Watching that hotel scene, it suddenly struck me that the plot of Gundam Seed Destiny would... make more sense? I'm not sure if that's the right way to put it. It'd be fitting, I guess, to cross it over with Metal Wolf Chaos, and replace Copeland with RICHARD! He'd fit right in with the rest of Logos, and Copeland is a particularly bland side character.

I'm actually surprised the start of the Gravion scenario didn't use as much of the crossover material as I thought it would. I mean, you could vaguely argue it does, but you could have the entirety of the game before it not have happened and it would still roughly work because barring Beauty and Reika, its how it started series proper. Though I suppose Sandman might not have had a chance to adapt his speech in time, and god knows you do not come between this man and his speeches...

I'm more amazed that Z actually acknowledged President Copeland's existence. Hell, I forgot he even exists! :v: But then, that's (one of) the problems with SEED/Destiny that got carried over to SRW. Unless you're either Djibril or Azrael, pretty EVERYONE from the Cosmic Era Earth Federation government outside of named (military) characters are blank faces/off-screen mentions in SRW. Flay's father George Allster, (i.e., Copeland's predecessor) is never seen in Alpha 3, J, or W, despite being referenced a few times. Hell, you SEE the ship he's on in Alpha 3 get blown up, but Allster never gets a portrait; J and W just straight up kill him off-screen. Copeland's lucky that Z stopped for a second and actually GAVE him a portrait instead of making him President Generic McRedShirt.

I just realized, but if you think about it, the Earth Alliance is worse than Space Hitler.

Following the Ghiren's greed thread I learned about the UC backstory, where after a week of fighting with nukes being thrown around willy nilly the Feds and Zeon signed a deal to not use nukes or colony drops since half of humanity was dead at that point. Girhen, the head of Zeon at the time, is space Hitler, pretty much literally.

The only reason the Alliance didn't keep nuking until every space colony and neutral nation was so much radioactive dust was due to N-Jammers deing deployed.

To be fair Ghiren would have done that if he was in absolute power too but he technically had to answer to his dad. He spent a good chunk of his free time trying to find new methods of mass murder instead which is how we get Solar Ray. Ghiren only gets full power after Garma dies and Dewgin basically falls into a massive depression because the least-lovely Zabi is gone leaving only Space Hitler and Slightly Better Than Space Hitler as potential replacements.

Degwin even tries to talk peace with General Revil. Which is, y'know, why he's out there when his own son decides to shoot him with a giant solar beam. He literally death rays peace talks. Peace talks including his own side.

Basically what I'm saying is that Gundam villains series-wide are total shits. The Zabis murdered several billion (with a B) people and were only stopped because a few of them were slightly less shitheady. Which of course made them murder each other in response. It almost makes the Titans look sympathetic.

That's not exactly correct. They only nuked one colony at first, because they weren't completely taken over by idiotic genocidal madmen at that point, and were simply trying to scare the coordinators back in line. Constructing those colonies was a pretty significant investment, after all, and the resources they contained were worth way too much. Would they have nuked more colonies after their first try had the opposite effect they intended? Possibly. ZAFT didn't let them get close enough again until the very end of the war, at which point things had escalated a lot, and many of the moderates in the Alliance were killed off in the meantime, so the extremists were able to do whatever they wanted.

Not that I'm saying they weren't evil regardless. On at least two occasions they used super-weapons on their own troops, though on both occasions they were already losing and took out many more of their enemies. I'm just saying, in SEED they weren't stupid about it, unlike in Destiny. But yeah, I guess I have to agree that they're more evil than Hitler.

Also, the only completely neutral nation the Alliance attacked was Orb. They made war on other Earth nations, most notably the United States of South America, but they had sided with PLANT, at least economically.

So yeah, what you wrote was more or less spot-on, since Dozle obviously isn't a good candidate for leadership.

Dozel was a good family man but he was also a gigantic warmonger who fuckin' loved him some fighting. He's the dude Amuro saw the giant evil demonic spirit behind even. Don't like it? well...

Chapter 6: The Incarnation of the God of Gravity

Alex Smith is among the soldiers deployed to intercept the invaders...

but the squad is destroyed almost instantly and only he survives to eject.

Quinstein and Tsukikage are shocked by the arrival of yet more new aliens, and according to Sandman, those are indeed the Zeravire.

Kappei arrives in the Zambird; his grandpa told him to see what was going on, but it looks like a miss. "Fool!" rumbles Heizaemon. They may not be the Zeravire, but they still threaten the Earth, and it's their duty to fight them!

The Dizer Team, of course, is also here to help, as are the Glory Star, who Denzel has decided would be more efficient flying in tight formation. By formation, of course, we mean Z's signature Formation system, in which a leader fights alongside two squadmates. Setsuko's been trained in formation maneuvers, of course.

