Youtube is live now with the countdown, 1 hour to go. Twitch isn't live yet except for some weird stream just plays the trailer over and over here. The twitch stream on na.lolesports.com is a different one though so I'm not sure what that one's about.Riftling posted:All of the teams are having their visas handled by a 3rd party agency that specializes in stuff like this. Even so, leaving your visa until you get screwed cause it gets sent back not even a business day late is silly, they could have taken care of it a while ago. It's not that hard to fill out a form and drop your poo poo in the mail. (NA specifically, I have no idea how EU works.) Do they have to get a business visa for this? I'm surprised they don't have multi-entry tourist visas that'd still be valid from whenever they had to go to Shanghai last to be honest.

I know esports is goofy and all, but they should just let teams pick a name not associated with sponsors so they can keep it if they have to switch. It gets loving confusing sometimes.

Really psyched to watch this all star match gonna telecommute just to see it live. Riftling posted:I will say that team Vulcun Techbargains is a ridiculous name. TSM Snapdragon and EG Raidcall at least have decent product names behind them. Despite that, it's still pretty cool that these companies are sponsoring esports teams. Maybe one day we'll be in a place where the teams can have names that stand on their own, but we need these sponsors now. Wonder if there are any Riot rules on sponsors. Would be funny if a porn site sponsored a team. I mean it is the "perfect" demographic. IBentMyWookie fucked around with this message at 05:53 on May 24, 2013 |

Edit: On professionalism, I did a little leap of joy when Dragonborns was eliminated. I feel bad for them and all, but they constantly wore silly hats and apparel to the LCS. It's a nice callback to our nerd roots, but I think we really need to see more professionalism in the LCS to continue to grow esports/LoL. I can't imagine they would ever think site like that would sponsor a team, so until it happens, probably not. TSM Spankwire would be great. I wonder how much the sponsors really make from the teams.

Just wanna say that LemonNation's real name is actually Daerek Hart, not Derek or Derrick or whatever. Sounds like a fantasy assassin of some sort, obviously an antagonist in the same serious of novels where we meet Bram de Winter (wewillfailer, support player for Sinners Never Sleep).

I wonder how much the sponsors really make from the teams. I'm not sure even they would know. Consider Snapdragon. That's not really money-for-sales that they paid for, it's money-for-recognition. So the kind of accounting that a company that does that kind of ad budget might not necessarily say "X campaign produced # sales for Y product", but rather measure increase in brand recognition. How many people who might have an Android phone now strongly recognize the brand "Snapdragon", and understand it's a processor that's in their phones? Probably a lot, since League has a lot of teens with smartphones, who aren't necessarily going to go for the upscale option of an iPhone. Porn wouldn't be a good sponsor to pick up and given that Riot can be as heavy-handed as it likes with LCS, and its audience has immense numbers of people under 18, they'd totally veto it, rules be damned (i.e. Riot makes the rules, who needs rules?).

I can definitely say that I had no idea what any phone's processor was but because of TSM sponsorship I now am well aware about Snapdragon and what phones carry them.

If I were in the market for a new phone, I would totally get a phone with the Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor just because of this goofy sponsorship. I bought a pizza just because of the pizza.gg thing. Supportin dem esports like a consumer whore. All stars is live right now! I think the stage looks amazing. It's just pre-game for now.

Hearing Theoddone say "TSM Snapdragon" instead of the drawn out "teeesssemmm" that they used to do is totally worth whatever snapdragon is paying them to me. Anyway I'm a hopeless dork but I do change my retail habits based on companies that give money to e-sports. Marketing departments are a necessary evil of life and hopefully they'll keep giving money to things I'm at least interested in instead of dropping huge money bombs on the Super Bowl or whatever. Also, All-stars is live.

Oh, so the 1v1/2v2s weren't pre-recorded, they were just qualifiers. It's also worth noting that the jungle competition really is just a laning 1v1 between the junglers. Riot didn't add anything special for them, unfortunately.
