Also Sex Weirdo is the best name for a movie -- heck, anything really!

So, Gender Hipster has covered a lot of different kinds of genderfuckery related movies - but never movies about historical female bodied types who live as male. So why not knock two of them over at the same time? 1993's little known independent film The Ballad of Little Jo versus the Glenn Close led 2011 immediately forgotten flick Albert Nobbs.

I got my copy of "Election Cycle," Oancitizen's short film, and I thought it was… okay? It felt unfinished, like the idea needed another ten or twenty minutes to flesh out. Then again, considering the time constraints he was working under, it's only natural that it had an unfinished feeling.

Holy poo poo, it's been almost two months of Game Grumps doing nothing but Mario Sunshine and Kirby. Like yeah, they've had a couple of short series and one-offs, but it's getting ridiculous with how day in day out one episode of SMS, one episode of Kirby, or maybe one one-off.

To be honest, I actually prefer the current structure of having a couple of main series with a few one-offs and smaller series spliced in between. I feel like this format feels more focused allows them to get a lot more mileage out of each game, whereas I feel the old one had them dropping too many games prematurely after just a few episodes. Though to be fair, part of the issue lies with Sunshine and Epic Yarn both being significantly longer games than the other ones played since Danny started, leading to heightened exposure in between their shorter series like Skyblazer and Strider. achillesforever6 posted:Also NC did a video about the Big Lebowski and whether it was a "masterpiece" or not. Well this was better than I expected it to be. It's a lot of interesting points that I haven't really thought about much when I think about why I like the Big Lebowski so much. It's not one of those movies that I think is the best, or the most artistically accomplished - it's a very good character piece and it's well made - but importantly, it's incredibly rewatchable and has a lot of different layers. The interesting thing about the Big Lebowski is that..for some reason, I wasn't annoyed about the fact that it's a movie that ends up being about nothing and going nowhere. Unlike Burn after Reading, or a A Serious Man, for some reason, I didn't even notice that when I watched it, or when I rewatched it. I suppose there's a lot more joy in seeing the characters interact than there is in those other two movies, where I felt an unsatisfying frustration at their conclusion. I must admit it was a tad annoying that the start of the video was just NC watching another TGWTG contributor's show. It went on a fair bit longer than I thought it was necessary. What do people think about Renegade Cut? I realise it's not too fair to judge off one movie, but I watched the one on black and white movies, and I felt this incredibly smug tone which jarred with the fact that he was making some interesting points. He just seemed to be saying "Watching films in black and white can be WAYYY BETTER", which..ok, I understand that he was trying to combat the idea that black and white films are inferior and boring - but at the same time, filming something for black and white is different to filming something in colour in the way it'll be lit, shots will be framed etc, and it's not as if converting an average colour film to black and white will necessarily work, much like how converting a photograph to black and white doesn't necessarily make it look more artistic and cool.

Renegade Cut has been tolerable lately, but most videos in the series just piss me off. I hadn't expected that when he started it because I actually liked Heart of Gaming. What a letdown. His video about Toy Story 3 was awful, and other times he just doesn't know what he's saying. I think I've talked about him here before... Ema Nymton posted:Every time I see a "Renegade Cut" I hear something vexingly stupid, and the latest is no different. It may be stupid to go back into a dangerous place to save your pet, but lots of people would do that in real life. Yeah, that's still true. Leon hasn't boiled my piss lately, but I still don't like him. I'll only watch his videos if the subject looks really interesting, because usually I just end up miffed and unhappy. His latest video about robot slavery in Star Wars is just annoying and you can smell the smug all over it. "I'm being controversial and deep by talking about slavery in the ever-beloved Star Wars franchise!" Nevermind the fact that the concept of mechanical beings in Science Fiction has always had tension with issues like individualism, humanity, slavery, conformity, etc. Wow, Leon, you sure are a genius that you could see this scandalous detail. But what pisses me off more are the teenage TGWTG commenters who actually do think Leon is really deep and intelligent. EDIT: V V V V Ah, I suppose you're right. When I was a teen I thought John Cleese was a wise sage with all the answers because he was into psychoanalysis. It's just a phase. Many people do stupid poo poo in their teenage years and idolize idiots or terrible people. I rather these people think a crappy smug internet critic is insightful and intelligent than read Atlas Shrugged and join the cult of Ayn Rand and become a selfish, terrible human being.
