Has anyone heard of Farleon? He has some pretty awesome disco tracks that I think a lot of people would enjoy. Some of his other stuff is a little too complextro for me but is still well-produced. The two tracks below are my current favorites. Farleon - Millenium http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wevh2d7nTUY Farleon - Live Your Life http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ET70ZqOAFW0

a milk crime posted:I'd just start listening to techno, esp Sandwell District members This is a great post. Check out anything Blawan has been releasing in the past few months. Rrose just did a pretty awesome RA podcast. Listen to Tiga's latest BBC6 MIX, it has a very good showcase of the direction underground techno is taking right now. http://soundcloud.com/mynameistiga/my-name-is-tiga-bbc-6-music Are you familiar with UK Bass labels and producers? A lot of them are releasing some wicked techno. Check out Jacques Greene's EP on Martyn's 3024 label. Or Untold's 3 part EP on Hemlock, Joy O and Joy Orbison's EPs on Sunklowun, and Turbo's New Jack Techno compilation. Lots of crossover with house music too, like Carl Craig's recent sets or Seth Troxler's VisionQuest. Some of the older labels have been releasing more experimental techno as well. I mentioned Turbo's new compilation already. Osgut Ton, the label from Berghain, one of the most influencial techno clubs in the world, just released a full length album by one of their residents, Shed. It's honestly stunning. In my opinion techno is the most forward thinking electronic music. Most of the experimental producers always find themselves coming back to it, bringing back the influences they acquired exploring new genres and sounds. With that being said, it's difficult to define and even harder to point a newbie in a specific direction because fundamentally its the experimental genre. You just have to dig and discover for yourself. There are so many flavours and sounds. Although you can say that with pretty much all electronic music, I feel that techno ultimately influences everything. The wikipedia techno article covers a lot of ground, and is worth a read. Also, essential mixes are a great resource. You can listen to techno through the ages, or explore the modern pioneer's definitions. For example, listen to Dubfire's EM from 2007, then his newest one from this year. Both are incredible, but are fairly different from each other. I guess I should also mention that a large part of techno is built for practical use. The ability to isolate sounds from individual tracks and combine them together is very different from say, house music, where the individual track shines. That is not to say you can't enjoy techno tracks on their own, but the skill of a DJ blending and manipulating ideas from several artists is what hooks me. It's like an arrangement of sound, a conduction, a symphony if you will. Firaga fucked around with this message at 06:01 on Aug 30, 2012 |

I'm not sure what everyone was expecting of Madeon considering his pop culture mashup was basically some of the cheesiest/corniest tunage around. Anyway for content here we have Reso's remix of Koan Sound's '80s Fitness'. It's on some body-popper poo poo until it kicks in and then oh snap, off-kilter beat patterns ahoy! I'd love to see someone dance to this. http://soundcloud.com/owslaofficial/koan-sound-80s-fitness-reso Olympic Mathlete fucked around with this message at 21:31 on Aug 31, 2012 |

Madeon's new track is definitely not my favorite of is but I mean he said it was a track that was really close to him and meant a lot. I don't think he ever intended this to be a big club banger and if you are going in with that mindset, you probably will not like the track. It's very uplifting and as always the production quality is fantastic. In other words, I really recommend listening to this track I posted earlier. No one seemed to have any comments but I know those disco fans out here would love it. It reminds me of Mord Fustang if he did something super disco.
