I concur. And it just gets worse from there. There are tons of them are literally questioning the validity of the event and the victims accounts of it. Basically claiming hundreds of people are liars out to get their precious man child. Another was laughing at the mother of two young men who had each lost a right leg because she quote: "wanted to be in court to look evil in the face" apparently that's hilarious to em'.

It's strange that they could spend time and effort to get there, but they can't put the time and effort into finding out about the evidence? I mean, if you're that passionate about something, shouldn't you at least have cursory knowledge about it?

They have a lot of theories and they are all bugfuck insane:

The Tsarnaevs were targeted by the FBI/CIA/Boston Police Department/Big Media (all interchangeable) and set up. Reasons for the setup differ based on what dumbass Truther youtube video the theorist watched first.

It's either a false flag operation to distract the American people from local political fuckery, or an excuse to go to war with Islamic people in (mumble mumble), or the BPD goofed a bomb training exercise by accidentally using real bombs that hurt real people, so they needed someone to blame. Some variations go as far as to claim there was no bombing at all, just a stage show that was elaborately planned and somehow none of the actors have squealed. Either way, Jahar is defs innocent.

His brother made him do it. He didn't want to. He was forced/misled/brainwashed. That's the same thing as being innocent.

The USA had it coming, so even if he did it, it's not like he should go to jail, because DRONE STRIKES.

Even if he did it, he's only 19. Jaharians "empathize" with his mistake and don't want him to have to face consequences for it. He's a victim, just like the actual victims.

He isn't a frothing biting lunatic, according to his friends. Good people don't just do bad things!

They had a "gut feeling" the minute they saw his photo. They just know, okay. They feel close to him (which is why they use his nickname and parrot his little in-jokes, and call Tamerlan "Tam" like they're his grieving lifelong friends). They read his tweets and feel like they know him, and he would definitely never blow up a bunch of people. Not mah nigga Jahar! (the white girls in this fandom really, really love to throw the N word around).

Islam is a religion of peace, therefore someone who believes in that faith would never kill someone.

There was female DNA found on the bomb--therefore it was a WOMAN who planted the bomb. Why haven't we heard more about her? What's the FBI/CIA/NBC/PTA hiding? HMM? HMMMM???

Evidence that has not been submitted to Tumblr cannot possibly exist. What honest motive would the government possibly have to hide that information from the public?

The other suspicious devices that day were all bombs, and clearly couldn't have been planted by two people! The real bomber is still out there.

"I just realized for the first time that my government sometimes does bad things. Therefore, this has to be a coverup."

"If [evidence] was real, why didn't they announce it on the 20th of April?" repeat ad infinitum.

The carjacking victim won't show his face and come forward--therefore he is a liar.

Jahar supported the West Memphis Three. Therefore, Jahar is innocent.

Jahar questioned 9/11 (he was a baby truther) on twitter, therefore the FBI set him up.

Someone started a rumor that the note in the boat was written in blood--now that's being spread as fact, and people smugly crow that there is no note, because he wouldn't have had enough blood left in his body to write it.

The photos of the brothers at the marathon are, of course, photoshopped. I've seen one floating around that circles the trouser legs of a man walking behind Dzhokhar and claims they are meant to be Dzhokhar's legs, but shopped on backwards. His real legs are visible in the picture.

They also claim both that he was uninjured in the boat (so no blood to write a note with) and that he was so badly injured that he couldn't have written a note. The video evidence of him planting the bomb cannot possibly exist because it is not on Tumblr yet. Also, he was arrested--this is proof that the government is corrupt, because he got hurt in the process and that is not supposed to happen in a free America.

The FBI apparently tried and failed to kill their innocent suspect several times at the boat and on the way to the hospital. Literally, they set up a firing squad to shoot him, but they all missed his vital organs so they stopped shooting and let the paramedics treat him instead. Then one of the EMTs stabbed him in the throat (some variations used to insist they cut his vocal cords to "stop him speaking out what he knew" but then he started talking and the rumor died) and then also inexplicably stopped their murder attempt and just saved his life instead. Later, in prison, The Government broke his arm and tortured him, which is why he would be pleading guilty. When he didn't plead guilty, Jaharians celebrated that this means he's totally innocent, because all radical extremists are, of course, happy to die for their cause.

