The price of meat has just gone up, and your old lady has just gone down

Something clicked over in my head and now I really want to hear more Danny Brown. I went from not liking his voice or rhyming style to the opposite. I think partly it was the interview where dude looks and sounds hilarious, or maybe the spot on c4c, I don't know. But what's some good music with him guesting, mixtape, album to check him out more fully on?

And are people in general booing him at Childish Gambino concerts, or was that just in Indiana? Because what the gently caress, even as someone who can't live down a reputation as a donglover fan that's hosed up, let him do his thing, if Childish Gambino weren't on TV he'd be second billing... First google thing I could find seems to indicate Childish Gambino's audience ain't taking to Danny Brown. Even being as charitable as possible, though, that's some rude bullshit.

Danny is not a good fit at all for Gambino. Most of his fans you would never see at any other rap show. The first CG show I went to in Nashville was full of rap hipsters that would have loved Danny Brown. There was like 50 loving Supreme hats at that show. But Indy was just full of regular hipsters with their girl friends. Like dudes are bumping Foster and The People in their cars type hipsters, with big horned glasses, and tight pants. They even had this "VIP" section where people just stood up on raised platforms with tables, hands in the air like it was a christian concert or something.

Danny needs to play in small venues that are packed with his fans. I bet his show would kill if it was in a place that could hold like 250 people.

It has nothing to do with "hipsters". Good grief have you seen Danny Brown? I dude will out-tight-pants anyone in the crowd. Hell, "hipsters" are part of his core audience.

The problem is they booked an actual, for-real genuinely good rapper (Danny Brown) to open for a fake, cartoony, horrible rapper (Don Glover). It would've been like booking ultramag mc's or black sheep to open for marky mark and the funky bunch. They're not there for rap, they're there to see the funny dude from TV say some funny stuff.

Like seriously, the pitchfork review had the best description about people who listen to donglover in their review of his album:

How exactly can someone be a "fake rapper"? What the gently caress does that even mean? I think you just mean a rapper that you do not enjoy. I like Childish, and I don't like Danny. And I like a lot of other rappers and don't like a lot of other rappers. Who gives a poo poo? But also I was very polite during Danny Brown's set in Indy and did not shout things at the stage.

The same way someone can be a fake basketball player. Just because I buy some jordans and put on my 23 jersey don't mean I'm suddenly ready for the NBA. A fake rapper is someone who pretends to be a rapper, who adopts the trappings but doesn't quite have the ability to actually do the job. Now, because dude was on TV he gets to get on stage and pretend to be a rapper, and that's cool for him but that doesn't mean he should be taken seriously as a rapper (or a musician in general). Just because a bunch of people who don't like rap but... go to see his variety show doesn't mean anything (outside of increasing his wealth)

edit: grammer. Also fake rapper or not, Donald Glover does attract the "I don't usually listen to (c)rap except..." crowd, so it shouldn't be to surprising. I can't really understand being a dick to a guy you paid to see and is clearly a headliner so you couldn't have missed his name, but douchebaggery comes in all sorts of forms I guess.

Woah man. Don't put Riff-Raff down like that.

I came here to post this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63N_u-T4sAc

Metro Zu's Sell Ma Ho, the official video. Pretty good for what amounts to Rubenslikk, Lofty and PeedeyWeedey on a webcam... with some girls stripping via webcam.

That reminds me, apparently the new Propr Boyz (Rubenslikk x Mike Dece) is supposed to drop on July 4th. Pretty pumped. I really enjoyed Dece's first album, 1996, and their first album together was enjoyable too. Although I'd heard some of the tracks from each on earlier Metro Zu releases.

That also reminds me: ASAP Mob, Raider Klan beef. Is anyone following this? Because it is LOL city. I've never seen so many people try to flex their nuts via Twitter.

Considering half the discussion was contrasting him with Danny Brown, I don't think it's necessarily "rappers need to be big and scary" so much as "Don Glover is the Wayne Brady of rap". When he freestyles he asks for suggestions from the crowd for an occupation, a place, and an emotion.