Meanwhile, Toga is handing Eiji some new clothes and pushing him into some machine...

And we've hit objective for this stage, beat all the enemies in only two turns!

But, of course, there's something else here we need to look at first. Our first mission with squads. The Tri-Squad system is a signature part of Super Robot Wars Z. Squads, in general, are a way to have the large casts that a massive crossover of stories that Super Robot Wars requires while still keeping the number of playable units per stage a sane number. Each squad counts as a single playable unit in the stage. A squad consists of the squad leader and his or her support units. You can switch who the leader is ay any time, and with the character as a leader the squad gets their Squad Leader Bonus. There are three different formations a squad can take.

You select this option from the menu to rearrange the squad, selecting formation and leader.

The first formation is the Tri Formation. In the Tri-Formation only the Squad Leader attacks normally. However, being in Tri-Formation allows the usage of Tri-Charge attacks. These attacks, have some unique properties, in general they're considered a combination attack, so their power is based off all three members combined, it also pierces barriers. Tri attacks are very powerful, but typically have low ammo count/high energy cost. One final bonus of the Tri Formation is that the squad support members get an extra 20% evasion.

Next is the Center Formation. In the Center Formation, the support members use the Platoon(PLA) attacks against the enemy Squad Leader when attacking. Their PLA attacks do only 50% of their normal damage though. The Squad Leader gets a 20% bonus to accuracy. Finally, if any squad member is equipped with a barrier the barrier is spread across the entire squad.

Finally, there's Wide Formation. In the Wide Formation the support members use their PLA attacks against the enemy support members, doing 80% of their normal damage. One defensive downside is that, unlike the other two formations, the support members can not use Support Defense to take a hit for the leader. On the other hand, the big defensive boon of Wide Formation is that the entire squad takes 50% less damage from ALL Attacks and Tri Attacks.

That's the basics of the Tri-Squad system, since we're still only attacking single target enemies, I select Center Formation. I make Setsuko the leader because her Squad Leader bonus is really good, especially since Glory Star's PLA attacks are ranged.

One more thing about PLA attacks, it doesn't matter if they're normally not Post-Movement like the Virgola's are, they'll still be used by the support members.

Still, that's enough, it's time to move down to face the Zeravire!

Nothing else happens the first turn, so they just move up and start targeting our guys.

: They're obviously using technology beyond what this Earth has...
: Aliens again.. and they're trying to invade Earth!

And Duke Fleed pulls off a surprise dodge! If it isn't obvious, these things are kind of weak.

The next one targets Zambird.

: They aren't the Gaizock!
: But I'm sick of sitting around at the bottom of the ocean! I gotta move!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjwXH_G72x4

Then every other enemy that can get in goes for Kappei.

A couple of the smaller Zeravires blast through the formation, towards the hotel - and the evacuation is incomplete!

Then a ship rises out of the river, and Sandman shouts: "Fellows of the Gran Knights, go forth!"

The ship launches what looks like jets, a tank, and a robot - what Sandman calls the Gran Knights, "our only hope".

Eiji's found his way into one of the jets somehow and is not happy about it. Runa snaps that if he just doesn't touch anything, they'll handle his machine. "Pipe down! Be more like Toga."

Toga is in the machine known as the Gran Kaiser, and he's suddenly a different boy. Coldly, he orders the two jets - the G-Striker and G-Attacker - to defend the airspace over the hotel, and the G-Driller, with Runa and Eina in it, to intercept the enemies to the north. Mizuki tells Eiji to follow her lead.

Finally, Raven is pulling the Gran Fortress out of combat, leaving Toga to defend against the approaching forces.

On our end, we've got the remaining Zeravires to clean up while Toga holds the fort.

Right, Toga can handle those two.

One was already weakened, so we target the one at full health.

Super-Heavy God Gravion
Toga Tenkuuji - Gran Kaiser
Voiced by Jun Fukuyama (Japanese), Greg Ayres (English)

Skills:
* Counter (Level 2) - On the enemy phase, will sometimes attack before the enemy. Activation rate is determined by the skill stat.
* Will +(Hit) - The pilot gains 1 point of Will whenever they successfully hit an enemy.
* Predict - At 130 Will, hit, evasion and critical hit rate increase.

Spirit Commands
* Focus(15) - Increases hit and evasion rates by 30%

Squad Leader Bonus
*+10% Attack power during the Player Phase

It should be obvious, but Gran Kaiser is not the unit you'll be using Toga for. Let's put off full analysis until then.

I try to show off the power of Virgola 3's Tri Attack, which is pretty good, being post movement with 3 ammo.

