Does anybody know if a monitor stand exists for this kind of setup:

Alternatively, I've already got a dual monitor stand, but I can't seem to find any stands that would allow a 27" monitor to peek out above two 24" monitors in portrait.

I can't think of a single stand out of the box with that configuration, but almost all of the stands posted here simply use a pole and clamp setup, and if you look around you should be able to find a configuration of components to set that up easily. Even the fancier ergotron ones are just a pull and a arm on a clamp, they just have a nicer finish and adjustment mechanics. You need a tall enough pole, one meant for 4 monitors in a grid, and to either replace the top arms with a single fixed mount, or a single arm. You could probably just take the extra arm off the quad mount too. You can normally find the various arms and clamps sold separately.

edit: http://www.amazon.com/Monitor-Stand-clamp-holds-monitors/dp/B001HHNRFK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1359218592&sr=8-1&keywords=4+monitor+mount (basically that but either use a single mount on the top ordered separately or just use the double with a single monitor.

The ergonmics of a setup like that would make any doctor cry. Your goal when setting up something for minimum neck/eye strain is to get the top bezel of your monitor at just below eye level. I've actually got a 24" mounted about my 30" and it just feels uncomfortable to look up at that thing for any extended amount of time.

It's an old case, maybe 10 years in a really bad/red dust area. I promise it is actually not that bad - as it is now the weekend and after I wake up from singing along to Sabaton I shall clean - didn't ever notice it was that bad (I'm in a wheelchair due various things I might get into, but only saw it when I took the D-bag cabling photo.

Actually I should roll around and see what I can see!

EDIT: Yes I'm a wheelie-boy but there is no excuse. I should look over there sometimes- and just to piss the super clean guys: I smoke in that room. Get over it.

Righteo - like I care.

Anyway to divert - am I really stuck with this poo poo? http://www.endodirect.com.au/products/desks-workstations-screens/2000-x-900-sit-n-stand-desk

My disability is due to 'occupational hazards' but I'm (shock horror) an electro-mech engineer by trade so I sure I can get something like this going. The desk in my OP is something I've owned for over 20 years and arms on the chair end up bumping into the draws I never use (found all my X-Men and NBA cards in them).

Why? I find having eye level half-way up the screen or a bit above half works well.

Humphreys, I use a Geekdesk, which is a motorized desk similar to the one you linked. I love it - Big desk space without drawers/thickness to obstruct my knees, and lets me quickly transition from sitting to standing. Given that you're in a wheelchair, why do you want a motorized desk? I may be able to answer questions, but don't know what you're going for.

There have been plenty of messy setups posted here and in the GBS thread; not sure why you're being jumped on.

I want one just for the sake of it, plus I tend to watch movies in bed and lowering/raising to right height for viewing would be nice. I'm probably being jumped on because I'm new and my drunken posts last night seem to bait people.

Ergonomics is why. The goal is to put the least amount of strain on your body and your neck/eyes do not do well staring with an upwards angle for long periods of time. Everybody should spend the 5 minutes necessary to reposition their poo poo to match something like this, your back/neck/arms/wrists will thank you for it.

How heavy is your monitor setup? I have glass desk like that and I want to do the same but I'm afraid of breaking the table. Does that monitor stand clamp onto the glass completely, or are you padding the grip space with a piece of wood?

"Nooooooooo!?"

Those of you with a setup like this, how comfortable is it to have the center of focus being between the monitors? I have tried it, but couldn't never get used to it. I need to have one monitor that is the "primary" monitor and to have it straight ahead. My optimal setup is to have a ~24" in the middle running 1900x1200, with one 4:3 19" on each side running 1600x1200.

The trick is to set the way you sit and point your head mostly to one of them. Also put the keyboard (as has the the benisntfunny guy done) and mouse as if one of monitors was the only one. It doesn't really matter where the stick holding the drat things is.

The monitors are LED so they're super light. I wouldn't worry about putting something a little heavier on the tempered glass though. The stand is a clamp - I have it just go straight into the desk but you could do a piece of wood to spread the weight further along the area.

May give it a shot again, but I actually used to have the monitors lower, relative to keyboard/mouse height. Looking down strains the neck as well as looking up, so looking down at the screens was uncomfortable; it's why I bought the monitor stands. I have a hard time using laptops comfortably for this reason too; I have to either look down quite a bit, or have the keyboard too high.

I use a sitting/standing Steelcase electric motorized desk at work and it owns bones. I wish they weren't many thousands of dollars, so I could buy one for home use :saddowns:
Although, I guess there are $950 versions that adjust with a little hand thingy instead of an electric motor (similar to previously linked geekdesk)

And dude with the nasty desk/setup, you will have to do some serious cable management if you ever want to do an adjustable sitting/standing desk.
