Was there supposed to be any point to Dutch and his lost laptop full of kiddie porn or whatever? Or was it just supposed to be jokey episode filler?

Just there to make the audience wince and think maybe there is a darker side to our beloved Detective Wagenbach.

Of Mice and Lem might be the best episode of television ever. I think the only thing that's close for me is "the constant" in Lost.

No...the insane thing about The Shield's final episodes, the absolute balls on the season is it gives us something that no other show would survive and STILL has a few episodes left in the tank. I'm talking about something that when it happened, I screamed like a bitch in extacy and fist pumped because I always wondered what would happen if such an eventuality came to pass: Vic turns in his badge and goes rogue. ROGUE MACKIE!!!!

Yeah, I didn't perceive it as anything more than that. It's just like the cat. Dutch feels he has to understand the mindset of the various killers/rapists he pursues to be able to do his job effectively. Sometimes he takes it too far, but it makes sense for his character to do such things. On a side note, I'm glad that spoiler referred to something I had already watched.

I haven't had a whole lot of free time for the past couple days, but if all goes to plan I'll be done with this season by Friday. I'm so pumped. It's amazing to me how all of these different plotlines since season 1 are all converging. I don't know if it was said in this thread or another, but whoever said "just skip seasons 2-4 if you get bored" was a moron. I love that Vic went to Schmitty to post Lem's bail, and Halpern to get intel on the Canadian kush. But it all works out for Schmitty, because he gets a cool 100 grand when all is said and done. That's not bad for all the poo poo they have made him do. I see the title for the next episode, "Of Mice and Lem", and I think my earlier suspicions of all this not ending up well for Lem are going to become true. And by not well, I think he is going to get the Crowley treatment. I don't know how, or why, or by whom, but I have a sinking feeling it's going to happen. I also read someone's post earlier saying that it is quite possibly the best episode of the series, and one of the best episodes, of anything, of all time. I will immediately watch it when I get home tomorrow. So excited.

Watched a few episodes last night, most notably S6E3 wherein Vic beats the poo poo out of Guardo with a chain, then shoots him. I only wish it had been Shane instead. I also like the new strike team member/replacement Det Hyatt. He seems to have a good head for the street and hasn't totally rubbed Vic the wrong way yet. I'm also loving the interaction between Billings and Dutch! Good stuff.

I can understand if somebody doesn't like the show, but I don't understand why. The show starts out with a bang, and doesn't really let up. If somebody gets bored of the Wire after watching the first few episodes, I can understand why, but it's their loss because it gets so much better. The insulting thing, really, was to suggest skipping seasons.

I think we were pretty much in the same spot in the show but I seem to have pulled ahead of you a little bit. Anyways, the last couple episodes of season 5 are phenomenal. I'm a few episodes into season 6 and I should be done with the season by the end of the week. One thing I don't get about Aceveda is that it seemed like they were going somewhere with the whole raping fantasy thing of his, and then he gets elected for city council and we don't see him much anymore. Was it just something simple like the writers changed their minds and pulled back on the story? Not that I mind though, the more time they would have spent with Aceveda jerking off to rape videos would be less time devoted to the strike team, which would have been a very bad thing.

He's great in Justified. The show has filled the Shield void for me somewhat, although it doesn't quite have the impending dread of everything crashing down, at least not yet. It has a lot humor and great lines to make up for it though.

Holy motherfucking Christ. poo poo, poo poo, poo poo! I just finished season 5 I may have seen it coming, but... wow. I did NOT expect that. Shane killed Lem... WITH A loving GRENADE! I don't usually get emotional over this kind of poo poo, but that was sad. Lem was truly a good guy at heart. He may have been mixed up in Vic's poo poo, but he always had the most pure intentions. Seeing him blown to bits was depressing. It's been said many times before, but Chiklis delivered the best "We're going to find out who did this, and kill them!" line I've ever seen. I have no words right now, other than that. That was some crazy poo poo. Somewhat related, but I did get a little bit of deja vu from the scene (don't read unless you're caught up on The Americans) It reminded me of Agent Beeman shooting the KGB operative while chowing down on a burger. Obviously that scene wasn't nearly as powerful as The Shield, but really, what's with FX shows and killing people while they are trying to enjoy a sandwich? On another side note, I finally had a dream about The Shield last night. Naturally, I was Ronnie in the dream, but from what I can remember I was in the same position as Lem was in season 5. This show is permeating my subconscious now.