: A-another strange enemy...
: This is no time to freak out, Setsuko! We've got alien invaders!
: He's right! If the Alliance can't handle these things, it's up to us!
: Of course! I'll fight as hard as I can!

Buttt I fail to notice that it has a B rank for Air, and is not near as powerful as it should be.

These things have pretty pathetic range, Setsuko was able to snipe it pretty easily at least.

Let's have Team Spazer finish this one off.

This is what squadmates doing PLA attacks look like. In all honesty, unless they get the kill I won't really bother to take screenshots of them. They're typically the least visually interesting attack a unit has.

Kappei took a beating last turn, so I use Guts to heal him.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REqtyd2nlu0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZrU7EbEraY
With the last full health one gone, the rest kill themselves on the enemy phase, thank you counter attacks!

Another sweet victory.

Now that the city is safe, we'd better jet before things get awkward.

The Gran Divas, as they're collectively called, report success on their fronts - even Eiji managed to pull his own weight.

Unfortunately, we've got more trouble - including one that's much bigger! It's probably what passes for their leader.

Toga charges in, but the Gran Kaiser can't put a scratch on it.

The shadowy man asks if Sandman needs his help. "Your sun isn't ready yet," says Sandman. "And if I lose you here, we have little hope in the battles to come." Who is this man? Is he the friend Sandman mentioned, wonders Fitzgerald?

The Gran Knights will have to play their last card...

"Fellows of the Gran Knights, combine!"

...he says, but Eiji has no idea what's going on.

The lead Zeravire moves for him...

But a third jet swoops in to save him. Sandman says this is the G-Shadow, and with all five machines together, they can finally...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smYplf0B0oE

do this! Sandman names it "the final resort of Earthgertz, the spear and shield of Earth - God Gravion, master of gravity. Humanity's only hope, wielding power and beauty together."

Eiji is still very confused, but that's okay - the others tell him Toga's in control now. Sandman warns them that there's a drawback, though - the Divas can only withstand such a concentration of gravitons, and it'll take three minutes for it to build to that point. Once they reach their limit, God Gravion's combination will release automatically, and they won't be able to join again without returning to their base. To Toga, that just means he has to destroy that Zeravire within three minutes!

But who's in the G-Shadow? Mizuki has her suspicions - could it be Ayaka?

As for our little crew, we'll keep the others off of Gravion so they can focus on the leader. Kappei wants to see how cool the combined robot can be - and so does Duke, who can clearly see that Zambo Ace and the combiner are both not of Earthly origin.

So the objective is simple. Defeat the Zeravire boss within three turns. God Gravion can do this by itself, so the other guys will handle clean up.

It helps, of course, that the others were kind of thrown into the middle of it.

All this being shot at is shooting Kappei's Will up, pity it's just the Zambird for now.

I keep thinking I'm going to be able to show off Support Defending in Squads, but Setsuko keep dodging 60% hit chances.

Everyone keeps swarming Kappei.

Hey here we go! Toby bravely taking the hit for Setsuko.

Back up here, the Zeravire aims for Gravion.

: Toga, we're all set here! Go nuts!
: Hey, come on! At least tell me what this thing is first!
: Will you shut up about that already? I'll fill you in afterwards, so just do your job now!
: I'd listen to her, Eiji. We have to take that thing down first.
: F-fine! I'm not gonna die here, then!
: At your leisure, Master Toga!
: Roger.
:What's his deal, anyway? He gets in his robot and suddenly he's a rock.
: (And there's the pilot of the G-Shadow too. Who is that?)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJ20nzG5BGk

OK now that it's our turn, let's take a look at God Gravion.

* Predict - At 130 Will, hit, evasion and critical hit rate increase.

Spirit Commands(Toga)
* Focus(15) - Increases hit and evasion rates by 30%

Spirit Commands(Eiji)
*Accel(20) - The Caster's squad gains a one use +2 to movement.

Spirit Commands(Runa)
* Strike(20) - The caster will have 100% Hit rate for that turn.
* Luck(40) - The Caster's Squad will gain double the amount of money from a defeated enemy, the effect fades after the next attack even if an enemy is not killed.

Spirit Commands(Mizuki)
* Scan(1) - Reveals an enemy squad's stats without having to fight them

Spirit Commands(Eina)
*Gain(20) - The caster's squad will gain double the Experience Points from the next attack

Spirit Commands(???)
*Guard(30) - The caster takes 1/4 damage from all attacks for one turn.
* Mercy(10) - If the pilot's skill stat is higher then the enemy's, then an attack that would normally defeat the enemy leaves them alive with 10 HP.

