th vwls hv scpd posted:I would really like to see more photos and know more about your two cars if you don't mind. No problem! The white one is a Toyota Celica GT4 WRC - it's a homologation special, which means it's one of 2,500 nominated cars to count towards the car being legal to race in the World Rally Championship for 1994 when the ST205 replaced the ST185R as Toyota's rally car. AWD, Turbo, 255ish HP from a 2.0l 3SGTE although there's some conjecture about what these engines actually put out stock - some dyno figures suggest they have a better quality block than a regular ST205. There's also some neat poo poo like an intercooler spray kit and an anti-lag system plumbed in but not working. They can both be activated with a lot of work, Wbut only exist so that the rally car could have them. The red one is a Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 2 Final Edition. By 1995, the Ford Escort Cosworth, Celica GT4 and Subaru Impreza had the measure of the Lancia after six consecutive years of manufacturer's titles in the World Rally Championship. People were buying the cheaper AWD Japanese cars instead of the more expensive Lancia, and with the company not much money on them (they were over-engineered to hell and back) they pulled the plug on them. The last 250 of them were modified as 'Final Editions' and sold almost exclusively in Japan. They come with push-button starts, navigator's footrests and the engine runs at 260 odd HP. Again, AWD, turbo. There's a really good Evo Drive diary on the Evo 2 on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PI--8IH5XJw As a side note, my father used to work for the company that imported these and the Ferraris into NZ back in the 80s. He was given an earlier model, the HF Integrale, to take home for a couple of nights. It simply wouldn't let go of the road, and ever since he's been in love with them. So yea, make sure you pass on your love of cars to your kids so your household can one day be over-run by Group A road cars.

G-Mach posted:I'm guessing you bought them from a japanese auction then? Anything over $400 imported in NZ attracts our local goods and services tax, which blows. But yea, both through auction - the Toyota had been at a dealership so I was familiar with their expected price and got decent photos of the car from Goo Net. The Lancia just honestly popped up and I called the guy who got the Celica to see what he could do for us. In the end he got it through negotiating with the seller.

I bet this guy never gets pulled over. Actually, he probably doesn't -- driver was a white kid in an oilfield-company work jacket. But he has questionable taste in stickers, anyway. (I blanked the tag because it wasn't an amusing vanity plate, and not sure of the ethics of posting plates.)

anonumos posted:I managed to do this in my 95 Jeep Cherokee. I don't know if it's supposed to be possible, but I shifted the automatic transmission into reverse or something. Locked up the tires at about 65 mph on the highway and scared the ever-loving poo poo out of myself. I shoved it back into neutral and coasted to the shoulder. To this day I don't know what damage it did, but that truck ran several more weeks before I traded it in (presumably the dealer scrapped it; the salesman told me his mechanic said the engine was blown - I could have sworn it was the transmission). I have an old Cheetah Turbo action forward pattern manual valve body on my TF727. This means that 3rd gear is right next to neutral, and since you have to press the thumb button to shift there's nothing stopping you from sliding past 3rd and go into neutral, especially when you're accelerating fast and might get a little sloppy with the shifts (it doesn't help that the shift linkage on a 1972 Mopar isn't exactly precise), and if you're really enthusiastic you can actually pass N and go into R while going forward. I told my friend this right before he was allowed to drive my car. Imagine sitting in the passenger seat of your car, the guy driving it really stomping down on the gas pedal, going about 55-60 mph, and then suddenly the tach is pegged to the top before Mr Hamfist goes into reverse and basically blows the trans. Good times.

I was gonna say the engine sucked too, but apparently it has the same 2.0 Duratec that was top-of-the-line in the Euro 2nd gen (though with ~10 less HP). Apparently it was a good bit lighter too, all models around 2,600 lb vs. 2,700-3,500 for the Euro variants. I'd still never take one over a 3rd or Zetec 1st gen, but there you are.

It still isn't all that impressive nor as fast as it looked from the outside (any holy poo poo that plastic interior and soup-stirring-reminiscent 5-speed).
