* Go vote for Nelly Cootalot, an indie adventure game with pirates and made by a silly guy with red beard. * Also, Roundabout, a rather promising goon game, got greenlit recently. It has hats in limos and campy FMVs. As it turns out, Steam gets flooded with new games that want in on the fun, but Gaben doesn't have the time to sort through all of them, so Gaben had an idea: I'll have my Developers pay a $100 fee to be at the mercy of the masses to vote for their projects. Generally, it works rather like Kickstarter in that heavy promotion work is required to succeed. Here, we laugh at the bad ones Warning this list hasn't been updated in ages. ABC Actual Sunlight - interactive story project. In spite of its RPG Maker assets, it's getting a good reception. Play it for free Against the Wall - a strangely addicting, chill puzzle-platformer in first person view. The world is a wall, climb it. Demo Antharion - CRPG, so old school it will rub that all over your face. Polarizing art, but some good ideas there A.N.N.E - a platformer/shmup hybrid with some RPG elements. Had a successful Kickstarter Ballpoint Universe - a shmup / platformer hybrid with the entirety of its assets made of assorted doodles. It actually seems to pull it off BasketBelle - a 2D basketball-based platformer with a unique aesthetic and a heartfelt narrative Battle Fortress Tortoise - "tower defense shooter on the back of a giant moving tortoise" with naval warfare thrown in for good measure Bean's Quest - considered one of the best platformers on iOS. Simple gimmick, but not an unfun one Beast Boxing Turbo - sort of Punch-Out with monsters. Demo Black Annex - office Syndicate. Corporate espionage, sabotage, and shooting all done in freaking QBASIC Black Mirror II and III - atmospheric point & click adventure from Germany, the land of classic adventure games Blockland - before Minecraft there was Lego, and Lego was good. Physics, vehicle handling, infinite possibilities! Demo Bollywood Wannabe - Bollywood Wannabe, Bollywood Wannabe~ demo BROFORCE - has made some development leaps since it last was up for voting. Demo Bunny Must Die! - ANIME Metroidvania that some swear is awesome with a good sense of humor. Also, ANIME! Demo Castle In The Darkness - another retro-styled Metroidvania? This one takes inspiration on Wonder Boy's fast, twitching platforming. Demo Cell HD: emergence - do you like abstract, experimental games that take time to learn? Maybe this is for you. Demo Chasm - a 2D ARPG with procedurally generated content, sort of Diablo meets Metroidvania. Alpha Chuck's Challenge 3D - addictive puzzler, sequel to the classic Chip's Challenge. Comes with a level editor for even longer longevity Constant C - puzzle platformer with some neat ideas, including time and gravity manipulation. Imagine a much, much better AYIM Cook, Serve, Delicious! - an intense restaurant simulator from the makers of Oil Blue and inspired by Ore no Ryouri. Demo C-Wars - an odd take on strategy games but it might just work? It's certainly original. Try the demo DEF Darkwood - a survival horror with a top-down perspective and some elements from RPGs and roguelikes. In development Dawnstar - space sim / action-RPG hybrid with campaign, co-op, and multiplayer PVP options Delver's Drop - described as Zelda meets roguelikes with physics. Had a successful Kickstarter Desolate Hope - lead a coffee pot across a crazy sci-fi setting in this odd title with three distinct gameplay types and good writing Dominions 3 - the TBS where "Cthulhu vs Spanish Inquisition vs Zombie Jesus vs Chimpanzees" is a thing. Demo Door Kickers - strategy game where you control a SWAT team who really loving hate doors. Demo Driftmoon - whimsical indie RPG. Been getting good press since release. Demo DROD - the "thinking man's dungeon crawl", each room a puzzle, each move an attempt at slaying the right beast. Demo Dungeon Dashers - Dredmor's little cousin. A fast paced dungeon crawler with multiplayer and chiptune soundtrack Dungeonmans - goon-made roguelike with some interesting ideas like a hero academy or a campaign changing based on who killed your hero Elder Sign: Omens - a cheap, digital version of the popular board game with its expansion, but (sadly) no multiplayer Enamel - janky Polish 2D action-RPG with an obvious inspiration on the classic Abuse Escape Goat - clever puzzle platformer that featured in one of the Indie Royales. Demo The Five Cores - remember the sequel to Myst, Riven? This is trying to be that but in full 3D. Demo Flightless - platformer with a twist: no jumping. Use a magic ladder to get around, kill enemies, and solve puzzles. Demo Flowstorm - brilliant skill-based 2D racer where you move a fragile rocket through a level taking care not to break it Fractured Soul - a Mega Man-styled title using a split dimension gimmick Freedom Planet - like a Sonic hack turned into an actual game and a fun one, too. Demo GHI Gas Guzzlers - Croatian-made combat racing simulation, similar to Flatout, but with extra grinding. Good production values. Demo Geared - an iOS port of the gear-based puzzle game. Goon-made, though you wouldn't know otherwise Gimbal - space combat not unlike SPAZ, Gimbal's team-based multiplayer with buildable ships is rather interesting. Demo Gnoblins - what do you get when you mix a roguelike, Dungeon Keeper, and a 3D perspective? Possibly this. In