I've played both Mass Effect 2 and 3 without any dlc and they are both still great games without it, so I don't get the point about all this whining about dlc, you don't need them , they are add on's/expansions, buy them after beat you the game the first time if you like the game enough to play it again and want to have something new do the second time around.

So, I've finally gotten around to (nearly) finishing ME2, and I want to know... Can I do the IFF mission and then do sidequests with Legion, or is the wiki right that I'd only be able to safely do his loyalty mission before crew members start dying? I want to bro out with him before I do the suicide mission, but I also don't want to risk everyone. Spoilered just in case, I guess.

That's a fair question - You have a safe gap of ONE mission between the crew getting abducted and them getting killed. Legion's loyalty mission is perfectly fine as long as you go do the Suicide Mission as your next task (just visiting the Citadel/Illium/Omega to buy things doesn't count against this).

The helpful chart (a spoiler, obviously) http://fi.somethingawful.com/is/img203/3025/suisidemissionfinal8.jpg suggests that you can do 1-3 missions after opening the relay and only lose half of your non-squad crew. Really, doing the loyalty missions is worth more than losing non-squad crew members, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Just finished Leviathan, I really enjoyed it (reminded me of Overlord in a lot of places) and I especially liked how they fleshed out the ending more.

After finishing Citadel, I want a Mass Effect sequel of spin-off on a smaller scale. No Reapers, no Cerberus (well, maybe Cerberus), just adventures on the Citadel. We could spend the game exploring this huge station and really getting to know how the setting works when it's not being destroyed. The main character could be some form of C-Sec cop to justify our adventuring without having to be the larger than life hero. Just seeing the wonder of the galactic community and maybe foiling a few dozen major crimes along the way. Basically, I want DAII done right. Anybody else think it's a good idea?

I think something in the mold of New Vegas could work, too. Guy/gal is envolved in a personal quest that ends up branching into something bigger (though probably not on the level of a galactic war) as the game unfolds.

If wanting Grand Theft: Omega is wrong, I don't want to be right. Or if the game had Jack in it, Grand Theft: Space Station. Edit: or a remake of Bulletstorm, with nothing changed except all the characters are Krogan.

Heck, they could even have the game take place before ME1, where you play as Garrus as a loose cannon cop (who gets results). Sort of an easy way out, but I'd still play it. The other Mass Effect 4 I want to see is one where you're playing as a smuggler with a heart of gold, and it's essentially Firefly: the game. The character's a bit played out, ok, but the Citadel DLC proved that the writers know how to handle characters well, I think it could be done. Whatever they do, I definitely don't want another "save the universe!!!!" plot. My favorite game stories of late have been ones with more esoteric plot lines (Alpha Protocol's the one that comes most to mind...at least I think it did), I want to see more game writers take a risk and write smaller, more personal stories.

Most people here seem to be in the "good but not great" train of thought. The setting is a bit similar with the horror story kind of gameplay. On the topic of the next ME game, I would really like it to start sort of how the first Dragon Age did, where you pick a race and have an Origin story type of beginning based on that before you get dropped into the main game. I just really would love to be able to play as all the races.

It's got a very similar atmosphere to Leviathan so you'll probably like it. The last few sequences are probably the most creative set pieces in the series in my opinion though.

Mazerunner posted:Cons: -plot isn't that special You actually allude to it one of the pros, but I disagree on that one. The general idea of a cerberus experiment gone wrong is a bit generic, yes, but the actual details of what happens are at least above-average for video game writing, in my opinion. You also get a little bit of extra closure to the story in ME3, where the doctor fills you in on the consequences of what happens as a result of the choice you make at the end of the ME2 DLC.

I've always liked the idea of being able to play as aliens too but I think the closest we'll ever get is something like ME3's multiplayer where you play as Joe Schmoe the faceless soldier. The big stumbling block would probably be voice acting and all of the work that would have to go into that to represent all of the prominent species. BioWare doesn't seem too willing to not have fully voiced protagonists now too.