I was just about to make a comment about the sudden increase of the quality in music choice in this series. The use of this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cvMy5tATjM in S6E1 was incredible, at the beginning and end of the episode. It was especially poignant at the end when it was set to Aceveda's press conference on Lem and police corruption in the background, with Kavanaugh planting evidence in Vic's home. That is Breaking Bad levels of excellent use of music. edit: EvilTobaccoExec posted:Oh hey. Thats the post we've been looking forward to It's fun to have an outlet like this. Hey y'all, I watched over half of season one yesterday, and escape artist sent me over here. I'm already loving the show, so I was excited to hear that most people find season one to be the least great! I like how Vic is (first half of season one) an unrepentant liar, thief, extortionist, and murderer, so you're (or at least I'm) basically rooting against him from the start, but he plays it so cool that you still want to see how he gets away with poo poo. Kind of like Walt on Breaking Bad except in that show you're tricked into thinking Walt's the "good guy" at first. At the same time, Vic seems like a supportive father at home, trying his best to support his autistic kid and everything (though he has that thing with the prostitute going that doesn't really indicate that he's a good husband). Still, it's pretty early, so I'm fully anticipating the family stuff crumbling steadily and the corruption skyrocketing. It just seems like the kind of arc Vic is going to have. Looking forward to seeing what actually happens and enjoying the ride! Finally, I will pose a question here for which I have never gotten a satisfactory answer: why is Walton Goggins not in everything? (Yeah his character is a giant cock in this, but he's still putting in a really good performance.) Mahlertov Cocktail fucked around with this message at 18:56 on May 26, 2013 |

I just found out about The Shield PC game. I saw a little bit of it on Youtube, and it looks hilarious/terrible. What's everyone think of it? I have a morbid curiosity, but it looks like it would get pretty repetitive, quickly. Also, since it contains spoilers because it "occurs" in between seasons, spoiler tag anything that might spoil the first-time viewers.

For the first-timers out there - make sure to catch the webisode released between Seasons 5 and 6. It looks like that's up on Amazon, and I'm pretty sure that it was included in the Season 6 DVDs. Originally it was hosted on some site sponsored by Budweiser, but it doesn't seem to be available after a quick Googling. Spoiler alert: don't search for this until you've finished Season 5.

My friends and I would watch The Shield as a group. Roommates and friends would crowd in to watch it on Tuesday nights. The end of Season 5, everyone was silent in the room for what felt like 20 minutes. When the finale ended I genuinely felt sad because this show wouldn't be on anymore. It was one of the few shows I have seen from Season 1 to the last watching every episode as it airs. The first year it was on was also the first season of 24. So you could watch 24 then watch the shield. A real good one two punch of tv programming.

Mahlertov Cocktail posted:S02E10: Good lord, the way Vic deals with Gilroy is cold as poo poo. Well, Gilroy was indeed a dick. Gilroy was going to talk, and Vic knew that. I think a part of Vic still wanted to help out his old buddy, but Gilroy crossed the line when he threatened Vic and his family in season 1. Shipping him off to Mexico was pretty fair, considering that he could have just put a bullet in his head. soggybagel posted:My friends and I would watch The Shield as a group. Aww, man... (S6E3) I got excited when Ken Jeong suddenly appeared on screen, but he just as suddenly disappeared. Other than that, it was a very interesting episode. Obviously the heart of the episode was Vic's interrogation, and subsequent killing and burning of Guardo, but seeing Ronnie teamed up with Billings and Dutch was fun.

I continue to be amazed at how quickly this show moves, and how well it works. S6E6 I was thinking that Vic wouldn't find out the truth about Lem's death until at least next season. The confrontation between Vic and Shane was nothing short of intense, and I had a feeling that this was it for Shane, dude is getting killed tonight. Now I can see Shane going down an even more destructive path, and it's going to be great to watch because he deserves every bit of it. That was incredible acting by Chiklis and Goggins.