development. Public pre-alpha GoD Factory - team-based, dogfighting space combat, 4v4 Gomo - a charming adventure game from Russia Gray Matter - bad animations, low budget voice acting, Jane Jensen, highly rated in Germany... you already know if you want this Haunted - Tim Schafer was right: the adventure genre ended up in Germany. A cartoonish, humoristic Dickens-like story. Demo Heaven Variant - a polished clone of classic shmup Einhander with a cool soundtrack Hogee and the Magic Fire - a rather pretty puzzle platformer. Has potential. Try the demo Humans Must Answer - shmup inspired by Jets'n'Guns and created by a duo who previously worked on STALKER. Interesting mechanics Ichi - puzzle game where you rotate shapes to bounce balls at different angles to pass through objects and avoid obstacles Immortal Defense - a great tower defense game, the kind recommended in the same breath as Defense Grid. Demo Infinity Wars - TCG with animated cards and some interesting ideas like Merged Deck mode. F2P JKL Jacob Jones and the Bigfoot Mystery - a charming 3D take on Professor Layton (or Puzzle Agent) Jets'n'Guns - there are jets and guns on this cult classic, euro shmup. Machinae Supremacy on the soundtrack. Demo Knock-Knock - from the demented makers of Pathologic, Void, and Cargo, comes a new experiment. Trust your thoughts, believe your notions Knytt Underground - from the creator of NightSky, Saira, and Knytt Stories. A story-driven exploration platformer. Demo Legend of the Knightwasher - Come hither, thou proud washing machine, I pray thee come hither to me. Did you euer know a comely king? Little Racers STREET - fun top down racing game Long Live The Queen - from the makers of Magical Diary, another title for young girls, this time a queen simulator akin the Princess Maker series. Demo MNO Marvin's Mittens - a chill platformer for the young ones with a focus on exploration and item collecting. Looks adorable in motion MechKnight Chronicles - some dudes want to make a modern Guardian Heroes and the people at PAX East certainly think they can Megabyte Punch - it's like Smash Bros if it was indie and you could build your own character. Demo Mobiloid - featured recently in IndieGameStand. Build bots, explore the world. Demo Monster Shooter - I guess it's like if Bunch of Heroes was good and had tentacles Mount Your Friends - hailing from XBLIG, it's sort of like QWOP where you control the members of an athlete in order to climb a pile of dicks Nekro - "a dark, twisted action game about summoning minions in the vein of Dungeon Keeper and Myth". NEO Scavenger - turn-based, isometric survival RPG with no hand holding. Developed by a former Bioware guy. Demo Oil Blue - an interesting mix between strategy and arcade simulation. Has been previously rejected from Steam. Demo Oniken - who wants to play a NES game on 2012? IT'S YOU. Kickass recreation of a side-scroller not unlike Shinobi or Strider. Demo Oozi - ignore the lovely plastered grin on the character, because this is a solid platformer. Demo Operation Smash - describing itself as "a real Metroidvania", you use a hammer to get around as if you were comic book Thor Out There Somewhere - a fast paced puzzle-platformer centered on a teleporting mechanic. Demo PQR Parallax - think outside the box in this monochrome, first-person puzzle game with overlapping spatial dimensions Paranormal - a (sort of) procedurally generated horror game created by a ginger. Camera view and doesn't last long, but it's highly replayable Pitiri 1977 - jump n run with hand painted graphics and a physics engine. Solve puzzles with your powers and save your little brother. Demo Poker Smash - popular XBLA match three game with Poker moves Probability 0 - Spelunky on steroids for small gaming sessions. Rough but addictive. Demo Pulse - probably the most cutesy horror game ever made. Prototype Pushcat - it's the disturbing, emotional tale of a cat who pushes things to collect gems to pay the rent. Demo Qasir al-Wasat - a rather interesting 2D stealth game in an Arabian setting. Stay invisible, investigate, don't be caught. Demo Race the Sun - like Super Hexagon, if Super Hexagon was a pseudo endless racer with abstract shapes. Supports track creation. Alpha build Rawbots - robot building title with full customization including programming of specific parts. Allows for various gaming genres to mash up Ray's The Dead - it's sort of Stubbs the Zombie meets Pikmin with cutesy Plants vs Zombies art Real Texas, The - some Minecraft graphics crazy Ultima IV meets Zelda mashup. Quirky, easy-going, and certainly unique Recruits - a modern take on Cannon Fodder. Visually, it doesn't pack a punch but it's certainly better than the competition Rex Rocket - a stylish retro-styled platformer Richard & Alice - a well reviewed, story-focused adventure game with unfortunate programmer art Ring Runner - a procedural generated space shooter/RPG hybrid with co-op. Reminds some people of Dreamcast's Armada. Demo Risk of Rain - an action-platformer that is basically Survival Mode: The Game Rollers of the Realm - "the pinball puzzle role-playing game". Looks fun Running With Rifles - imagine a more complex multiplayer Cannon Fodder with tons of squads running in a map simultaneously. Demo S Salvation Prophecy - modern Space Rangers. Ambitious but rough blend of space combat, 3rd person shooter, and strategy. Demo Shantae: Risky's Revenge - the Nintendo DS platformer sensation of 2010, now on Steam Shaun the Sheep - rather like a cute Lost Vikings-styled game; three sheeps each with their own ability Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe - a spiritual successor to classic Shufflepuck Café. Popular on Android, now being expanded for its PC release Signal Ops - command a squad of six agents in this multiple-perspective tactical espionage thingy. Crude art style that some are digging Signs of Life - 2D survival sandbox platforming, which is to say, kind of like Terraria or Starbound Silent Storm - a 2004 pseudo-sequel to Jagged Alliance 2, already available on GOG. 