They changed their names a few times and roughly a hundred years later they ended up having switched. The Republican party we know today is directly descended from what was called the Democratic party in the late 1800's, and vice versa. I think it is a lot simpler than that and most of the current issues go back to the "Southern Strategy" which was plainly racist as gently caress and only about 4 decades ago.

Yeah. Until the Southern Strategy, both sides had their share of liberals and conservatives. Dem liberals being more the labor rights crowd with GOP libs being more like modern libertarians without the shitheadedness. Then that rolls around and the super racist and religious Dems side with the Republicans ensuring Reagan wins in a landslide, and they never left. Which is biting them in the rear end these days pretty badly.

thehumandignity posted:I don't know how a person takes a quote from the Bible, a part of a parable whose message ultimately is "them that take the sword shall die by the sword", removes that quote from its context to deliberately make it seem like Jesus is advocating the opposite of what it turned out he was actually saying in that situation, and doesn't think, "Man, I really am kind of a dick." You give these people too much credit. I don't think they even read the passage, they either found the quote online, I've heard it out of context online before myself at other places, and they heard it was from the bible. Either that or they just skimmed until they found something they thought was cool. These people are lazy, arrogant, and stupid. It's like Einstein said, only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and he wasn't sure about the former.

If you ask them if they have read the Bible they will, of course, tell you they have studied it intensely. Then you point out all the hideous things it says, and they start in with the apologetics about how it was old law so it doesn't count, except for the ones they want to count, and how Jesus didn't really mean it when he said he had come 'not to replace the law', etc. edit: I am 99% sure this is a real post. samsquantch1 fucked around with this message at 19:23 on Mar 3, 2013 |

Someone should try taking the Bible quotes TPC doesn't like, attribute them to the Book of Mormon, and extrapolate from that why Mittens is a traitor who is secretly a Muslim (use passages from the Koran* to demonstrate this). I know they love turning out formerly popular figures for not being conservative enough. Just see how many levels of disinformation you can compress it into. *Not the Koran.

The Founding Fathers wanted to protect individual liberty and make sure that all men, being created equal, were free from the government loving with them. Unless they're gay. Gay people were created... for... wait, why did God make gay people? Someone with a deep cover account ask this question, I've been marked as a troll (but not banned yet, somehow).
