Oh, hey. Did some Youtubin', found some metal. Northern Haze, Inuit metal band, formed 1978? 1984? Getting conflicting info here. Anyway, put out one album in the 80s, and a compilation this year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAflHne54fA Arctic Circle. Black metal tunes about Native American folky things. From Brandon, Manitoba. Not many places more frozen and bleak than that. New album this year. Might be out already? It's in English, though, and I can't vouch for the ethnicity of the band members. One has a pretty obviously Native name. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdQRrAw9M4Q

I hate Agalloch's logo. It looks like something a 9th grader would scribble in his notebook at school as a logo for his "band" that consists of him and his friend that just got a drumset for his birthday.

It would be interesting to hear what they come up with, as their cultural wounds are so fresh. South/Central America seems to have a ton of bands like that, at least according to this thing I just stumbled on (warning most of these songs are bad): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43r74ViCKB0 There's also Mictlan from Mexico who play primitive death metal with native themes

Yeah Soulfly in these two songs made me realize that it would be really awesome if a Native American metal band had elements of funk/groove metal with tribal drum instruments for some songs, and more folk/doom elements for other slower ones. One song that makes you want to jump up and dance around and the other make you feel yearning, sorrow or strife. More Native Metal: Resistant Culture, grind/crust from California. Older tunes have some traditional singing, new tunes seem to have none of it. Medicine Men were from Quebec, and, apparently, they might have only put out one album. Damage Overdose is some pretty badass death metal from the States. War Injun is Doom from Maryland. Looks like half Native and half white. Not really sure.

Via a recommendation from Kim Kelly, I've recently fallen for Anicon. Just the one EP at the moment, from what I can tell, and they're so new they don't even have a metal-archives entry. The EP will be released later today. Stream here: http://anicon.bandcamp.com/ For black metal fans - kind of WITTR-ish, a bit more up-tempo, great atmosphere.

QPZIL posted:It just doesn't look elegant to me. But, hey, that's just my opinion. But speaking of agalloch, holy poo poo their show was awesome. It was like more than a week ago now, but I just never bothered to post. First time I saw them live, first time they were ever in Denver, they put on an amazing show. They used to be kind of sloppy live, but I think the time they've spent touring and recording recently has really helped. And if anyone that goes to see them live leaves thinking Aesop can't keep time drumming, they are legitimately deaf. The difference between their early stuff and the stuff that was recorded with him on drums is ridiculous. I kind of hope he eventually decides to write new drum parts for the old songs they play live, I'm worried he'll get bored of doing the really basic drumming from the first three albums. Sadly, the show I went to, some dumbass starting tearing down the mics before the encore. And then starting ushering people out of the theater like 10 minutes later, when people were still lined up trying to get stuff signed. Basically what I'm saying is if anyone here is in the Denver area, gently caress the bluebird.

I'm trying to find a video I saw a few years back about an awesome speed or power metal guitar solo demonstration of some Spanish guitar player (either his name or the name of the band he used to play for began with an A). I believe it was entitled "Interno" for one of his two songs. Man that was an awesome exhibition.

Sup metal thread, been lurking or passing through here for years and years, never bothered posting much as I was not into finding new music as much then. Lately I've been on a revival of sorts after going to a bunch of shows again for the first time in years. Over the past few years I ahve gotten really into folk metal, and with the thread seeming to be on the topic for the last few weeks, figured now was a good time to get some recommendations. I really like Eluvietie, Ensiferum, Wintersun, and got into Arkona afer seeing them live with Turisas, amazing loving show. Korpiklanni is cool but never really got me hooked. Tyr also is pretty badass. I think I saw Elvenking mentioned in here a few pages back and am going to check them out. Are there any other quality bands similar to Ensiferum/Wintersun out there? Bonus points for good female lead singers, since I always enjoy that kind of voice in metal. On the Mayhemfest topic, I just saw Maiden on the 18th and Mayhem on the 22nd, so it was a good week. Slayer, Anthrax, and Motorhead are still awesome live, and I embarassed myself by still remembering all of the words to stuff by Slipknot made before 2004. Also I thought it would be a great idea to join in the Slayer pit on the lawn on a hill, almost hosed my knee up bad, alcohol is a hell of a drug. I blame booze for singing along to Slipknot as well.

Moonsorrow share's Ensiferum's Finnish mystic side of metal when Ensiferum is feeling less battely: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtALnsA9EW4 Myrkgrav, Lars is an awesome musician and can rock the best Norwegian sweaters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwPW2llbEqc Equilibrium, I had this on rotation with Ensiferum a lot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yom8nNqmxvQ Equilibrium is more into the metal elements, adding folk as touches or flourishes rather than the foundation. Not really what you are looking for, but I thought I'd throw out anyways: Otyg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QPUkex_5qM Singer of Vintersorg, Andreas Hedlund, feature male vocals playing guitar while female vocals provided by Cia Hedmark, who was also on fiddle. More on the folk side of things compared to other folk metal bands such as Equlibrium mentioned above. Stay Safe fucked around with this message at 18:25 on Jul 27, 2012 |

I think they've just made an album for the sake of it. The lyrics are terrible and the music is fairly uninspired. All the covers and an extended version of a song say to me "we lacked inspiration this album, here have some covers and an extended version of the only decent song on the album." Of course I have only listened to it once so I will give it a second chance.