'Tis a good game Slingshot Racing - an iOS port of a racing game based on a slingshot mechanic. Fun, but could probably do with more depth. Demo Spud's Quest - an homage to the ancient Dizzy with modern trappings. Fresh from Kickstarter and looking great. Demo Steam Marines - squad based roguelike in no way related to 40k Space Marines and Space Hulk, we swear. Alpha Super Amazing Wagon Adventure - a coffee break game. Shoot things, die of dysentery in this randomly sequenced, unforgiving game. Demo T Taijou - a clever mashup of platformer and bullet hell shmup. Are you ready to rage quit? Here, have a demo Tales of Maj'Eyal - or ToME 4, a popular roguelike that also happens to be open source (eh?). Has a complex talent system but a friendly UI Talisman Digital Edition - based on the board game. With a single player campaign and standard multiplayer. Demo T.E.C. 3001 - I am Batman. Wait, no, I am... Sonic? Bit Trip Runner 3D? Whatever this is, it's considered one of the best XBLIG titles The Cat Lady - half short movie, half adventure game, this horror themed experience has been getting good reviews. Demo The Last Phoenix - bring life to a dead world in this peculiar aerial combat game. Demo Toki Remake - remake of the old arcade game Toki with gorgeous new sprites TowerClimb - a rather interesting but kinda ugly roguelike platformer. If challenging games are your thing this is for you Tower of the Gorillion - does Oniken have too much color for you? Welcome to team-based puzzle platforming on the Game Boy. Demo TRIP - artsy "game" and exactly what says on the tin. It's a tripping experience UVW Underrail - inspired by Fallout and other classics, this is a turn-based isometric CRPG with replayability in mind. Demo Vampires! - a modern take on Lemmings with vampires and rotating panels. It's better than what it sounds like. Demo Virtual Pool 4 - scared of a real table? Let this realistic pooling simulation turn you into a pro. Maybe. Demo Warsow - cel shaded, bunny-hopping, competitive arena shooter from the 00's. Get your eSports on! Try it Wooden Sen'SeY - action platformer recently featured on that Groupees bundle. Looks all right. Demo Wrack - the 90's are back, baby! Cartoonish aesthetics, Duke Nukem gameplay, hordes of enemies, some platforming, and lots of explosions Wyv and Keep - a methodical, well thought out team-based puzzle-platformer with local and online co-op (and single player). Demo XYZ, 0-9 Zafehouse: Diaries - a procedural generated, narrative-based survival horror. Lead a bunch of NPCs to their salvation or horrible deaths. Demo Zigfrak - ARPG without swords! Fly about in a space ship blowing up stuff and looting everything. Featuring missions and crafting. Demo 1953 - KGB Unleashed - stuck in a Russian bunker during Cold War, can you escape without losing your sanity? Myst meets Metro 2033 99 Spirits - an RPG / Puzzle hybrid with monster collecting thrown in for good measure. Demo The list above is here to help you figure out what is what and pick whichever game you fancy the most to vote individually, but Greenlight also offers a tool called "Collections". A vote on a Collection will apply it to all games within. Imagine all the time you are saving! Ours is available here. Afterfall InSanity EE - revised edition of Poland's take on post-apocalyptic horror. Great atmosphere, good production values, meh combat AirBuccaneers - standalone remake of the old UT2004 multiplayer mod. Air pirates, dirigibles, raiding, huge cannons, the works Akaneiro: Demon Hunters - American McGee's take on Diablo, combining Japanese folklore with the story of Red Riding Hood. F2P Anodyne - totally not a pretentious Zelda-clone where you navigate your own mind. Good post-game stuff, I hear. Demo Assetto Corsa - Italian, realistic driving sim with licensed cars. Do you like Italian cars? Let me tell you about Italian cars! Demo Blackspace - promising action-RTS hybrid with a focus on defense. Physics, customization, geological strategy, and destructible everything Bleed - rather fast Contra-like game that, in spite of visuals, looks great in motion. If you like shooting things, this is the game for you. Demo Cognition - point & click adventure with decent production values. The Silver Lining, a King Quest's fan game, was their previous work. Demo Contrast - rather atmospheric game on which you use shadows as platforms and means to solve puzzles Distance - exploration arcade racing with a Tron aesthetic and multiplayer. Sequel to Nitronic Rush DLC Quest - straight from the X360, you buy power-up's as satirical DLC. Short and cheap DreadOut - Indonesia takes a go at making Fatal Frame. In development. Now on