Château Frontenac. A hotel built in the late 19th century in Quebec City. It resembles the Banff hotel because they were both owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway and both were designed by the same architect. The hotel was the location of the 1943 Quebec conference between the Brits, Canadians, and Americans where they discussed strategy for the war and initiated the planning of the invasion of Normandy. The tour goes through the room FDR stayed in during the conference and being in it is definitely a weird feeling. The hotel itself is incredibly beautiful.

I BELIEVE IN STUPID CONSPIRACY THEORIES

One of Goldman Sach's 27 Detroit warehouses that stores most of the world's aluminum. Multiple times a day, forklift drivers move the Aluminum from warehouse to warehouse in a scheme that costs consumers billions of dollars a year.

quote:

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. —Hundreds of millions of times a day, thirsty Americans open a can of soda, beer or juice. And every time they do it, they pay a fraction of a penny more because of a shrewd maneuver by Goldman Sachs and other financial players that ultimately costs consumers billions of dollars.

The story of how this works begins in 27 industrial warehouses in the Detroit area where a Goldman subsidiary stores customers’ aluminum. Each day, a fleet of trucks shuffles 1,500-pound bars of the metal among the warehouses. Two or three times a day, sometimes more, the drivers make the same circuits. They load in one warehouse. They unload in another. And then they do it again.

This industrial dance has been choreographed by Goldman to exploit pricing regulations set up by an overseas commodities exchange, an investigation by The New York Times has found. The back–and-forth lengthens the storage time. And that adds many millions a year to the coffers of Goldman, which owns the warehouses and charges rent to store the metal. It also increases prices paid by manufacturers and consumers across the country.

Tyler Clay, a forklift driver who worked at the Goldman warehouses until early this year, called the process “a merry-go-round of metal.”

Thankfully, deregulation has probably kept the complexity of these schemes down, passing savings directly to the consumer.

More of the Glorious Motherland's architecture: My old neighbourhood, St. James Town Toronto!

Highest population density in Canada - 17 - 25k people in 19 apartment towers in a 5km radius. Average Canadian population density is 3.75 persons per km2. One of the lowest average household incomes in Toronto ~ $22k PA. It was rezoned as a middle class neighbourhood in the 1960's and the city allowed high rise developers to build these huge ghastly towers for young singles. But all potential residents decided they were too ugly and moved to the suburbs instead. To cut their losses, the City bought the towers for public housing and it's one of the most ethnically diverse areas in the downtown area.

Across the street, and I mean literally across the street, is Rosedale. One of the richest areas of the city, average household income is $220,000 PA. Average house sale price in Rosedale in 2008 was over $1M.

Here are some single family homes from Rosedale!

Never change, Canada, never change Actually please change radically in the interest of equality except you won't because permanent residents can't vote and citizens vote against their interests.

There were several protests here in town after Clement Meric was killed, being from Brittany. I saw this in town and it made me pretty happy I live here. The top poster is an Antifa punk concert, the bottom line says "Rennes is red and black" and the bottom poster is in solidarity with Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, a leftist Lebanese militant imprisoned by France since the 1980s.

Brittany will not be a refuge for fascists.

Various t-shirts worn by Antifa at protests. The bottom-right one is against a large airport to be built in the east of Brittany that will kill all the other airports in the region.

A local Antifa protest a couple of years back.

And for architecturechat, this is the coolest modern building in my town, Les Horizons. A certain percentage of apartments (I don't know how many) are for low-income families.

And since I'm Brittanyposting, have a video of leftist Breton militants in the 70's planting a Breton flag on Notre Dame in Paris, and when the police gathered around to watch it get pulled down they spray painted buses to protest the trial of 11 members of the Breton Liberation Front.

Welcome to the University of Alaska Fairbanks Gruening Building. The main floor stairs exited near an entrance to the building and have (had? There isn't an attractive building on that whole campus, but along the continuum of "bad" to "good", it's a safe bet that the better the building, the more oil money went into it.