Squad Leader Bonus
*+10% Attack power during the Player Phase

God Gravion is absurd. On a basic level it's about as strong as Grendizer, more HP but less armor and an L size. However... It. Has. Six. Pilots. Once its pilots level up it'll just be able to blast through things. However, there's a catch. That three minute limit mentioned? That isn't just a plot excuse for this stage. Toga will deploy in the Gran Kaiser. Once he hits 130 Will however, a new option will appear in his menu. With it the Gran Kaiser can become the God Gravion, but only for three turns. Still, three turns is a long time in this game.

As a bit of extra info, when a skill is currently active on a character, it will flash green on their status screen.

Enough about that for now though, let's continue the process of wiping these mooks out.

This lets Toby not only gain a level of Support Defense, but also learn new Spirit command!

*Accel(15) - The Caster's squad gains a one use +2 to movement.

Kappei's out of SP for Guts, so he gets repaired instead because I just know a bunch of them are going to target him

I then promptly move him, forgetting to attack. :downs:

Finally, I move Toga a square back, God Gravion's best attack has a range of 2-6, so it can't be used against enemies right in its face. Since it's not post-movement, I need to set up its use the turn beforehand.

Onto the enemy phase!

Huh they attacked Team Spazer Maria is naturally good at counterattacking, but the Drill Spazer was just barely not enough. But don't worry, I have plans for her.

Kappei finishes that one off.

This one suicides against Grendizer, barely scratching its paint job.

Same here with Setsuko.

I could finish it off this turn, but I have one left and there's still some enemies I can get cash from.

Almost done.

Move Glory Star up to take out this one.

I did not know Zambo Ace's rifle attack had a ground to air animation until just now.

Eina casts Gain, because why not?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLM-v_7d0r4

Look at all that sweet EXP.

Toga gets a new Spirit Command to boot!

*Spirit(20) - Increases the caster's Will by 10

Kappei's impressed by the robot, but Denzel says it's dangerous. Won't the army come for it?

Looks like they just did, or at least they're there for us. Sandman quickly says that this whole thing is the force of resistance he has prepared against the invaders, with God Gravion at its center. The events of the past few days have been a demonstration of their power, but soon, he'll make it official.

Gibril realizes that he invited all these figures here to orchestrate this and take control of the whole thing for himself. Well played, Sandman. But Gibril will only step up his recon efforts from here on out, and it's understandable why - who is this Klein Sandman?

Duke suggests we play along with Sandman; it'd be better than staying on the run. Besides, Denzel wants to know more about that blue machine. Kappei is glad poo poo finally isn't boring, and Eiji wants to know what Sandman knows about Ayaka.

Eiji is unceremoniously dumped out of his jet into San Germain Castle's sweet control room (?!), where a trio of young maids starts undressing him. I'm not going to get too deep into this. Mizuki, Runa, and Eina show up and introduce themselves.

So do Toga, back to his weird self, and Sandman. Eiji promptly accuses Sandman of forging a letter from his sister, Ayaka. "Where's Ayaka? Give me Ayaka back!"

Raven punches him.

But Sandman admits to it. Earthgertz, the organization dedicated to fighting the Zeravire threat, needed someone to pilot the G Attacker, and Eiji's strong concentration of something called the "G Factor" fits the bill. The G Factor, to make a long story short, is what enables human bodies to withstand high concentrations of gravitons, and it's necessary for anyone who fights with Gravion. Ayaka had it too, but Sandman's chosen Eiji for the G Attacker. That's why he forged that letter to draw Eiji to his castle. "It was not a beautiful act," he says. "For that, I apologize deeply."

"You're lying!" yells Eiji. He and Ayaka exchanged letters and she never said anything about any of this. Raven coolly says that everyone has their secrets. Mizuki admits the bigger problem: Ayaka was here, but she's missing. She mysteriously vanished during exercises and hasn't been seen since. They're worried about her too, in fact. Sandman invites Eiji to stay in the castle and investigate as he wishes; Toga pulls him, protesting, away to give him a tour.

With Eiji no longer making noise, the next question becomes the G-Shadow. Unfortunately, Sandman quickly says he has to attend to the guests and excuses himself. Dammit! Raven says he trusts that Sandman knows what he's doing.

We do appreciate being attended to; Sandman first apologizes for putting us on the spot. Kappei in particular - yes, he knows Kappei. "I know your family, you see." He's looked into the visitors from another world as well. This guy clearly isn't just a rich magnate, so Kouji decides to cut the bullshit. "We're grateful for the help, but if you think you can take advantage of us, we'll have something to say about that."

"True," murmurs Sandman. "The whole world isn't out of my grasp right now."

There's an awkward pause.

"...but my fellows and I have only one desire," he continues. "To protect this world and all its people from the claws of darkness."

