PostNouveau posted:They mention in one of the commentary tracks that they have to design characters themselves. The offshore animators can't design for them, and they don't have the budget to hire anyone stateside to do it. So you get a lot of background characters showing up over and over again, as well as background characters getting fleshed out. When they need a new character, it's easier to just grab one that's already designed. Someday we'll see story about the guy with a plug for a head or the space invaders guy.

Something interesting I noticed was that in the first episode with Myra she mentions them actually being 19 years old. Now that could just be her being crazy but it made me wonder if actually that just means the doc spent a total of 3 years between different sets of clones. I think this may be backed up because there's one ep where a conversation takes place where someone says to the doc "They grow up so fast," and he remarks something like "Yeah, when you let them."

They're pretty blatant about Doc lying to the boys about their age. In one of the episodes Hank gets something with his birthday on it and says "If this is right I'm..." and Doc cuts him off saying "Curiosity killed more than the cat, boy".

So my first T-Shirt package arrived this morning and because of their retarded labelling had a customs charge of €35, which is $45. I had to refuse the package and send it back, no way i can afford to spend $520 total for 10 shirts. I'm so pissed off right now. I've emailed them about it to see if they can send them to me all at once at the end instead so i only pay import charges once echomadman fucked around with this message at 16:33 on Jul 11, 2013 |

Since this thread is so big on theories I'd like to put this one forward for you guys to poke holes in: Rusty is Dean and Hank's brother, not their father. It's established really early on that Jonas was the one working on cloning technology, and Rusty is a tremendous failure who is unlikely to "perfect" a drat thing. Definitely veering into fanfic territory, here, but Rusty's always been so pathetic that the idea of him scoring with any woman seems pretty impossible. They've touched a lot on his loneliness this season, especially when he was younger. If he were to, say, stumble upon a lab filled with clones of his father, he might be inclined to raise them as his own sons. Given that Dean is a lot more physically similar to Jonas, it'd explain why Rusty is so obsessed with making Dean "just like the old man." Because it would then mean that he was just like his own father! Explain Hank has having got all the lousy, RECESSIVE GENES! Ultimately, the reason I find this funny is if you throw in the Monarch teaser about him playing with Rusty as a child(which will probably go no where but bear with me,) it means that practically every main member of the cast is a Venture Brother. edit: I know that technically Rusty is a "Venture Brother" no matter what and that your father's clone wouldn't necessarily be your brother but, on the other hand, shut up

There are huge stretches of Venture Brothers that I just straight up do not remember at all, so I figured there'd be something to disprove it somewhere down the line. I've pretty much forgotten anytime Rusty's done anything right.

He keeps most of the clones in a "near-ready" stage and then when Hank and Dean die, he goes about "finishing" them. This takes however much time it takes (probably a few weeks to a few months), but given how frequently they've died, it's added up to a handful of years total over the course of their lives. The problem is that Hank and Dean don't remember that period of time, so they lie to them about their actual age and pretend that there are no missing chunks of time in their lives. I also find it hilarious that the one thing Rusty is good at is actually illegal.

This was another thing that was suggested in the Dr Killinger "The Doctor is Sin" episode - Dr Venture has the self absorption, lack of morality, hosed up childhood and scientific competence to become a very high profile super villain. But he can't, because he's RUSTY VENTURE, and it doesn't jibe with his self righteous nature, so he rejects it and all of these personality quirks combine to basically make him an ineffective government contractor and just a general rear end in a top hat.
