I've heard "Jew" used this way in several states of the Union. And getting japped, which I assume is based on an acronym. The best Jew jokes I've heard have always been told me by Jews. When I was a kid in Chicago we used to say that the enemies in Double Dragon were being "Jewish" when they wouldn't fight. I think it's universal in its geography and its appeal to people with the minds of 8 year olds.

Here in Arizona it was gypped in the 90s and then that just faded and people started saying jewed in the 2000s. I never hear anyone say gypped at all.

Either that or they think it's ok to say anything you want as long as you do it "ironically", and the most offensive thing you could possibly do is be offended or call something out as offensive. The same way that being racist is nowhere near as bad as being called a racist.

Jewed as a synonym of Gypped is pretty common in the Midwest. At this point I really don't see a future where people aren't saying gypped- I literally had know idea that is was supposed to be a slur until I started spending too much time on the Internet.

It's been a standard for a long time the comedians are always more socially aware than their audience - I'm pretty sure they knew exactly who their audience was and didn't give a poo poo. There's nothing better than to get the audience laughing at themselves without realizing. At some point, hopefully, those people wake up and realize how horrific they are. Works about 1% of the time, but no one is going to stop trying - especially good comedians.

He overheard "fans" taking his jokes as explicit racism rather than ironic racism and had a sort of Road to Damascus moment. quote:During his third season, Dave began questioning his work on the show. From the very first episode, Dave's sketches sparked controversy. But, over time, he says some of his sketches started to make him feel "socially irresponsible." http://www.oprah.com/oprahshow/Chappelles-Story/5

Eric Cartman is specifically based off of Archie Bunker from All in the Family. Trey and Matt knew exactly what kind of reaction this type of character would produce.

Their idea of rap hasn't changed since 1976, when saying who you were in a rap was more common? I mean, Rappers Delight does it like three lines in, not with that exact phrasing, but it'd make sense that it had a formative effect on that. It's almost like that was a joke about white people rapping that got overused to the point it wrapped around and became an ACTUAL problem with white people rapping.

So what's up with Hannity all of a sudden. I don't listen to him often but I've tuned in at least 4 times over the past 2 weeks and things have changed. Now, at least once during his program he chats up his female producer and sometimes a female intern they have in the studio. He never did that in the past. He never even spoke to his producer like Rush does with his guy Snerdley, or whatever his name is. Now suddenly, Hannity is having girl talk on a regular basis. Plus, all of the black people he has on his show are suddenly articulate black conservatives and not uneducated crazy fodder for his racist bullshit. Then today, he's interviewing Brian Banks about his case and how he was wrongfully charged and convicted of rape. Hannity is going out of his way to be sympathetic to the guys plight, he even asks if he was sexually assaulted while in prison, and then he talks about how he's actually come to question his own belief in the death penalty. Yes sir, Hannity is all on board now with the idea that you can't execute innocent black men for a crime they never committed cause you know, DNA evidence has proven accurate. Is this some kind of new uber conservative female/black/minority outreach offensive? Has anybody else noticed this change or am I just misremembering all of the racist bigoted poo poo that Hannity has said in the past.

eviltastic posted:He wouldn't be entirely to blame. "There's a friend of the family in every race" is an old phrase. Yeah, in south texas, where I grew up, it was "there's a mesican in every race." Unfortunately I didn't realize this was a loving slur for a long rear end time. In my mind it was just saying "everybody has trash and it all stinks," I later realized it was as bad as basically any ethnic slur, and excusing it by saying "in every race" was just as bad as the slur itself, because you were still comparing others to what was seen as the lowest of the low through racism. Being raised in racist families can make it difficult to parse the racism from acceptable views, but with a bit of thinking and some outside viewpoints it's possible. Unfortunately, many people don't want to be not racist if they were raised that way. The GOP doesn't seem to understand that, not becoming enlightened on this subject, is loving despicable.
