The ugliness wasn't just skin deep though, he also really, really loving loved slavery and  states rights to have a slave-based economy.He ended up resigning the vice-presidency due to some combination of falling out with Andrew Jackson over the whole states rights thing, his wife being really mean to another cabinet member's wife and just being a massive dick generally.