We can't really argue with that - he's built Earthgertz and Gravion (the first time our team's heard the name) just for that. He doesn't expect us to believe everything he says so quickly, but he does trust that we're trying to avoid being taken in by the Alliance. He can give us that, and he promises to do what he can to help Kappei and his family get back to Suruga safe and sound.

That doesn't help the rest of us who have no home in this universe, though. Sandman is willing to keep us as guests in his castle, but guests nonetheless. We have nowhere to go in this world.

Setsuko wonders if she has a place to go at all. Daisuke, meanwhile, is a "visitor" to this planet in more ways than one, and he suspects that Sandman is as well...

But for now, we should take up Sandman's hospitality and get some rest. It's been a long day.

First, let's check on on Sandman and a girl who calls him "Uncle" who he keeps in his castle - he says he's kept her for some years since she lost her memory. And he's so sorry for putting her through more hardship. Not at all, she says...

Well Sandman cameo's in Dancouga Nova so he's always just behind this. And Mazinger isn't so much "Kidnapped/false pretenses" Juzo totally intended to give Kouji Mazinger and let him do whatever the hell he wanted, he just kept getting killed before he could do so.

To be fair, as done as that is, its also subverted a number of times as well. Super Sentai organisations that have some kind of formal setup tend to have actually recruited their heroes, and in shows like GaoGaiGar, I remember Taiga admitting that maybe sending in armed goons to pick up Mamoru was perhaps not the best idea - though perhaps my memory is just shoddy.

For the most part though, its generally handwaved as having to play to the organisation's secrecy or whatever. Ie, if they get the heroes to them first without them knowing whats going on, then there's no chance for them to spill the beans to anyone without permission.

Ask me about being the best dad ever.
We’ve got a new addition to our team, so let’s pay him some attention:

Unit Upgrades:

The Turn A Gundam will, eventually, start chugging through EN much quicker than the GX, so that should be a priority upgrade to it; Mobility and Accuracy are always useful but keep in mind that Loran has SP Regen and will eventually learn Focus, so that lowers their priority.
Weapons are good, especially considering the Turn A lags a bit behind in power.

Unit Parts:

Loran’s evasion is still crap and he doesn’t know Focus, so Poe’s old Magnet Coating (マグネットコーティング) will cover that a bit with a +10 Mobility bonus.

Pilot Training:

Loran’s Leader Bonus gives him morale+ (dodge) so we don’t need to worry about that; considering his eventual habit of going through his EN quickly, EN Save will be a good fit and, to top things off, the usual Morale Limit Break.
He really doesn’t need Blocking so that can later be replaced with either Predict or Attack Again (only if you plan on giving a nice boost to his Skill stat, mind).

With that done, let’s move on to the prologue:

Location: Country of Inglessa – City of Nocis

We find our team surveying town, with Garrod trying to calm Loran down lest his nervous appearance draw attention to them.
Gauli reminds everyone that our mission is to take a look at the situation in the city and see how things are going after yesterday’s battle. They cannot fail but must take care not to draw attention to themselves as there’ll be no one to help them (or to recover their dead bodies) if they’re caught.

As they do this, Gain says Cotsett and Bello are taking a look at Loran’s mustachioed mobile suit, while Rand and Jiron are investigating the mountain it came from, so he tells Loran not to worry about those details now.
Loran asks what we intend to do now and Gainer confesses that we don’t know for sure – it’s not like we planned on coming here before being warped – and Gain figures it’s still best to talk to the mayor to figure out a way to leave the region.

Sara wonders if this means goodbye to Garrod.
He affirms, saying that, from the start, he’s been helping Gain in order to find a way back to Ameria. That said, he can't do anything just yet without inviting attack by the lunar forces.
Gauli is still amazed to have found that there are people living inside the Moon which are now descending back to Earth. Loran, inwardly, realizes that both the people of Inglessa and Galia have no idea that they even exist.
He remembers how it’s been only 15 years since the end of a full-scale war between the Earth and Space. It seems there’s a big gap of information to be filled.

The third Moon Race immigrant, Fran, runs into Loran and he’s very relieved that she’s safe.
Whispering, she asks him what’s gonna happen now, what with the Moon Race’s sudden attack yesterday. In fact, Gwen has just made the existence of the Moon Race, and the fact that they're not the enemy, public.
Gwen seems to have also revealed that he’s been engaged in secret negotiations with the moon for a while and that makes Loran glad, as it means Gwen doesn’t intend on fighting them.
Fran is a bit worried as, after last night's battle, he may be the only one in town who feels that way, though. This certainly is a very poor start for their homecoming.
Gain finally notices her and asks who she is. Fran quickly introduces herself as Loran’s friend but leaves right after to get back to her job as a reporter.
Sara is quite impressed that girl her age is a reporter and Gauli figures she must be quite busy after last night’s events.

