Stopped by my staples today just to look. They still have a piece of paper up that says if you want to pre order the nexus 7, please speak to an associate. That piece of paper is the only thing in that store that references, Nexus 7.

Yeah a 7" is exactly what I needed. I like using my iPhone and all but a small rear end screen is not always the best thing to read on. With the N7 I can just slip it in my pocket and head to work. As much as I like my ipad as well it's big as hell. It's a mobile Google Reader in my pocket that I don't have to squint at that also has Pandora, Steam, and a browser!

Had mine for a few days. Things I like: - The 7" form factor. Love it or hate it, I love it. Easily held with one hand and it doesn't tire you out. 10" is just too big to use comfortably and any situation where I find myself wanting a 10" tablet I have a laptop ready to go and to be honest I'd rather use that. - Build quality is superb. The news of ghosting and screens lifting had me worried but I'm not seeing either. The seams between the screen, side plastic and rear are almost nonexistent. Side buttons have a very satisfying click, not mushy and don't wobble around in their cutouts. - The feel. Good, solid weight. The non slip, textured back cover is actually quite nice. It's not overly tacky but you don't ever get a sense it's going to fall out of your hands. - The price. $250 for a 16 gig. Not any negatives there. - The speed. This thing screams and not a single stutter out of it. I'm sure some of that comes from Jelly Bean but the specs in it sure don't hurt either. Things I don't like: - As much as I hate proprietary plugs the micro usb connector just feels flimsy for such a sturdy, well built tablet. - Google's insistence on non tablet specific apps. They believe things should scale. Noble goal but it just doesn't work. No one wants a 7" phone so why in God's name would we want to scale an app for such low real estate (3.5-4.3) to something that's larger? What's worse is that even they can't even be consistant about it. GMail uses the tablet interface. Nice! Google Talk uses the phone interface and stretches. Not so nice! I'm just hoping Google Play developers start dual packaging apps for different screen sizes. - The official case. It's a cheap rubber sleeve covering a very nice device. The button covers are sloppy and mushy. The screen cover registers taps on the screen when you close it. Skip it and pick up a nicer cover that utilizes the screen idle magnet. - Speaker could be a touch louder. - Google's customer service. Or lack thereof.

Almost nonexistent in that there are seems like everything have but not huge gaping holes that plague most Android devices. I am very bad at words. I'll get some screens up in a minute.

If you absolutely have to have flash then well, android is the only real option (other than blackberry playbook). But really flash is dead. If sites ever require a newer version than android has right now then you wont be able to use it. Your porn and anime sites will probably move to html5 before long.

Oh thank gently caress, Lynda.com finally has HTML5 video rather than flash for Android. If only they could stop being lazy and get an actual Android app I'd be fully happy. They've had an iOS app since 2010.

Got an email from Newegg today advertising 20% off Toshiba tablets. Obviously they're having a hard time selling them. I went ahead and clicked it to see which ones were in the sale and now 3 of the models are sold out. Newegg coded it ToshibaFiresale. The 10.1" 16GB Tegra 3 model would have ended up going for $312. Did anyone get one?

OK, we've got Skype, CBS News, CollegeHumor, ESPN, eBay, Facebook, Twitter, Vevo, and goodreads. Congratulations Apple fanboys, you found 9 apps which don't have tablet layouts on Android. Screenshots and everything! No doubt this will finally convince the masses that Android is bad, and stop the wave of demand for Android tablets which is now so strong that the Play Store website sold out of the 16GB model. It's a good thing too, otherwise all those people might have purchased one and enjoyed the literally thousands and thousands of apps which do have tablet support. This makes me think two thoughts: 1. Not a surprise that the Android versions are frequently slapdash garbage considering the size of the market. 2. Supposedly, HTML5 will make apps obsolete in many cases, especially media sites. It's interesting, since I haven't spent a lot of time with iPads, I don't have any expectations for design quality and just use it. I think a lot of people that aren't invested in iOS care all that much. Different market. Maybe.

Walked into my closest Staples. All sold out of the Nexus 7. Few hours later walked into another one and got the last one in stock. Thought they were going to withhold it from me when I refused their $100 accident protection warranty.... I'm an Android noob (other than helping my Dad setup some basic apps), and as a less than enthused iPhone owner, I must say this is a fine piece of hardware and just feels perfect in my hand. Very smooth too. Night and day from my experience with other Android tablets on display that I've fiddled with.

Nother I don't know android question. How do I talk Google Now into populating with something other than the weather? I want flight info, and local news, and stuff on there, and places and appointments, per the "sample cards" it shows. But All I've got is weather, and a little information bit on the alarm that is currently going off, not things in my calendar for tomorrow.

From what I've heard/read so far, it seems like there's no way to "force" a specific card to come up. You basically need to feed Now information so it can start to populate. So, for stuff like flights and news, ask it for flights and news. It thought I was asking for directions to a place when I was playing around with it on the first day and now it WILL NOT STOP asking me if I want navigation info to this drat building. (I know there's a way to kill cards if they're unwanted, by swiping to the left/right, I think?) I know at least for appointments, you need to have everything filled in, including an address, for it to trigger warnings like "accounting for traffic, you need to leave now to make it to this thing."

The only thing that added for me was sports scores...which would not show up automatically without that option checked. Maybe it impacts other cards as well.

So far I like the Nexus 7 a lot, I definitely prefer the 7 inch form factor to the iPad's 10". I do wish the side bezels were larger though. While holding it, my thumb tends to hit the screen by accident a bit too often.
