Ok, so I just bought DA. I don't have XBOX live. Is there any way for me to get a previous install from DD to get the already having dragon's dogma bonus? In other words, can I slap someone else's save file on a USB drive and transfer it to my xbox? I doubt it, but figured I would ask.

Meh, gently caress it. I'm just going to play.

360 saves might be protected/locked to the memory device, but there is a program that can resign saves for you and copy them over over USB called Modio. I haven't looked into it in forever, but that might be a place to start.

Let's go!
I had this on the 360 until the console died and I almost got to the end. I just downloaded the Dark Arisen expansion/full game on the PS3.

In the first game I played a Magic Archer thanks to watching Patrick from Giant Bomb. This time I would like to try a buffer/mage so that I can sit back and support my pawns. Is this even worthwhile or possible? I have no idea how or if this will work but I want to try.

I'll be starting a fresh game from the PS3. The framerate didn't bother me in the demos.

My goal is to support my pawns and watch the action instead of having to really get into the action. Has anyone done this or am I completely wasting my time?

Hrm. I'm lvl 51 and using lvl 70 pawns and I'm started to get annihilated around the part with the hammer guy in the basement. Wonder if its supposed to be so loving hard or if the game just wants me to go grind forever.

I'm spending most of my time playing "tag the dying pawn" against this dude and the huge group of super bandits in the other direction.

I'm pretty much at this same part at lvl 57. I sniped the bandits to clear out the room, however afterwards the death dragon boss dude wipes the floor with me so I'm going to go do some other main quests, maybe even get back into the post-game, to jump start some levels.

The snappier menus are so nice.

I don't notice any real frame rate improvements in the main game. If you stare into a healing spell, you still drop to 2 fps :V

They added a lower level of pawn speech rate. Unfortunately, that means old pawns need to be taken to the Knowledge Chair to be set to the new level.

There were two before right, "blather on so fast you are practically talking at the same time as yourself" and "occasionally shut up for five seconds between utterances"? So there is a third now?

Anyway 90% of players apparently don't even know about the training chair so it's neither here nor there for the most part.

Man one thing that I noticed is that climbing up things goes way faster now. It looks like it cuts a few frames of animation if your characters torso was above the edge when he grabs it instead of doing that thing it did where your guy would fall back down into the hanging pose first.

Also, I swore this game was coming out way later than this and didn't preorder, what did I miss?

I didn't even know there were pre-order bonuses, but apparently you got a few free rings that give you the third level of certain abilities, which you can unlock in game as well.

If you want to be a healer then that might be the job for you. The mage's only advantage is that they get access to the healing spell plus a holding spell, but it requires you stand in one place.

Mage is pretty fun. The other magic classes are fun to play, as well. Just make sure you have other pawns that'll keep your enemies distracted while you cast a spell.

The key about Dragon's Dogma is to not worry about your class. You play what you want, and you switch when you want, and you have a fun time doing it. The wide array of classes to choose from insures you'll be able to have all the complementing abilities to have a kick-rear end fantasy party. If you want to specialize you can do that, and here's the level up chart on stat progression (Don't worry about defense, not important).

So I went and did the second Archdemon fight. My pawns were dumb and got stuck in the one hit KO/insta gone attack, and I ended up going into the second phase without any pawns. I did very pathetic amounts of damage, so I ended up just giving up. Alas. Next time, I'll go in with better preparations, especially being more careful about keeping my Pawns alive. :negative:

Also, don't forget that there's a cool IRC channel on irc.synirc.net at #dogmagoons where you can talk about how enemies ill like fire or how you can't go wrong with these masterworks, all.

Keep in mind this advice really only applies to Mage. Dragon's Dogma has a Mage class (which you can start out as) which is basically the support mage class with a couple direct nukes. Then there's advanced Sorcerer class which is direct artillery with long'ish cast times but you basically summon meteors and gigantic storms.

But hey you can make a lightning whip and whip the poo poo out of things!

Those are basically shortcuts if you are a tiny person, it helps you get into the locked rooms around the courtyard easier and faster, otherwise you have to do more dangerous things to get into those places.

Pretty much. Most classes with a Staff can use High Brontide, which is the whip spell too. (Magick Archer I forget, but Mystic Knight can, and Sorceror too). The mage's advantage is they have a defense buff (you can just use periapts or special group affecting items from Fournival) and the healing spells, while Sorceror's get something called Voidspell which isn't as useful because it only cures Petrifaction, which you can become highly resistant to with the right gear or just use a softener potion, and only two enemies can even cause that effect in the first place, they're bosses, giving you a lot of time to prepare for such things.

If you want to mainline the Sorceror, then give the Duke a forgery of his Wyrmking Ring so you can have a faster cast time from the real one! Also, both mages and sorcerors get access to enchantment buffs, but sorcerors are made to kill so choose your abilities wisely.

In short:

Mages get Low and Mid-tier spells plus the healing and defense spells.
Sorcerors get access to the low and mid-tier spells as well as high end spells that crush everything on the screen but take a while to conjure up.

You won't be useless if you're a mage, but Sorceror stat growth for magic attack is the highest so you should play as that to get your Magic stat up, which also affects healing(I heard somewhere it does but I could be wrong) and what effect your abilities have on enemies.