It seems the Moon Race’s warship (and their main forces) has landed at a nearby hill and, even if Gain doesn’t know their full combat capabilities, it’s pretty drat clear the local Militia and its antiquated armaments won’t stand a chance in battle.
There seems to be only one way for this to end but Sara wonders about those other Mobile Suits that showed up in town, which Gain recognized as the models used by the United Nations Earth. While he doesn’t know WHY they’re doing it, he thinks the Government will intervene in this situation.

Gainer also knows of the UNE an organization that supports the Siberian Rail but hasn’t helped them keep the Exodus in check. Regardless, with Zora’s Innocent defeated, they’re now the strongest military power on Earth.
They seem to be actively seeking to expand their area of influence across the Earth, including being the owners of most Overmen being used by the Siberian Rail (though they rely solely on MSs for the rest of the world).
Gain figures their eventual goal is to unify the world under them in order to wage war against Space…and possibly eliminate anyone who will not play ball.

Hearing this talk about “war against space” makes Loran worried and wonders if they mean the Moon Race.
Gain isn’t sure seeing how he’s been living in Siberia for so long – information on the UNE isn’t very important there. Furthermore, he’d like to ask Loran something.
Despite living in this region, Loran seemed to have some knowledge regarding that unit he used before and, when he first met us, he showed that he knew about the Moon Race despite the fact that they hadn’t made their descent yet.

Gain doesn't get to ask anything, though, as Kihel interrupts the conversation, having been searching for Loran.
She’s heard from Sochie that it was him piloting the mustachioed machine but, when they returned to their home, they found out that their father didn’t survive the bombardment.
Loran apologizes but Kihel knows it wasn’t his fault and, besides, this isn’t the time to grieve for her father.
Gain interrupts and, after quickly apologizing for doing so, asks if she’s the Kihel Heim that Loran spoke of. Once she confirms, he introduces himself as a “wanderer” and she’s rightfully impressed that he’s so well-educated despite his appearance.

Judging from the way he’s dressed, Kihel assumes that he’s from outside Inglessa and Gain tells her that he and his companions hail from Galia. She’s never heard of such a place before and figures we were the ones who helped Loran yesterday.
Gain politely requests a meeting with Inglessa’s mayor in hopes we can be of service. Gainer realizes that Gain’s channeling his inner nobleman and Kihel agrees, figuring Gwen would find our help very useful.
She asks Loran to show us to Bostonia Castle.

Location: Town of Vicinity – Heim Mine

Our people make it to the mountain Loran pointed us to but the place is gon. All that’s left is a MASSIVE excavation ground which Rand assumes is due to the town’s mayor trying to find similar units to Loran’s.
They’re soon stopped by the dig’s prospector, Joseph, who tells them entry is forbidden. Rand quickly feigns ignorance, saying they “heard” there was an excavation going on and figured there was work to be had.

Joseph grumbles that Gwen is being hasty to be hiring people so quickly but seems to realize that we’re not from this area. Jiron gets a bit worried but Joseph calms him down, saying they need all the help they can get with this excavation.
You see, this entire area is filled with buried machines and they’ve been excavating it all – his job is to coordinate with the dig site’s foreman, Cid. After Joseph introduces himself, Rand does the same and points out he’s a repairman from Galia.
Joseph figures Cid will, indeed, have use for someone with his expertise and brings everyone along.

Inside we find Miashey and Sochie, who’s pestering Cid to see if he hasn’t found any other machines like yesterday’s and he tells her to be patient as the excavation has only just begun.
Miashey is also there and protests that the Moon Race will attack again and, if they can’t find any other machines quickly, they’ll just steamroll the entire place. Sochie gets a bit bummed at the prospect of all that happening again and, while Miashey apologizes for bringing it up, she says she’s done crying.
What’s important for her is to get revenge for her father and, to do that, she’ll need something like the White Doll – Miashey’s got her back and promises to fight alongside her.

Joseph comes in with Rand and everyone else and Cid eagerly asks for Rand’s help.
Rand gets all giddy with his, telling Chil that it’s been so very long since someone put this kind of trust in him as a repairman but Mel thinks he’s the only one to blame for his reputation. Sochie doesn’t care about the circumstances, though, and tells them to get digging right away.
Jiron tells her to leave it to us as we have someone perfect for the job.

That would be Fatman and Joseph’s jaw drops to the ground as he easily does a job that would’ve, normally, taken five people.
While Fatman’s doing his thing, Rand asks if they actually expect to find more mobile suits like the mustached mobile suit in this mountain, and Cid declares that the probability seems high. He and Joseph have certainly found plenty of mobile suits and mechanical giants in their journeys to other mountains in different countries.
This is the first time they've ever been allowed to dig here though, thanks to that taboo about the Promised Land inviting a calamity should it be disturbed. When Rand asks, Cid says he hasn’t found or heard of anything especially dangerous being buried here.

