At least not without restarting the entire game, which frankly I'm probably about due for anyway.

I haven't played Nintendo or many videogames in ages, so I'm a bit confused by the eShop retail games. It looks like for new retail games, like New Super Mario Bros Wii U, Assassin's Creed III, etc, I can either buy the game at a store or download the full game through eShop. If I buy a retail copy from a store and play it, is there a way my Wii will let me play it without a disc? Do the downloaded games run any better? as I'm assuming they'll play off my Wii's solid state, flash memory, is that right? Given that the Wii has a rather small amount of storage because it is flash memory (with my deluxe at only 32 gb), I'm assuming I can delete and redownloaded purchased games whenever I'd want if I run out of space, right? It looks like the online store and buying in store is the same price, is there any benefit to buying a disc copy from a store or downloading through the eShop? As I purchased a Wii U Deluxe, it would seem that I should really buy from the eShop, as that 10% promotion thing seems pretty sweet, why should I bother to buy from retailers?

The eShop has a couple of benefits. One, its the only way to play a game without having to swap the disc in. Two, every eShop purchase gets Club Nintendo points, where only some retail games get those points, and if you have a premium WiiU then every purchase also gets ten percent points back (but you should note you'd probably get more cash back trading a retail game in anywhere). Retailers you are probably going to get better prices, plus trade in value. You can expand your storage by the way with any retail usb 2.0 hard drive. If it is usb powered you'll need a y splitter cable to plug it into two usb ports, Nintendo recommend you have one that plugs into a wall. greatn fucked around with this message at 19:46 on Dec 14, 2012 |

Personally, I'll take the 10% off, slightly faster loading, silent disc drive, and lower environmental impact/less space taken up on my shelf.

I use that level (and any from the second half of DKCR) as a counterpoint to the people who still say "Nintendo only makes games for babies." And yeah, SMG2 has a staggering amount of post-game content. It's like one of those bullshit stories That One Kid told you about Mario 64. "Oh yeah, if you beat the game, there's a whole new world with more levels. Then you have to get 120 brand-new stars, fight all the bosses from the first game, and beat the hardest level in the game without getting hurt. What? Yeah huh, dude, my uncle totally works for Nintendo."

I must have spent around two hours beating that last Galaxy 2 level, but I eventually did conquer it. I picked up the console today since I keep hearing good things about NSMBU and Nintendoland, and am wondering something about the Miiverse. After setting up my profile, I got a message from admins saying that something unspecified in it was inappropriate, and they had restricted some displays of my profile. The only thing I thought it could be was that I listed my Twitter address in my profile info, so I deleted that and sent the default "I've edited my profile" response to them. Do they let you know when/if the restriction is lifted?

I have a gamepad charging issue. Whether the remaining charge on the gamepad battery is high or low, sometimes it will simply not charge when either plugged in or set on the charging stand. If I move the charging cables to another outlet, however, it will work. However, I can only charge the unit from this new outlet a few times, and then it will cease to charge, making me need to move back to the other outlet. Devices plugged into these outlets continue to function; it's just an issue with the gamepad/gamepad charging equipment. Has anyone run into this issue? If it is a hardware malfunction, do you think I will need to send the gamepad back, or the charging equipment?

NSMBU has a bunch of extra challenges and alternate modes, which are much more substantial.

I hope this isn't a dumb question, but is there any chance Nintendo can fix the Wii U so that it won't brick itself if a software update doesn't go 100% smoothly? I know this isn't a problem with the 360 or PS3, so what are the chances Nintendo can address it? I don't have the most reliable internet connection, so while I'm interested in the Wii U, I don't like the idea of spending $300 on a console that will force me to walk on eggshells every time it updates.

That's pretty much an issue with any kind of firmware update, if the wrong thing happens at the wrong time. Some enthusiast PC motherboards actually keep a backup copy of everything needed to boot, just in case an update goes badly, but the Wii U certainly wouldn't have that.

Important to note that it downloads the full update before installing so it isn't like your internet going out will cause some sort of bricking.

If the system is powered off (or whatever) while it is downloading it will just resume later from where it left off. You can even download it in the background while using the U. However, powering the system off during and installation would be problematic but installations are very short. Edit: ^

The Golden Axe stage is pretty much the best thing in any racing game. It plays like a DKR track (but better), looks like a heavy metal album cover, and sounds like heroism.

All the little fanwank things in this game are just great. The first stage having a new version of Toot Toot Sonic Warrior, a sticker called Sega Swirled, Tails switching the Tornado for his old Sonic Drift car, Ristar waving the flag, the fact that theres a mod called the Genesis/Megadrive mod that shoves everything into speed, almost like BLAST PROCESSING Edit: I havent unlocked it yet, but apparently theres a character thats a VMU and drives the Hornet, a Dreamcast controller, and an F14.

I really hope they get around to actually releasing some DLC down the road. I know they had that online fan polling to see which characters folks would be most interested in getting as DLC, and I guess Sumo Digital is just waiting for the OK from Sega proper. The game's Rainbow Road analogue has the most appropriate music.

Isnt there a way to play Sonic on the pad in singleplayer? I really wanna take this to bed but cant figure out how. Dont tell me it only allows pad play in multiplayer... Edit: Oh god I never even considered Bayonetta, but now I cant live without her. Also Kazuma and Ryo could totally share a car like Jacky and Akira. Ryo can drive the forklift while Kazuma picks up and smashes all the cars as they pass!
