Hah. The "racial implications of IQ tests". You mean the implication that IQ tests are bullshit and largely skewed towards people who already have an established education and cultural background? I remember reading about how people with English as a second language were likely to score lower on an IQ test despite having equal or superior math, critical thinking and reasoning skills to a a 3rd generation American or whatever. ...Aaaand then I notice it's posted by Emden. So actually, go kill yourself you racist gently caress. full photo gallery here: http://news.discovery.com/history/archaeology/gate-to-hell-found-in-turkey-130329.htm quote:A “gate to hell” has emerged from ruins in southwestern Turkey, Italian archaeologists have announced.

Come on dude! Your fascist thing doesn't work if you just keep reposting old poo poo you already got probated for. Show some creativity! Between the World Wars, Józef Piłsudski (Chief of State of Poland from 1918-22) had a plan to weaken the Soviet Union/Russia by breaking it down into its ethnic groups. Then map of Russia's ethnic groups at the time: Those are some really pretty borders let me tell ya. E: Wait my mistake, this map is actually from 1974. Same basic idea though; what Russia would look like if you just made everyone independent if they wanted to or not. burnishedfume fucked around with this message at 02:15 on Mar 30, 2013 |

darthbob88 posted:Dismissing the death of 2M+ people in the Russian Civil War as "negligible" is kinda troubling. Of course, as you are about to note, nobody died in the actual October Revolution, the Civil War was a different matter entirely, which is less disturbing than disingenuous. I don't think it is actually disingenuous to point out the distinction between the civil war and the October Revolution. Most peoples' idea of the October Revolution was some sort of military putsch in which the streets of Petrograd ran red with blood. The actual insurrection itself was almost entirely bloodless besides a few shots exchanged outside the Winter Palace. In fact, the Bolsheviks showed far too much leniency in general during the October Revolution, paroling Junkers and leading Kadets on their word of honor to take no more action against the Congress of Soviets. Almost all of those so paroled joined with the Whites and killed thousands of workers in the Civil War. Lenin, speaking in Sverdlov square in 1920 with Trotsky to the lower right. Under Stalin's regime the image would be edited to exclude Trotsky. Rogue0071 fucked around with this message at 05:41 on Mar 30, 2013 |

I wish it happened in 2009 so they could've said "Barack Obama won it that year instead for basically no reason than not being George W Bush. He then went on to bomb the poo poo out of some places" I was going to post something else, but when I got to imgur's main page, I saw this quote:Eyes of Hate: Joseph Goebbels. Goebbels smiled at him until he learned that Eisenstaedt was Jewish - a moment Eisenstaedt captured in this photo. Suddenly,"he looked at me with hateful eyes and waited for me to wither,"the photographer recalled.

What makes it even more terrible is when they posted it last week, it's right during all the hoopla over Steubenville, as well as another football case in CT, as well as another case of University of North Carolina apparently covering up rape, was all in the news. Total tax on cigarettes in the US. What's interesting in terms of attitudes changing is if you go back a decade, basically every state is the lightest color, or second lightest.

I was surprised that smokes are cheaper in CA than MD/PA when I came out here for work, but counties/cities also have taxes on cigs sometimes. Which leads to the walgreens across the street from the Albertson's being $1.50 less per pack because it's in a different town.

However, once they parked their trucks near the Bridge of No Return, they started throwing out the sandbags that lined the truck bottoms, and handing out M-16 rifles and M-79 grenade launchers that had been concealed below.[2] Several of the special forces men also had Claymore mines strapped to their chests with the firing mechanism in their hands, and were shouting at the North Koreans to cross the bridge.[15][16]

I'm not sure, but I believe the height requirement for both South Korean and American troops(when they were still there) at the Joint Security Area was at least 6ft. The DMZ really speaks for each nation just by how the soldiers stand South Korean soldiers face into North Korea North Korean soldiers stand facing each other as well as into North Korea to make sure no one jumps the line(as has happened more than a few times. In fact I think it happened last year again)

Logan 5 posted:I like NPR... I used to commute to work on the train, now I drive and have been listening to NPR a lot more (if only because the Chicago area absolutely loving sucks in terms of radio station selection compared to northern CA or similar), and I have learned to loath the typical purple prose which almost necessarily introduces any NPR member station story. "More than half of the letters in the adjacent gas station's neon sign are dark now. Beneath them, through the glass of the shop's front window, an elderly man in a blue baseball cap purchases his daily lottery tickets from the young Hispanic girl behind the counter. She smiles and laughs easily. Though it is almost evening here, many of the cars which pass us make their way down this narrow downtown street without the use of their headlights, as though they hesitate to see where they are really going. A small woman of middle-age, her head and body tightly wrapped against the late summer chill, approaches me to ask for the time. Yet, I realize, she isn't asking me for the time so much as she just wants to speak." This could conceivably serve as the introduction to almost any NPR piece on any subject. To me, it all sounds like a lot of self-impressed former English majors who think everything they write is some incredible portraiture of true America. I also loving hate Terry Gross's interviews; she is the epitome of not knowing how to ask a succinct question or when to end it. You hear her fumble with her rambling questions as much as you hear many of her interviewees answer them. However, I recently found the following book for .99 at Goodwill, and, without having heard much if any of John Hockenberry's reporting when it originally aired, it was a pretty good read. Certainly not particularly flattering in its descriptions of the NPR offices in those days (while acknowledging some standout editors etc.) or personalities like Nina Totenberg. Also: bonus graphic descriptions of mechanics of "crip sex." TheMammoth fucked around with this message at 01:58 on Mar 31, 2013 |