Still, Gwen wants some strong cards in hand while negotiating, so everyone who can lift a shovel is now digging away. Jiron wonders if the mecha they're looking for were used in previous wars, like the ones to the south.
Cid tells him that the Vultures' mecha are a scant fifteen years old, mostly created during the war that happened at the time. Anything buried in here, though, could be thousands of years old, and Rand wonders what the originators of this being the "Promised Land" had in mind.
The conversation is interrupted when Fatman finds something and Sochie can only hope that it’s a unit…

Back in Bostonia Castle, Gain formally offers the Iron Gear's services as mercenary help to Gwen, certain that he’s seen our skill during last night's battle.
Gain promises he won’t regret it but Gwen still has to wonder how a ship that large entered his country without anyone noticing. Silently, Gainer asks if this is really okay and Sara doesn’t like it, more interested in returning to Yapan’s Ceiling ASAP.

When Gauli asks, Gain says he wants to return to Siberia as well but a trip that big will require money and materials they don’t have, so they need something of a sponsor. In the end, he’s still an Exodus Contractor so the Moon Race/Militia fight doesn’t interest him.
His plan is for us to jump ship once we’re good to go and, while he’s not exactly proud of using Gwen, during an emergency, the adult thing to do is to take any chances that are presented.
Gain then starts searching for Garrod and Sara is sure that he was with them when they were coming to the castle…

Gwen asks if we’re done whispering and, once Gain asks, he confirms that he’s decided to accept our offer, citing the pressing need for more firepower.
His intention is to make use of our services until the Militia forces have been mechanized enough to fight on their own. Gain praises his wise decision but Gwen still has a few doubts concerning our strength and proposes a test to clear them up.

Gain asks if he wants us to get rid of the Moon Race forces that landed nearby but no, he still intends to negotiate with them. Instead, he wants us to send the UNE’s forces home, by whatever means necessary.
Inwardly, Gain realizes that Gwen is going to use us to keep his TRUE enemy suppressed for the time being.
Kihel soon enters the room and tells Gwen that the preparations are complete and with her is…

: Hmm...so that’s the sort of girl you like…

: Laura, in three days, you’ll be the star of our party. Until then, you will practice on how to behave like a lady.

Turns out the reason Garrod’s missing is because he ran into Enil, an old acquaintance from Fort Severn. He asks what the hell she’s doing here and wonders if she’s still chasing after him.
She finds it a bit funny that he’s accusing her of chasing him when he’s the one who suddenly vanished and appeared out of nowhere. He gives her that point but, regardless, she got in touch with him and said she had some big info to give him.

That she does and it’s the fact that his little lady-friend is in this town, kidnapped by the Frost brothers. She’s been following them ever since she learned Tifa had been taken and giving this bit of information is her way of apologizing for the grief she caused him before.
Garrod is certainly happy that she’s so close by and, inwardly, Enil is glad to see his happiness at the thought of being reunited with the girl…which is why she can’t stand it.
The fact remains that he rejected her in favor of Tifa and the only suitable punishment for that is death…

:eng101: Information Corner – Topic: Fort Severn :eng101:
An independent city in northern region of North Ameria, once led by mayor Nomoa Long. The city boasts a self-defense force centered around Carris Nautilus, an artificial Newtype of Nomoa's making. Nomoa (once known as Professor Dorat of the Space Revolutionary Army) constructed Fort Severn in secret for the development of the giant Newtype-specific Mobile Armor "Patoulia".
This mech was to be the centerpiece of "Operation Lilac", which the United Nations Earth Army averted during the Seventh Space War. Nomoa intended to use Carris as the Patoulia's pilot to get revenge, but the resolve and heroics of the Freeden’s crew brought Nomoa's ambitions to naught.
Since then, Carris has led the people to reorganize Fort Severn into a true independent city.

Mission 7 (Rand) – Goddess of the Moon

The big day arrives and, while Loran deploys the Turn A, the Frost Brothers are watching it all unfold with Gwen.
The preparations are all complete and all that’s left is to wait the arrival of the Diana Counter. Gwen is counting on “Laura”, saying her talents are key to make tonight’s party a success.
Loran nervously confirms and Michael informs Gwen of the Moon Race’s arrival.

Amongst the troop stands Harry, marveling at how the stars shine very differently on Earth than on the Moon – so beautiful, their homeland.
Poe quickly points out the mustachioed mobile suit to the commander, Phil.

