Went flying with some barnstormers awhile back. I was in a Travel Air 6000 flying from FAR to K74 for Bob Odegaard's annual fly-in.

I have more of the ATO since that was the only subject on the way down to Kindred, but the environmental limitations (lighting, background, flight length) make "all" the shots port front quarter. We had a pretty good headwind going south, which meant lots of time with the ATO. The tailwind on the way back shortened shooting time on the Stinson and Fairchild.

Thanks for another excellent installment Nebakenezzer. Can't wait for the last episode. I'm not so sure the Germans can bounce back from this.

At least this time only one crew was horribly killed. Sorry for the delay in writing this one. Events in real life demanded attention, and my laptop's AC adapter was out for two weeks. I also managed to finish another bit of AI I've been working on for the past few months. Sadly, I can deliver a airship sized spergpost about this, too... Just give me a minute, I have pictures... e: after several months and something like 120-150 man hours - My 1/72 Fw-200 Condor is complete. A late model C-8, With HS-293 anti-ship missile action! A power turret emplacement with a hilarious "machine gun under glass" feature. HF cable is painted fishing line, radio hoop is fine gauge steel wire bent to replace the part I lost. I kept the top panels removable, so you could see inside. Fw-200s had waist machine guns like a B-17. Photo-etch parts doubled the build time but offered superb detail. The fwd power turret is a rapid fire 20mm cannon the Nazis used in all their fighters. Managed to do a bit of nice weathering on the engines. Given that they used aircooled rotary engines, I probably didn't weather enough oil stains. It took a lot of time and masking tape to do the splinter camo...I think it will be awhile before I build something WW2 and German again. Asymmetrical gondola probably not a feature to look for on Boeing airliners anytime soon BRAWWWWWWWWWWVVVVOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMM Nebakenezzer fucked around with this message at 00:03 on Sep 22, 2012 |

It does look bigger and is indeed a bit bigger, but not that much and in fact surprisingly comparable other than wing area which is pretty significant (2x) although the fusalage certainly looks thicker too. Hey, does anyone know of a windows app that can automatically resize a bunch of jpegs in a given directory in one shot? Edit: Nice model building Nebakenezzer. I've got tons of plastic under the stairs which I need to crack into. Probably when I retire in a few decades. Pretty much 1:48 everything. Fighters, bombers, space shuttle stack, you name it.

No pictures, but I saw something odd today. A pair of grey F-4's flying over my house. I live about 30 miles from Scott AFB in southern Illinois. One of my airplane friends reckons they were Turkish F-4's coming back from Green Flag. Anybody know anything? Slo-Tek fucked around with this message at 17:49 on Sep 24, 2012 |

If they had no orange highlights, that's a pretty good guess. They'd be hopping from base to base to refuel. Nellis to Scott is right about their max ferry range if they're carrying tanks. If they had orange, they're American QF-4s, probably en route to Tyndall. I'm not sure if they're still converting F-4s or not, since the QF-16 program is getting on its feet.

What I heard from the AMARG people is that the remainder of the F-4s that are not needed as spares for friendly air forces are getting shredded as the QF-4 program is done. This would also explain the distinct lack of F-4s I saw around the airfield. I suppose if anyone wants an F-4 for their local air museum, they have to act fast.

Mitt Romney doesn't know much about : airplanes. “I appreciate the fact that she is on the ground, safe and sound. And I don’t think she knows just how worried some of us were,” Romney said. “When you have a fire in an aircraft, there’s no place to go, exactly, there’s no — and you can’t find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don’t open. I don’t know why they don’t do that. It’s a real problem. So it’s very dangerous. And she was choking and rubbing her eyes. Fortunately, there was enough oxygen for the pilot and copilot to make a safe landing in Denver. But she’s safe and sound.”

Here is something a little different. My mom flew a Wright 1902 Glider today. About an 8 second flight. Apparently towed to speed by 3 people running with ropes then released. I'd be interested in knowing how it would act if you towed it behind a four wheeler or something.
