Fantastic as it is (and it is glorious), you can see the bowing in the Billy whereas the expedit is completely solid.

If you're looking to start a bookshelf collection, start with the Expedit. If you are scrimped for space, go ahead with the Billy but not unless. Expedits are about twice as thick as Billy.

Word of warning, I've never been a big Billy fan. I use Expedit for books and Beno for other media. Both are marginally more expensive but better quality.

I have 2 of the 5x5 Expedit and they are glorious. Deep enough to fit in 300, high enough for an Omnibus. There also used to be a display cabinet in the same series with a bunch of random shelves and spaces in it. It was the size of a 2x3, but cut up in 3 columns with something like 3, 5 and 4 rows, all of the sizes different.

What I love about it is that it has some shelves big enough to fit in Wednesday Comics and others that will barely hold smaller things like Scott Pilgrim.

Am I seeing the Absolute Sandmans on the bottom shelf? You know you have one hell of a collection when you don't need to show those off.

Thanks, Expedits look like the way to go! Once I'm moved and set up again, I'll post some pics too.

I need to find some high capacity DVD/BD and CD shelving as well, but at least there isn't a weight issue with those. My poor Target bookshelves look like they're gonna give up the ghost any day now.

Because it doesn't exist. I have several lovely bookshelves and every time I move some of them break. So the one with the comics is actually two half shelves stacked on top of one another with several brackets screwed into the sides to hold them together as one. The benefit is that it is super strong and tall--probably an 8.5 foot tall comics tower, if I had to eyeball it.

This is about all I have in my tiny apartment (long box and random comics on a shelf in the closet). Most of my Marvel and the Sandman Absolutes and Sin City hardcovers are either on shelves or in boxes at my parents'.

I have room for another short shelf next to the TV, but I think I should get rid of the books that I don't want before adding more storage.

(That's in a really tight spot that's hard to get a clear picture of.)

That gap is all of the free space I have left after I freed up the glass case in the third picture by moving an entire collection to another room. And I got two more books in the mail today...

And I still have two to three shelves worth of manga that need to be put away...

How does that kind of stuff even happen? The Brubaker DCU presents Batmans, the first one never even had anything on the spine, so sometimes I forget what it is on my shelf. Same thing with the first Vertigo Resurrected.

Not as much as I'd like. I'm a big fan of the medium in general (as opposed to being a fan of superheroes or certain creators or characters) and I always feel like there's huge swaths of it that I'm just missing out on. I don't have any 1950's SF or monster comics in my collection, for example. I don't have nearly enough European works in my collection, newspaper stuff going up to about the 1960's, and other golden age works.

But expanding the variety is tough when there's always a hole that needs filling. Every time I finished a shelf I had another two books that I needed to get more of to follow up what I had already enjoyed.

Edit: I just got an e-mail from I wasn't expecting from Amazon. I have a very old pre-order for Essential Captain Marvel volume 2 from years ago when it was on the schedule but it got yanked. Now it's back on the schedule for early next year. I've been waiting for this Jim Starlin cosmic action for a long time...

Here is a beginner's collection as I just got into comics about 4 months ago. Not sure what took me so long, but my love of film noir and crime films got me thinking it'd work well in comic form. The rest is history - I can't get enough, and a lot of these are recommendations from you goons.

(Did anybody else get the Vol 5 trade of Locke & Key early from amazon?)

And my first ongoing monthly comic. I'm assuming this will get deluxe hardcovers down the road - amazing so far.

Yeah, mine came a couple days ago. I'd rack it up with my other ones, but I lent them to my mom last time I visited here, so now I look like one of those clowns who just buys random books.

Also, Saga is amazing, I hope it gets a better printing than the Y hardbacks.

This is great stuff, but I'm spazzing hard at L&K 1 being a different size and the Y books segueing into tpb. Then again, I hate dust covers and always take them off, so maybe ignore my opinion? And the Parker Martini edition is definitely nice enough to upgrade to and lend the smaller books. I'll get a shelf photo sometime.

Believe me it's bothering me too.

I had a friend who moved away and sold his comics to me dirt cheap to help the move - and I got the first 2 L&Ks from him - 1 tpb and 1 hc. I almost didn't take it! But I was helping him out so I didn't wanna be a dick.

Similar case with Y - I had to go buy the first 4 trades myself cuz at the time he lent them out. The deluxes looked so much nicer for the same price, and it's probably gonna force me to upgrade the rest.

I had the same issues with Parker in my head but with the third book coming out I figure I just get the first 2 HC and keep things uniform. Again, upgrade down the road.

Rhino, amazon has L&K 5 listed at a release date 07/24/12. Is it an error on their end?

Yeah, Amazon gets their books through a book distributor rather than Diamond which is understandable given how Diamond cost them a couple of million a few years ago (that was such a great weekend... :spidey::hf::flashfap: ).

What other Omnibuses (Omnibi?) are recommended reading? I currently own Ultimate Spider-Man, Claremont X-Men vol. 1&2, Whedon's Astonishing X-Men, Age of Apocalypse and Fatal Attractions. I'm not really a fan of most of the Silver Age stuff.

I'd get Secret Warriors, but it isn't in stock on Amazon UK/Book Depository yet.
