Art display by Shepard Fairey of Obama HOPE fame, commemorating a former libertarian-Marxist house in Copenhagen that was forcibly evacuated and demolished in 2007. The problem is that it wasn't his "peace" to declare and he apparently hadn't talked to any of the former residents about what he was doing. Hence the graffiti, and hence Fairey getting assaulted in Denmark by locals calling him an "Obama illuminati." Which he is.

In basketball, the term field goal refers to a basket scored on any shot or tap other than a free throw, worth two or three points depending on the distance of the attempt from the basket. "Field goal" is the official terminology used by the National Basketball Association (NBA) in their rule book, in their box scores and statistics, and in referees' rulings

It's cool, Metta World Peace knows what Jason is going through. He supports him 100%:

quote:

“Whether it’s a free country or not, you should be free to act and do as you want to do, as long as it’s not violent. I came here in a Cookie Monster shirt because I wanted to,” World Peace told reporters at the Lakers' practice facility in El Segundo. “And I was going to wear the pants but I thought you [media] guys were going to judge me. And I was going to wear the hat, too, but I figured you guys would judge me.... I should have wore it. You should be free to do and act how you want to act.”

Shepard Fairey later spoke with some of the guys from the old youth house, and they explained why they were angry about his mural. So they discussed how those guys could show their side of the story on the mural, and they made this:

Instead of Peace it says "not forgotten, not forgiven"

Since people are going through their Afghanistan pictures, any chance someone has a picture of a Afghan National Police getting his first ever payment in the from of a single $100 bill? He was looking at it intently with this expression that stuck in my mind. It was printed in either Time or Newsweek.

Angelus Novus by Paul Klee. Well known due to Walter Benjamins description of it:

quote:

"A Klee painting named Angelus Novus shows an angel looking as though he is about to move away from something he is fixedly contemplating. His eyes are staring, his mouth is open, his wings are spread. This is how one pictures the angel of history. His face is turned toward the past. Where we perceive a chain of events, he sees one single catastrophe which keeps piling wreckage upon wreckage and hurls it in front of his feet. The angel would like to stay, awaken the dead, and make whole what has been smashed. But a storm is blowing from Paradise; it has got caught in his wings with such violence that the angel can no longer close them. The storm irresistibly propels him into the future to which his back is turned, while the pile of debris before him grows skyward. This storm is what we call progress."

If you graded that on a standard-ish rubrik, it'd get 0/5 for citations and formatting, 2/5 for grammar and syntax, 2/5 for analysis/insight into the topic, and 2/5 for organization. It's poo poo.

The nazi flag is on the wall around a corner now. Outside of that photo, a swastika in the brickwork, that flag, and the tail of the V1, there's not much else. It certainly didn't have the creepy vibe that some WWII museums have about it. They treated information pretty well instead of the "Wow those Nazis sure were the übermench", mentioning how a lot of forced labor died in the rocket factories, etc.
I was also surprised by how positively they treated the Soviet space program. They didn't try desperately to make it look like the US space program was always #1.