Indiegogo. Demo Eador - add two parts HOMM, one part Civ. Cook with Russian resolution, stirring frequently until some jankiness shows. Serve hot Ether One - sort of a Myst-like psychological thriller with cel-shaded graphics that looks really neat Evoland - play through the history of the JRPG genre, from the 8-bit to the Saturn/PSX era Fly'n - a beautiful and clever puzzle platformer made in France *sips wine* Frozen Endzone - a tactical American football game from the developers of Frozen Synapse Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams - a sequel to the ancient Amiga platformer. Got funded on Kickstarter and their playable demo is neat Gnomoria - showed up after the lukewarm reception of Towns and promises to be an accessible Dwarf Fortress. Demo Hammerwatch - Gauntlet with online multiplayer and mod support. Demo Incredipede - create Lovecraftian abominations to solve puzzles. One of the oddest titles in this list and a brilliant example of indie creativity Inquisitor - Diablo meets Darklands meets Baldur's Gate made in Czech Republic. Already available on GOG Interstellar Marines - Shark-men! F1 Pilots! Lots of shooting! Co-op! Space! Ambition and naivety! It has everything! Demo Kinetic Void - something about goons on spaceships and Kinect(?). Never heard of it LA-MULANA - this former Wiiware exclusive game has been trying to get on Steam for a while. Check it out Legend of Dungeon - part TMNT Arcade, part roguelike, this coop beat'em'up / dungeon-crawler hybrid is making the rounds Legends of Dawn - Russian 3D open-world RPG. Looks rather well done and interesting. Expect (and love) eventual jankyness, though Legends of Eisenwald - fresh from Kickstarter, a RPG/strategy hybrid not unlike Disciples. Do you love hexes? MaK - a sandbox game with "Mario-Galaxy-esque gravity flipping and Rube-Goldberg-level contraption-building". Promising, at least McPixel - a humoristic game in which you have 15 seconds to disable a bomb in various situations. Watch the Giant Bomb video Miner Wars 2081 - a modern Descent with online play and fully destructible environments. Demo NEOTOKYO - cyber punk meets Counter Strike with a bit of Ghost in the Shell. A Source mod in production since 2004, looks fun Octodad - a sequel to the very bizarre game where an octupus wants to be a family guy. Watch the trailer Papers, Please - can you balance being a good person in a horrible world? Demo Pinball Arcade - keeping history alive with thorough reproductions of some of the best pinball tables ever made Primordia - looks like another quality adventure game from Wadjet Eye, this one inspired by Beneath a Steel Sky. Demo Rogue Legacy - platforming roguelike-lite with a cute "your descendants will avenge you" mechanic Routine - imagine Amnesia IN SPACE. This is what Dead Space should have been Sang-Froid - not unlike Orcs Must Die, but with a bigger focus on the traps and setup Secrets of Grindea - an action-RPG inspired by SNES classic Secret of Mana. Features fast combat, decent animations, and online co-op Stardew Valley - cows, chickens, farming, mining, dating... it's Harvest Moon for the PC! The Stanley Parable: HD Remix - a remake of the critically aclaimed mod, an experiment in video game storytelling and totally worth your time Stonehearth - guide your settlers to build and grow a city in this management sim with co-op Super Motherload - digging arcade experience. Sequel to the original Motherload now focused on couch co-op up to four players. The Forest - scavenging, slow-paced survival horror game. In early development Towns - a settlement management sim which got alpha funded through Indie Royale. Tries to be a simpler Dwarf Fortress. Demo Unepic - cool Metroidvania with so-so graphics. Also featured on Indie Royale. Demo Waking Mars - explore gigantic 2D caves on a jetpack and mess with an alien ecosystem for amusing effects. Rather nifty War Thunder - WW2-themed MMO combat game, featuring neat air combat and (in the future) land and sea warfaring. F2P Zomboid, Project - sandboxy isometric Fallout-style survival horror with Workshop support for mods. Deal with hunger, depression, and illness
Before the $100 fee came up, we had an entire week of everyone and their dog submitting crap non-stop. Those who ever wanted to make a game, used RPG Maker, or thought themselves as comedians smeared their poo poo all over Greenlight. It wasn't pretty, but the goons policed the place, got the bad stuff removed, and found the good projects. Before that, there were a million MSPaint abominations, Slenderman games, and Minecraft knock-offs; a few still remain. But with the fee in place will there ever be new terrible projects to point and laugh at? Of course! Valve released the Concepts section and, Dunning-Kruger effect in action, it's full of hilarity. Hi, and thanks for joining us here! There's some restrictions on what you can do, though -- for instance no dedicated thread for your game if it's started by yourself, no links to where we can buy it, and no vote requests (we can decide on that on our own). Just some common sense. Aside that, we love to hear from you! Please share your experiences, please answer questions about your project. Like you, there are many developers on SA and we welcome them with open arms, but nobody likes a shill. Saoshyant fucked around with this message at 19:25 on Jul 19, 2014 |

