I'm in love with mini/micro builds, which is why even though they are a tad pricey for what you get, I love the planet series. It's also why even though it's almost all Clone Wars poo poo, I still want to get this years Advent Calendar...must...resist... Fake edit: Ooh, the AT-ST planet is back in stock on on sale since it's ending soon, I should pick that up. One of the few I don't have. Also, it's clear that the planets are meant to be Christmas tree ornaments. And the rest of the year...ugg...oh well. vv

After complaining about the prices I was in town today and the first store I was in had them for 8 each, so I picked up the tie bomber. Next store of course had them all for 6 so I now have the ones I wanted from series 3/4, namel the snowspeeder, b-wing, assault ship, and tie bomber. And all this for what I would have paid for two a couple of weeks ago.

If I'm not mistaken, it looks like there's a new and very interesting piece being used in some of the new Ninjago sets. We just got some into our store today and that's when I first noticed them. Here's an image from Brickset that shows the piece: Look at the rear of the vehicle and note the 1x4 brick that seems to be connected to another 1x4 by those two struts so it forms a 45 degree angle. Something tells me this piece will be in high demand for MOCs, I know I want to get my hands on a few!

It seems smaller than 45 degrees, if you eyeball with the mirrored piece on the other side they don't seem to make an equilateral triangle. I want to use one to build the front end of a spaceship though, get some cool wing angles going. When will they put it out in light grey?

Looks like some kind of A-frame plate? It will be useful instead of using the 2x1 hinge piece if you want that specific angle. The new technic snowmobile has a few new pieces it seems including a beam 'dogbone' and a new knuckle for attaching to steering/wheel hubs compared to the old one which went around beams.

That's because equilaterals are 60 degrees in each corner. Right triangles are 45-45-90. Edit: I'll try to get my hands on one of the pieces when we build the sets for store displays, so I can inspect it more closely.

How would you even keep a UCS Nebulon B together? poo poo that big and imbalanced only works in space. I'd like an A-wing, since I have drooled over the large detailed toy on the back of a Lucasarts jewel case insert. Does anyone have 8099, the midi-scale Star Destroyer? Is it fun/worth ~$55?

If it's a UCS, it could probably be a mounted-only thing, with the mounts at either end taking the stress off the narrow central part.

Bit of both, depending on the set.

Just won a 55lb lot of random bricks, no big sets jumped out at me - going to have some sorting and cleaning to do, but the nieces and nephews are going to be in heaven (not to mention me having raw material for quite a lot of messing about). I don't post much in this thread, but love the group and am continually reassured that even if it's weird to be surrounded by hundreds of thousands of bricks, there are lots of others like me.

I think it would take longer to organize all those parts after making an amazing huge pile then building the sets themselves. I can't even imagine how long it would take me to build all of those sets, let alone how sore my thumbs/index fingers would be after doing it. Shame on them as well for no technic sets I can see!

I got Bag End and that Friends cruise ship. I have to say I expected bilbo's house to be roomier. It comes with a ton of nice green pieces though. Also the cruise ship is insane, if you can only get to buy one friends set, get it.

It's a cute little set, though, and my daughter love playing with it. We managed to get the Friends boat for $55 or so at TRU for her as well. That one's for Christmas, though, so I can't really comment til then, but the box just floored me. I never really looked at it before, but it looks awesome. The lack of articulation on the figs still really bothers me, though.

Building Orthanc. The Ent is cooler than I expected; I'm hanging the one guy with the rope-thing from his head & hand which makes it a great action scene. Started the tower itself, kinda surprised at how thin the base level is, I expected it to be wider. Especially given that there are like 7 more floors above it, which will probably make it seem even taller.

This is an across the board trend to have smaller but more dense and detailed models. It's really noticeable in Star Wars where they're on the third iteration of some vehicles. I think it's a good thing, though.
