Forcing you to play an enjoyable, quick game system, with amazing models. I know how this can be confusing for some especially if you have previously played GW games.

Despite all I've spent on Infinity, with three armies and a lot of terrain, I think I'd only have like a 2000+pt 40k army. And a poo poo load of modes to assemble/paint.

On that note, is everyone here an escaped GW hobbyist? Seems that most people I know who play Infinity have quite bitter opinions from first hand experiences with their poo poo.

Most of us, yes. An encounter with a company that treats their customers as decent human beings, provides awesome, realistic and well-balanced rules, supports fan initiatives like army builders, AND has excellent minis does and Exterminatus-equivalent on the "GW hobby".

I WON THIS AMAZING AVATAR! I'M A WINNER! WOOOOO!
I still have my GW stuff but I have yet to wargame at all since I have moved to the US. I might get around to playing 40k but I will definitely start with Infinity and/or possibly Necromunda. I plan to start an Infinity night at my FLGS. I like the shorter play times of skirmish games, 40K can just drag on sometimes and people who play Apocalypse are just insane in my opinion.

Step 1: Bring every vehicle model you own.
Step 2: Make the entire board a parking lot.
Step 3: Take your 45 minute turn and roll buckets of dice.
Step 4: Stand around while you opponent(s) takes their 45 minute turn.
Step 5: Repeat steps 3 & 4 until 8 hours have passed, or you have lost the will to live.

Sounds amazing.

Give it to me straight...
I am making moves to sell all of my GW stuff, except for a few Warhammer Fantasy army books and the Warhammer mini-rulebook. The other fantasy stuff I have is mostly other manufacturers, so I will keep that for Kings of War. All my 40k stuff will be sold.

I am over GW now, they've lost me. I'd rather play a game with fun rules, really fantastic miniatures, and great conversion opportunities which don't require me to have to go online to 3rd party bits sellers to get stuff (I can use weapons from all different places now).

That and the fluff background is great, the miniatures are in a better scale (the guns are still massive, well at least the early sculpts), and I have some really awesome terrain ideas kicking around in my head. It's also just a lot more fun! My last game had me fluking a bunch of rolls against my opponents HMG, gunning him down in a messy spray of return fire from regular line Kazaks, and then getting a critical shot with my sniper. The shooting here is so much more effective! Also, I like having to roll D20's rather than D6's.

So, now I am putting together a Kazak themed Ariadna force, and using mini's from a few other suppliers to get the look I want. As I am not going to go to a tournament with them this will be fine. My Haqqislam force will be all Infinity stuff.

Essentially, why would I want to give money to a company which doesn't have my gaming interest at heart?

Yeah, I Haven't actually been into wargaming in ages, so was looking to get back into it when the last rendition of this thread caught my interest.

But my brother who had just been getting really into 40k and had a nice shiny new Dark Eldar force, sold off everything after I told him about Infinity. I guess Games Workshop more or less had a monopoly on this kinda stuff which allowed them to do whatever the gently caress they wanted, but now that there are more options (Warmachines etc.) people are beginning to sour on them.

I have already sold and thrown away all my GW stuff, apart from some Fantasy-stuff to make dnd characters for friends.

Warhams takes too long to prepare and play, and when I do play, I don't find it fun. Not so with infinity!

On a somewhat unrelated note, my Ragiks are always murdered almost instantly when they arrive on the board. :negative:

Maybe could be a little more dense. The bottom right bag is a bunch of brick walls that need assembling.

Also picked up a box of Myrmidons and Myrmidon officer. :shobon:

How good are the suggested starter armies, particularly Aleph?

Rebots are a solid fire support choice, slightly more fragile than a lot of Aleph stuff but capable of putting a lot of rounds into the enemy thanks to Total Reaction (a rule that lets you shoot reaction fire with your full 4-dice machine gun burst, not 1 dice).

The Sophotect is a great engineer/medic who has a high enough Willpower to not kill your own guys too often, probably one of the best specialists in the game thanks to having generally high stats, good resilience and good skill.

The Dasyu is a decent infiltrator type, the TO Camo makes them hard to hit and you can, if points allow, use them as a Forward Observer (so they can claim objectives). In the last campaign/league I played in I had a seriously charmed Dasyu who survived everything and pretty much never failed an infiltration roll.

If anything the only unit I don't regularly use in my armies is the Asura from the starter box, because at over 70 points for any loadout she's just under 1/3 of your entire force and that forces your hand a little in how you play. All told though that's a good list for getting the hang of the game and you'll use all the stuff in it as you expand your collection.

Thanks guys! I guess my next question would be where to go from here, but I think that'll depend on play-style.

Also, that force is strictly vanilla, only the Rebots can be used in the Steel Phalanx if you plan to go that way.

Sephyr
Aug 28, 2012
That's a solid start. You'll be using the Naga, the Deva, the Sophotect and the Asura a whole lot. The Rebots are also a good fit to many lists.

The Dasyu is a bit of a blank because while he is quite good, he is a bit pricey and people usually favor posthumans for his role.

I proxy the Dakinis that come there as devabots for the Deva: the deva+devabot combo is great for defending positions from the rear.

But yes, if you plan on going greek, you will be better served getting a box of myrmidons or the Steel Phalanx box, the myrm officer, Achilles and either Phoenix or Ajax.

I just impulsed Myrmidions+Officer. How are they as basic troops?

It doesn't feel right to kill an unarmed man... but I'll get over it.
They're pretty much the main reason why Aleph gets a "gently caress you, your guys do what?" reaction from a lot of people. Basic troops with ODD is a real kick in the balls against anyone without enough MSV 2, even if they do come at a slight premium. Makes them have to sneak up on you with chain rifles/flamethrowers unless they have fancy E/M weaponry to take it out at range. Meanwhile, you're moving your guys upfield under the cover of smoke grenades (which are easy to toss out in front of your myrmidons, given that you need a 16 to toss them within 3"), and kick into overdrive with impetuous orders once you get a wound on something, which isn't hard with chain rifles involved.

So I'm getting the Infinity itch again, but want to try something a bit different from my old Haqq light infantry specialists approach. If you’re playing in ITS events the ISS really has a hard time building well rounded lists if you’re intent on building around their heavy infantry instead of some of the other troops. In ISS you’re going to be limited to just the Wu Ming, Crane Agents, and Hsien. Only the Hsien makes a regular appearance in my lists outside of ISS.

I chose to play Yu Jing due to the numerous heavy infantry choices available. It’s not too hard to squeeze in 3 or 4 different HI into a list in vanilla, and still wind up with a balanced list. If heavy infantry are your main focus I’d go vanilla instead of a sectorial.

Apparently they're statted as Wildcats are but for PanO, which is really cool. It's actually a really good box too. I am amped to see the PanOified Wildcat profile.

E: Come to think of it. This boxset, add in Aquila HMG, Auxilia Boxset and maybe the Hexas MSR and you've a very loving sexy army to work with. Add in eventual Squalo resculpt and the Clausewitz Uhlan down the line and you've got what PanO players have wanted their faction to look like for a very, very long time.
