When it comes to SPECIAL builds, I wouldn't suggest going below 5 on PER or AGL, because you want to get them up to 6 with implants to take advantage of the perks that become available. LCK is fantastic, especially once you learn how to do high luck blackjack to clean out the casinos fast. I usually take END to at least 7, in order to get the implants for the other traits and the sub-dermal armor. INT matters less than one might expect from other Fallout games, but I usually start with it at 6 or 7; you at least want 4 for Comprehension, which I prefer to Educated (having both is overkill and a waste of a perk). STR is easier to boost than other stats, especially with decent survival letting you boost it by +2 or +3 with booze and steaks, and even up to +9 with large wasteland tequila. CHR can be safely dumped as long as you put points into speech.

I'm pretty sure it just depends on what part of the body you're grabbing. If you're trying to haul his entire torso, you're going to move much slower than, say, a small piece of his shattered head.

Animal Friend isn't as worthwhile a perk in New Vegas, due to the limited number of perks and the fact that the only animal of note it works on are nightstalkers, which you'll spend maybe 1% of the game fighting (or maybe 5% with OWB installed).

It also works on all geckos except the fire-breathers, helps save ammo, slows experience gain down a little, and lets you see the animals' cute idle animations. There are more useful perks, but I always take that one for the factor.

If you don't, you just get 100 chips and a completely worthless voucher every few days.

Implant GRX requires END 8, so if you want free Turbo 5 or 10 times a day, bear that in mind.

Having some trouble with Veronica's quest 'I could make you care'. I managed to brutally mess it up somehow. 1. I sent power to all of Vegas so Euclid's C-Finder doesn't proc the quest. 2. Keely convinced me to destroy the plant data. 3. I found the pulse gun and store it on one of my companions (ED-E) and upgraded him losing his inventory. I'm not sure how to sort this quest out and get her buff. Any suggestions? It's one of the few quests I have incomplete in my playthrough.

Even if you hadn't done everything the wrong way as hard as possible, that quest is notoriously glitchy, and I believe once you've selected which path you're pursuing you're locked in regardless. For Vault 22 though, you can actually save the data without betraying Keely, as doing Veronica's quest at the same time will give an extra dialogue option to explain your reasons to her. I mean, it sounds like you're too late and have to try it on a new game anyway, but hey, it beats doing the radioactive vault again.

Hey, out hunting a legendary creature? Base 1 Charisma + 1 implant + 2 Mentats + 5 Party Time Mentats + 1 (min) alcohol = max companion damage. Even without the short duration Party Time Mentats with 100 survival you can run around with 9 Charisma with Mentats + Alcohol + Moonshine (and get the DT with Cass while you're at it!). It's not that charisma is bad, it's that if you need it you can max it trivially and the perks that rely on it aren't that appealing (except for Animal Friend) derra fucked around with this message at 15:37 on Feb 13, 2014 |

It's a little more useful than that might indicate since fast-travel will heal you for the estimated travel time, so if you FT for a six hour span it gives you a more useful amount of HP. I think it's 12hp/ingame hour? If you combine it with the vault canteen (or even better, the canteen and Scorched Sierra armor) you do have a reasonable amount of passive regen outside of battles. In a fight, obviously, it's worthless. Psion fucked around with this message at 20:35 on Feb 13, 2014 |

It is detrimental if you put a point that was more useful in another stat into EN so you could get all nine implants. But no, only traits (and, some would argue, the night vision perk) have the potential to have both benefits and drawbacks.

So I just finished Dead Money with my melee/unarmed/low speech character, and I definitely loved it -- started it around level 12 and the knife spear was brutal against the ghost people. Some questions though: Did I really have to kill Dog/God? I could use a magazine to pass the first skill check in their final conversation with me, but not the next one. Was there any way to bring God back in control in advance of the "Please don't ignite the gas!"? also, Was it wrong of me to just run backwards through the final chamber after getting out of the vault, completely sidestepping Elijah? I told him that was exactly what I would do, so... that's not cheap right? Either way, that was great for the first time playing it... I feel like I would have hated it if I was playing a guns character, could I have really fed a gun enough ammo with the vending machines?
|
# ? Feb 16, 2014 02:26 |

To answer both: Did you have to? No, you can do other things but they require speech checks of 75 and 85, I believe. So for that character, you were pretty much out of options. Was it wrong of you? No. Anything you do down there is fine; that's one of the more obvious paths out but it's totally legit.
|

There are a few routes you can go with Dog/God. You can fight and kill them. You can Speech check either personality into 'murdering' the other, but I think this depends on how nice you were to them beforehand (like, not locking them into the cage with the switch when they asked you not to). You can merge them by not having them hate you and then passing another Speech check. And yeah, God can be summoned by playing his tape before Dog notices you and starts up his dialogue.
|
# ? Feb 16, 2014 02:42 |

It's worth noting that in God/Dog's ending if you've been helping God for the most part and decide to help him take control, he doesn't 'murder' Dog the way Dog does to him. He just locks him away to be assisted at a later date. It's kind of a strange ending to get, because assuming you're not actually forcing them at any point, you're still likely to be helping Dog more; not only because God constantly threatens you for literally no reason, but because Dog tears through ghost people like paper, so you're likely to roll with him for combat purposes alone. Still, it's probably the 'best' God/Dog ending to me, because God is actually grateful, drops his grudge and moves on with his life, and the 90 Speech ending entails the courier giving someone amnesia and going "Hey, good luck!"
