Yeah, echoing holy shitfuck.

Titans are WAYYYY loving faster than I expected. They can really move when they want to. I really have no idea how this can proceed from here, and that's a good thing.

We also got a ton of info about Titans themselves this time. I was beginning to wonder whether they paid attention to other animals or whether they needed to eat. The fact that we now definitely know they only exist for hunting down humans answers one question but raises a hundred more.

Yesssssss, this is how you end an episode on a cliffhanger. :getin:

I've been reading the manga so no surprises (so far) for me. I do want to say that I think Production I.G. has done a fantastic job making the titans as horrifying in motion as I could ever hope for and I'm loving the adaptation overall.

I love how Eren burning shonen passion caused him to charge into an ambush and get his entire team wiped out. I guess not all problems in anime can be solved by screaming really loud.

And that's why this show is borderline catharsis to anyone who grew up on junk food shonen where that approach did work.

Nope. Crunchyroll doesn't delay by region. The delay isn't regional. It's not out on Crunchyroll yet.

The great thing about the series is that even with sugoi anime eyes titans are still sinister and unnerving.

I've seen some stuff that would really make you say "like what?"
What a loving roller coaster of an episode. I think my favorite part was Titan-claus, it's nice to see a normal-ish titan that doesn't have that one haircut, YOU KNOW THE ONE.

Clever Betty
If it's any consolation for those who are tempted by the manga, those of us who HAVE read the whole thing are, if anything, even MORE hyped because Production IG is doing such a loving INCREDIBLE HOLY poo poo job with this show.

This episode was perfectly done. Like, really. I had seriously reservations on how they would handle what happened in this episode and they pulled it off almost flawlessly, exceeding my expectations in some cases.

I KNEW that the bit from the original trailer where Eren was zipping really fast under and over and through stuff like Spiderman was cut off right before he got his poo poo right the hosed up. I knew it! And it was SO GOOD!

Man I loving LOVE this series. Best part is: the entire thing is this good and jaw-dropping. This isn't just a strong start. The whole thing is outstanding, grim, dark, somehow manages to be humorous at just the right times(like Sasha), and then a sprinkle of occasional schadenfreude on top.

In this episode they mentioned that they don't know how the Titans reproduce but (This is me guessing having not read the manga) there's this freeware survival horror game called "Blue Devil" and whenever he eats someone, he produces another Devil with some of the physical attributes of the victim. Thus I got the idea that the Titans reproduce by eating people which explains why they only target people and why they have individual human characteristics. It doesn't explain why there's no Titans with female attributes though.

That was a good episode. If Eren doesn't turn out to have titan regenerating super powers given to him by his mad scientist dad then the next episode will be even better, unless it somehow creates a battle strategy that involves Eren repeatedly feeding himself to titans.

In its early days, TV was like a nymphomaniac clairvoyant. A medium you could turn on with a knob.
The last scene was done so well. In the manga, the squad's annihilation is a lot more gory and seems to play out in a nightmarish slow-motion. In this episode it was quick and brutal, barely giving you time to process all the deaths, letting you feel the shock the characters must be feeling. Less violent than the manga, but just as horrifying.

This is such a loving fantastic adaptation.

I just want to make that clear to anyone who wants to switch to the manga to see what happens next, the anime is way better than the manga. It's polished so many rough edges, and perfectly captured the tone. They've been adding quite a few scenes this whole time that the manga lacked, and the result is a much less disjointed story. Seriously, stick out the anime. The only thing the manga has going for it is that there's more of it.

I mean, it's pretty close to being my favorite manga ever, I'm as big a fanboy of it as they come, but this anime adaptation is perfect.

The movement and freedom of the 3D gear is so loving well animated. You can feel it when you watch- the weightless inertia flinging you through the air. It looks like so much fun. As Eren and his comrades flew through the city, to do battle against the monsters, to fight for humanity... it was a fantastically empowering and uplifting feeling.

And then there were Titans.

In no time at all you've gone from a badass superhero squad to a bunch of flies without wings. It's not just that you're helpless, that you just can't fight against them... you're helpless and terrified. Utterly pants-wettingly terrified. In broad daylight, with nothing hidden... Titans are still nothing but pure grotesque horror. Titans don't rely on jump scares, or fear of the unknown to be scary- you can see them clearly as they approach. It does nothing to lessen the terror. They're coming for you. And there's nothing you can do. They're inevitable. They've already got you.

Which is the perfect time to remember... none of them have ever been outside the walls. The world is full of such vast wonders that they've never seen. It's not just that the horror of a brutal death, but the empty feeling of loss of a life unfulfilled.

And then you're eaten.

Such a loving good story.

It's say it's more that the manga really likes to do flashbacks and jump around the time line. There's a lot of stuff in the second episode that the manga doesn't cover until like 5 chapters later. Keeping it more chronological seems to be working better.

This part, in the manga, came pretty much right after the childhood intro. Needless to say I couldn't stop reading it after that.

When it comes to pacing, starting with this is certainly getting straight to the point, it hooks you immediately. I think it worked well enough for the manga while the anime did benefit from the slight lull of the previous couple of episodes. I'd like say to more, but there's no reason to speculate much on future stuff just yet.

Both the source and the way they're adapting it are wonderful, is what I wanted to say.

I read the manga quite a way past this point, but even still, that lecture about the titans was so well done. Just calmly presenting the fact that there are things beyond the walls which certainly aren't natural and which only exist to kill humans. It is incredibly creepy in its own way. And they are also practically invulnerable. And now they seem to have become intelligent.

Mankind is so loving hosed.

One of the most impressive things about this show is the impeccable sense of space it imparts. Pretty much at all times you know where everything is in relation to everything else, and the locations themselves have a great sense of geography. Everything is terrific.
