Keep your harness until you've got a new one. The new ones mostly come labelled, where as if you rip out the old one, instead of remove one / place one with the new cables, you may find yourself spending ages trying to hook everything back up. The monitors in those from what I've heard are pretty nice, but of course transport is a prick. Monitors nearly always sell though, so you should have no troubles moving it.

To be perfectly honest I think if Krikzz is an rear end and is like "one or the other!" I'll probably go Fami. If I do that I'll buy a bunch of NES/Fami converters from him for the NES people. I may have said that and was slightly wrong. It will fit, but you have to break some of the retaining pegs inside the NES cart. You will also have to cut a slot where the microSD slot is (on the side), while the NES-sized one uses a full-size SD card along the top. Incidentally, has anyone managed to successfully tap N8 expansion audio using thie external NES mod? http://callanbrown.com/index.php/castlevania-iii-with-full-famicom-audio ? I really want a "works in an unmodded NES" solution if it can be done.

I don't know why I haven't seen this mentioned in this thread yet, but I just found it myself. http://enio.chykn.com/wiki/index.php/ENIO_EXP_Board is a board that plugs straight into the expansion slot on the NES, which actually enables the expansion audio with no further modifications. It can be purchased from http://nintendorepairhut.com/accessories/nintendonesaccessories.html I don't know why people aren't making a big deal of this. $20 and all you have to do is remove the little plastic cover from the expansion slot, and make a minor modification to the case to expose the NES board, and it just plugs right in. No soldering. That seems amazing.

A Super Famicom can easily be replaced by a regular Super Nintendo. Other systems may have similarly easier options than getting their Japanese counterpart. The Famicom, however, is both a key piece of gaming history and has several vital differences from the NES. You should want one.

Speaking of the N8, I re-visited it not booting on my Famicom and made a very odd discovery. I rolled back to OS version s3m5 and it worked. I have two Famicom N8s that behave identically, and the new OSes work fine on my NES. Something added in OS v4 makes it crash on boot. Weirdest drat thing. Anyone care to guess what the problem could be? Here are the patch notes: nesos-v4 04.07.2013 1)mmc3 mapper was improved 2)New mappers implemented: 40, 133, 99, 151 3)OS allow to load gg cheats from text file. Cheats should be written in XXXX-XXXX format. Few codes can be listed in column, or separated by comma in the line 4)Apu initialization before than run the game 5)Naming convention is changed. From now name contains only OS version, without mappers version I'm guessing it has something to do with note #4. The AV mod is bog-standard. There are two audio outs but they're both wired to the same place, no extra chips or anything like that I don't think. The video is handled by a tiny board with caps and resistors on it (a breakout box for the AV mod, yes I do have jailbars). EDIT I just killed a room full of Pols Voice in Zelda 1 using the power of my own voice. VV I'm the only one who seems to have been affected by it, oddly enough. univbee fucked around with this message at 02:42 on Oct 17, 2013 |

I doubt it's the video mod now that I give it another look, it's literally pulling a signal one way from the mainboard, I don't think it can return and gently caress anything up. This reeks of a software issue. It's hard to tell with any certainty because the board is tucked away and hard to see, but it looks similar to this, with the hardware being on an extra little board instead of straight on the motherboard: http://jpx72.detailne.sk/modd_files/fc/avmod.htm
