In a hundred years, someone will read about the decline of the US, look at charts like that and go, "What the gently caress why would anyone do this?" I was chatting with someone I talk to about politics and send him that picture. Now I'm embroiled in an argument about "it's staged" and "israel doesn't kill anyone" (actual quotes). One of the reasons Bradley Manning's ordeal gets to me is when I think about it with myself in his shoes. If I came across a video showing guys in an attack helicopter acting like 8 year olds in front of a playstation, murdering journalists, then shooting up a guy who happens to drive by and wanted to help the wounded. I would have thought that this is it. This is the imagery that will get Americans to think differently about war. Weather or not I would have had the balls to do what he did is up for debate, but I would have felt the same. So the guy puts his life on the line, probably based largely on the same nauseating feeling that we get looking at that father and son behind an inadequate barrier. And then people come out of the woodwork, not to defend him, but the scumbags in that helicopter. Its a sad realization that a large portion of your peers have the capacity to see images like that without feeling anything. old beast lunatic fucked around with this message at 20:03 on Mar 20, 2013 |

Found this ad on The Economist's website. I give them points for creativity but I feel like showing a wild animal cradeling a baby is a more unsettling image than they realize. It makes me think of danger, not security. It doesn't help that the baby looks scared. Still, you gotta love how bizarre this looks, regardless of whether its a good advertisement.
