Turisas2013 sounds exactly like what an untitled album sitting on a hard drive would be called. Titling the album that sounds like they just looked at the folder name and went 'gently caress it.'
I dunno, I'm kinda seeing it as "This is what Turisas of 2013 sounds like, loving deal with it and gently caress the haters". Then there's what Nygård says in the statement I quoted, them wanting to make it a more band-centric album rather than some big fuckoff musical soundtrack.
I'm pretty certain the guys must have some sort of thought behind it, at least. Whether people agree with that thought is another matter of course.
TL;DR The album title doesn't bother me since it fits the idea behind the album.

I was never enjoying it. I only eat it for the nutrients.
So this is what Jesper Stromblad, Glenn Ljungstrom and Marco Aro have been up to:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzm6ShUSxSw

It's nothing particularly original -- if anything it sounds like Yet Another loving Rogga Johansson Jam minus the Rogga Johansson -- but after the last two dozen In Flames albums, I'll take it.

Jesus, are we listening to the same Turisas song? This sounds almost exactly like their last album, except with flatter production. Still the same 80s cock rock riffs, except with a "weird" riff/keyboard, which is about as prog as Yes - 90125 (and just about as 80s sounding). Yeah, they did away with the overblown poo poo, but the song just sounds like third rate 80s worship. Between that and the album title, I'm pretty much ready to write this band off. Their last album had maybe two good songs on it, and one of them was a retread of To Holmgard and Beyond (which is still their best song as far as I'm concerned)

It kinda pains me to say that, since I actually really liked The Varangian Way when it came out.

Yeah good lord that's one of the most obnoxious songs I've heard since some dick posted that machine head music video a while back.

Been some time since I enjoyed any new melodeath that wasn't Amon Amarth or, uh, Xerath are slightly melodeath I guess?

I like working out to Mastodon, High on Fire and Down I Go. I'd like something similarly boggy in sound, but just instrumental since the lyrics can be a little distracting. Any suggestions? :)

Try Be'lakor and In Mourning's latest offerings if you haven't yet. They both came out last year this time but yeah man it's been a lovely year for melodeath so far.

Mors Principium Est's most recent album, ...and Death Said Livewas pretty awesome melodeath. Not quite as good as the Unborn but they managed to pull off their signature sound with almost none of the original line up and the album has riffs for days.

I thought Clayman was also decent but yeah, luckily when In Flames really started to eat poo poo, Insomnium came out with 'In the Halls of Awaiting' and have been killing it ever since.

So I didn't realize that the SE of the new Amon Amarth comes with a 4-track "covers" EP. I put covers in quotes because they're actually original songs but done in the style of Priest, Sabbath, Motorhead, and AC/DC.

These songs are actually kinda awesome. Is that Johan doing the Ozzy-impresson on Satan Rising?

It is indeed a pretty cool extra, makes a nice change from the usual making-of DVD or live footage. I'm 99% sure that it's not Johan on Satan Rising though, I think it could be Messiah Marcolin again.

Here's the tracks in question:

Burning Anvil of Steel
Satan Rising
Snake Eyes
Stand Up to go Down

Am I right in thinking it's ACDC, Sabbath, Motorhead, and Priest, in that order?

I was listening to this EP a lot at work today and was going to ask if other people were enjoying it too but there you go. I love that Amon Amarth said "gently caress it" and released four tracks of hero worship and I get huge poo poo eating grins listening to it.

I do wonder who does the vocals on Satan Rising, yeah. It could be Messiah, but then why not make a Candlemass-style song since they obviously love the guy?

Seconding Be'lakor. Also, new Omnium Gatherum is pretty drat good. I don't think it's quite as awesome as New World Shadows, but it's still really solid stuff.

The first one is definitely Manowar. The second one might be Black Sabbath or Candlemass but that is sort of splitting hairs.

Just had to get this out there: I know it's "old" by now, but Early Graves' most recent release is still really satisfying even after so many months of listening to it. Reminds me a lot of High on Fire's 'Blessed Black Wings' in more than a few ways, longevity being the biggest of 'em.