CNN, NBC and Fox News reported different and conflicting details, which they take as proof that the FBI is constantly changing its story. Jaharians argue that "the government" planned this enormous, violent, bloody attack (or staged it with loads of totally trustworthy actors, if you prefer) and then forgot to plan for little contingencies like sticking to a single pre-planned story. Jaharians get really smug about any tiny inconsistencies they "uncover" (see also: read someone else posting about on Twitter) because it proves Jahar is being persecuted unfairly.

Basically it's a huge echo chamber where any information that comes out gets repeated and distorted beyond belief, and the number of people repeating whatever rumor legitimizes it into Fact. They circle the wagons and cry "haters and bullies" at the slightest criticism, because feeling oppressed helps them not feel bored in their lives. They're getting off on the thrill of identifying with a controversial and hated figure, and egging each other on to be the most faithful of his supporters.

What's really amazing is watching these 18 year old girls allying themselves with Alex Jones, Jeff Rense and Glenn Beck without knowing who the hell these people are. If someone on StormFront.org posted a vaguely pro-Dzhokhar article, a Jaharian of color would signal-boost it within ten minutes. "See? We're not crazy, other people believe there's a government coverup too! #seek truth #we are the lion #do the research"

Tsarnaev's Twitter icon was a roaring lion and he once posted Profound Teenaged Wisdom about how "these little dogs don't know they're barking at a lion." So a bunch of creepy Tumblr people got together and made a "charity" organization named We Are The Lion using lion iconography that has been acting scammy since day 1 (they were soliciting donations as a charity, in the form of blank money orders). They urge people to "roar loudly" and are responsible for that tiny, sad protest outside the courthouse. Months of campaigning with their twee lion posters and 6 ladies showed up, plus one rear end in a top hat in a Fawkes mask (that he took off for pictures) waving a "false flag" sign that was impossible to read. The news that bothered to cover their presence didn't even get their organization's name right.

"Leave the chickens" is something Douchebag The Younger once wrote on an online petition involving (iirc) the banning of urban chicken keeping. Fangirls googled it and adopted it as a precious little in-joke and sign of solidarity. I wish I didn't know these things. It's gross but also compelling, like picking a scab.

Your theory works equally well to analyze the behavior of the crazies on the other side. The people who had no loved ones hurt, whose only connection to the bombings was that they watched it on TV, but who have a pathological need to hate and who are habituated to TV giving them their two minutes hate. People who would toss out the rule of law in their ardor to show their fellows they are the bestest at screeching their manufactured outrage. Folks who turn Dzhokhar's required answers to the Judge's required questions into "shouting, 'not guilty over and over" so they can pretend their pathology is justified. People who twist Dzhokhar waving at his sisters into blowing kisses to his fangirls so they can rationalize their own malevolence as legitimate.

On the other hand, blind vengeance and dogpiling are understandable, and very human, failures of decency. Fanclubbing isn't so understandable; perhaps it's a reaction formation from the bloodlust.

Except one of the most iconic pictures, when uncropped, is a full body shot of Jeff Bauman's mutilation plus Carlos Arredondo holding Jeff's femoral artery shut. The optimist in me would want Dzhokhar to become rehabilitated and become some kind of inspirational champion for anti-terrorism, because the dude actually seemed to be completely normal before Tamerlan got ahold of him, but the realist in me remembers that he purposely placed that bomb directly behind a young boy.

I have definitely seen a couple people in the anti-Jahar-fandom fandom who fit this bill. There's one troll on the Tumblr side who regularly posts suicide bomber "religion of peace" photo memes on the tags. And there's a certain nasty edge of misogyny in a lot of the criticism. They're 90% female, yeah, but I'm not sure how that's a "so there". And the jingoists. Dear god, the jingoists.

EDIT: Back in May a meme was going around with pictures of Arredondo circled (in red, in mspaint, of course) asking if anyone else has noticed this weird guy in the hat "holding a Russian flag" and pointing out how he shows up in a lot of pictures. Does anyone else think he's with Russian intelligence? "Why hasn't anyone wondered who that guy was and what he was doing?" the poster asked. "Very suspicious!" The most nuts thing about this line of thought, to me, is that the CIA/Illuminati would hire a bunch of actors to fake a bomb instead of just, you know, setting off a bomb. There would be fewer points of failure in the scheme and it would be much more convincing. It's not like they specifically need a guy to lose his legs to fulfill whatever their goal is supposed to be.