Phil clearly sees that it’s of a different make than the UNE's forces and Poe wonders if it might be a pre-cataclysm model.
Phil doesn’t know but he figures one unit, regardless of origins, isn’t enough of a threat to change anything.
Laura gets in touch and welcomes them to the party and Harry is quickly surprised that the Mobile Suit’s pilot is such a young woman. Laura introduces herself and Harry Ord, Captain of Diana Soreil’s Royal Guard, does the same.

Gain quickly starts making sense of Gwen’s plan: by showing the White Doll's pilot to be a woman, he hopes to dumbfound them. Gainer wonders if that’ll really work and, while Gain isn’t sure, it seems to have had some effect in the gold unit’s pilot.
Sara can only angrily shake her head at these men. The Iron Gear is waiting outside of town just in case but, hopefully, things will keep going smoothly for the rest of the evening.
Gwen invites the lunar dignitaries inside the castle and Phil decides to oblige, if only to see how earthling manners are like.

This all suits Garrod just fine as the louder the party gets, the easier it’ll be for him to sneak around the castle.
“Hang on, Tifa…I’m coming to get you right now.”, he says.

Gwen makes formal introductions with Phil Ackerman, captain of the Diana Counter vanguard, and invites the lunar forces to dine before formal negotiations begin.
Phil wants an explanation for the attack the other night first, and Gwen explains it as an action undertaken by the United Nations Earth forces solely under their own discretion. Inglessan forces engaged as well out of self-preservation, but they bear no further grudge.
Phil doesn’t quite believe that since prior investigation had shown a relationship between Inglessa and the UNE – does he mean things are now different?
Indeed, Gwen says he has no connection with the UNE and intends to negotiate with the Moon Race on his own to the very end. Furthermore, he promises to show proof of his intentions eventually.
Phil certainly hopes he's telling the truth since Queen Diana didn't dispatch his forces here to start a war.
With that, Gwen officially kicks off the party.

Kihel sees that the party seems to have dispelled the tension that was present and Laura is sure everything will work out.
Harry comes over to talk and Laura says she’s very happy he remembered her name. He feels just as happy to be remembered by such a lovely lady.
He notices Kihel and she introduces herself as Gwen’s secretary – Harry is rather surprised, saying she’s the spitting image of a very dear person. Kihel is honored, and hopes she can meet this person someday.
Harry is sure that day will come and Laura, inwardly, sees how much faith Harry has in Diana; Harry decides to ask Laura out to dance and, while he moves to the dance floor, Kihel tells Loran to remember his dancing lessons.

Right then, though, the power runs out and Phil is quick to get on Gwen’s face to ask what the hell is going on.
Gwen tries his best to calm everyone down, saying he’ll have people locate the cause of the problem and fix it – he orders Laura to help out and get back to the White Doll.

Amidst the confusion inside the castle, Garrod has managed to grab Tifa and make a run for it – though, in his haste, he starts squeezing her hand a bit too hard.
She doesn’t mind, though, having been waiting for him to come back after all this time. Garrod figures she saw his return in a vision but, no, she just had faith in him.

Their moment is interrupted by a gunshot fired by Enil.
Garrod is confused as she was helping him before but her assistance only went as far as causing that blackout to cover his escape from the castle; her real goal here is to make him suffer.
She has him raise his hands and, if he tries anything, she has a bullet with Tifa’s name on it. Enil proclaims that this whole situation is his own doing for rejecting her.
She says their meeting each other was fate – they were made to each other and are the only people capable of dispelling each others' loneliness.

Despite her claims that they need each other, Garrod doesn’t care about any of that.
Garrod shouts back that he's not the same as he was back then, when he did everything without thinking - he's got a goal now, and that's protecting Tifa!
Enil plans on wrecking this goal of his but is stopped when a bullet knocks her gun out of her hand.

That would be Gain who says that, while it’s not his thing to shoot at beautiful women, he’s more than capable at aiming at her gun.
He tells Enil that he’s got his buddies coming here real soon and wonders if she still wants to keep going. She hadn’t been expecting Garrod to have help but, regardless, she says it’s over for him.
That’d be due to her telling the Frost Brothers everything about Garrod’s plans. Garrod wants to run away before they come over and asks for Gain’s help.
He says Tifa’s kidnappers are coming but, unfortunately, Gain realizes that it’s already too late.

Enil was by far the most competent living female MS pilot in X (kind of hard not to, she was the only one :v:), but she was still pretty firmly supporting character material.

One of the things SRW Z does really weirdly with Gundam X is play up relationships. Instead of just sticking with Tifa and Garrod like the show, Enil and a future character are thrown into the mix even though Enil gets over Garrod after Fort Severn and the other character never had any interest in him at all.

EDIT: V Man if "they get along" is grounds for a romantic relationship these days, I guess everyone in the Freeden was in love with Garrod.
