Something close to the sound of a fight between rabid alley cats, but that's assuming they actually got around to recording any music.

Amon Amarth is unveiling new album artwork today on Reddit. I bet it's solid, fluorescent orange, and it's called The Beard Album.

I got a mental image of a ship full of grim, bloody Vikings rowing away from a freshly sacked, burning village. A bloody battlefield aftermath would be sweet, too. Maybe these were already done. AA album covers just blur together.

Im sick to death of "viking" metal. Same old poo poo like AC/DC repeating the same riffs and motifs.

Was at Paganfest last night and you could replace every band (except Trollfest who own) and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference

I feel like this genre's time is up, it was fun while it lasted. Ensiferum and Tyr have been going downhill fast since their first few releases, I don't really expect anything worthwhile from either of them any more.

Speaking of music that has run its course, Amorphis' new album is now floating around on the internet.

I've been listening to a lot of Metsatoll lately. They use their folky instruments in a more coherent way than, say, Korpiklaani, and their singer has one of the coolest (and deepest) voices I've ever heard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_d_ajcuuE0

Do you guys have any recommendations for other folk metal bands with deeper voices?

My recollection is that this dude is only on a couple tracks but this track by Lumsk off of Troll immediately sprung to mind:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_S1KSXfsKs

On that note, I'd forgotten them when people were discussing bands w/ women as lead vocalists, and their lead singer really has a very pleasant and pretty distinctive voice:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hHUqMiFfqU

Their album after this just struck me as being prog rock if memory serves, I'm not sure if they made any metal after this really

I love Lumsk, and am really sad that they haven't put out anything since Det Vilde Kor.

As for deep voices, one of the other bands in this year's Paganfest is one of my personal favorites: Heidevolk

Edit: We saw Metsatöll live when they came through and the really deep voice is their folk-instrumentalist, Varulven.

Korpiklaani are boring as gently caress and can't hold a candle to Ensiferum. While Ensiferum certainly don't have a flawless track record, I still quite like them. I actually enjoy the more peaceful, melancholic overall feel of the latest album.

Van Canto was a pretty funny gimmick thing for a while, but I think they've kind of overstayed their welcome by a couple years. Hearing them emulate a bass line by going "diggity diggity diggity" gets old after a acouple listens, now the most entertaining thing about them is the attractive female vocalist.
I mean I have nothing against them and can kinda respect them for sticking to their guns and doing their own thing, I just can't be bothered to pay attention to them aanymore.

And now I'm gonna give Crimfall another mention because they're really good, and they kinda fit with the current topics of sorta pagany/folky stuff (although they're only tenuously so) and female singers:

I have listened to that King Parrot record probably a dozen times since I've gotten it, and can't see myself stopping. It's got all the elements - crazy blastbeats, great riffs, groovy tempo changes, excellent vocals. Love it.

I got way behind on this thread so sorry to bring this back up but all watching that King Parrot video you posted did to me was make me want to turn you on to some peak Soilent Green. Their best album is nearly 15 years old at this point and remains one of the most brutal things I've ever heard. The lyrics are extremely disturbing and their vocalist (who also fronts Goatwhore) sells them like the nightmares they are.