Here are some games you should rate up: Slingshot Racing - Originally a super fun iOS game, the basic slingshot mechanic is so amazingly satisfying that I'd love to buy it again on PC. McPixel - A cross between WarioWare and a point-and-click adventure game. Just watch the Giant Bomb Quick Look of it. Paper Monsters - Absolutely beautiful-looking platformer by the creators of Cordy, one of the most polished games on iOS/Android.

Greenlight supports creating whole game collections to vote on. I created a collection based on suggestions from the Steam thread and Steam Goons IRC channel. It's here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=92924819 If you want to add any good games let me know. Vote on it to catch Valve's attention! I'd like to keep it "best of the best" kind of thing.

I've got a small personal favourites list of ones that I do hope get upvoted more. I'll be adding to it more later. I'm especially happy to see Bleed in there. The art is amateurish, but don't let that put you off. Watch the gameplay video. I really dig how the action looks - there's a certain something there that just appeals, but it's hard to define. Dodoman posted:Steam () Marines looks pretty good. It's a sci-fi roguelike. Even better - it looks like a roguelike spliced with Space Hulk. Always good to have Space Hulk inspirations. It'd be great if they could embed videos on the page. A trailer would help immensely to sell their idea to the masses. Or to throw endless memes at the masses. What I'm really trying to say is upvote Octodad 2. Still if what Greenlight offers is even a quarter as hilarious as the poo poo on Kickstarter at this moment, then this thread will have been completely worth it.

