills; and that's a good thing.