The DROD games are some of the best puzzle games ever made (the original has to be over a decade old), but they've never gotten a huge audience. I'd absolutely love to see them on Steam, though they'd probably need to make their pricing system make more sense.

I threw together a quick Tumblr to commemorate Greenlight stuff that's bad. While I was looking for stuff for it, I found a text adventure that's at least 25% typos. But it's nothing compared to the utter majesty of the (sadly deleted in shame?) GRAMMA VOON BOOM!

I'm still waiting for a few big indie games like Unepic and La Mulana to show up. But speaking of Unepic: http://www.unepicgame.com/phpBB3_en/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=952 The game creator is basically going to take a few months to create a multiplayer mode before submitting it.

I spent a long time playing Dino Run a few years back, and Project Giana has a demo here you can check out for free (and a Kickstarter that's due to end soon!). They're both games I'd like to get a good word in for. Phew that was a lot of links for one line Also, someone care to explain to me what AirBuccaneers is? It's on Palpek's list, I've never heard of it before, spill the beans guys. edit: Zeether posted:It was a mod for one of the UT games that turned into its own game. The Real Texas is up on Greenlight now. Well-reviewed indie action RPG. Part Earthbound, part Ultima and with a dash of Kafka. Low-fi graphics but ridiculously charming. There was a fairly big thread about it a while back, and folks really seemed to like it. This is the kinda thing that needs a foot up.

I was voting (up or down) on everything to come along, and after 120 votes I'm cut off. I know I'm not the only one. Can anyone confirm that there is a hard number there, or is it just votes/time, or what? The bummer thing is that you can't even see the list of the new games to come up. I'd accept not being able to vote, but not seeing the games is no fun. I guess I can log out, but then the 120 games I already voted are back in the mix.

It's cool to see that Greenlight has been live for a matter of hours and is already completely filled with petulant, whiny children.

The Real Texas is a game I thought was both really good and probably wouldn't make it on Greenlight because the community wouldn't see past the oddball graphics. I hope I'm proven wrong.

Seduce Me Oh, this is going to be an interesting journey. Thank you, Steam. I don't think I'm using Greenlight as it was intended. I'm just looking for the worst looking entries to see if they actually are, indeed, just that terrible. Games that look "good" aren't very interesting. edit: Beaten! x2 XOIC of Radishes fucked around with this message at 20:19 on Aug 30, 2012 |

LumberingTroll posted:Badland Studio, the all Goon development team has posted Kinetic Void to Steam Greenlight Oh god, actual effort. Voting hard. This kind of work easily out does 90% of what's on offer. I really want to support independent developers, it makes it a lot easier when the work is good like this is.
