I figured that they can't die without fulfilling their task, and the extreme pain and suffering existence brings them is the proverbial fire under their asses to motivate them to do their tasks and do it as well as they can.

I don't think they dislike existence, it's just that they're only meant to exist for a short time. Once that gets stretched out is when they start suffering and desiring death.

For short periods of time, at least.

I always kind of wonder what his own take on his drinking is. It seems like he's developed a pretty effective and adaptive coping mechanism, but I also think he has enough insight and is cynical enough to understand that it's dysfunctional as all hell. I don't think he's ashamed of it or views it as a flaw per se, but I also don't really see him wanting Morty to follow in his exact footsteps there.

"Dick and Mortality". Anyways, Rick has a Gandalf vibe to me, as in he only uses his technology or intellect when he needs to. There are tons of ways I'm sure Rick could use science to solve any problem much more efficiently then he actually does solve it, but he knows it within his power to solve it more directly. Also sometimes replacing "let science do it" with "make Morty do it".

I think that Rick's just a lazy sociopath who says "make Morty do it" because he's just a lazy sociopath. No higher Maiar-esque higher reasoning behind it, really.

Rick's very clearly not a sociopath. He's not even that aggressive a dick when it comes to Morty-- he pushes Morty hard but he knows when to stop, listen, and slow his roll. We have seen this demonstrated multiple times.

Also sometimes replacing "let science do it" with "make Morty do it". This is like the exact opposite of what happens in the show. Rick is hilariously irresponsible with his incredibly powerful technology. From Lawnmower Dog to the Meeseeks to Chronenberging the entire world, he'll hand out gadgets and formulas to his family that are capable of destroying the planet because they're being a minor inconvenience to him at the moment, or because he wants to teach them a lesson. He has a habit of letting things go too far and a lot of the messes he has to clean up are his own. Also if the latest episode is anything to go by, Rick using science to solve his problems is a really loving bad idea.

I'm referring more to the little things in life. With Rick's abilities there are so many ways to get, say, Mega-seeds back to his lab/daughter's garage without shoving them up his butt. He said hes done that a lot. I just feel like if something doesn't REQUIRE technology to be done, he wont use it. Many of his issues do require technology so this trait isn't on display much. (edit) I also think that Rick isn't a sociopath, I think he just feels completely numb and disconnected from reality. In line with the nihilistic theme of the show, I think he just knows that absolutely nothing really matters in the end. If I abandoned a bunch of realities in an infinite sea of realities, I'd become a numb alcoholic and treat everyone like a stranger eventually too. Every time he shows sympathy, like for Morty, its just his instinctive human core at play. Also, a thought about the most recent episode. At one point Rick opens the fridge, shakes a soda and puts it back in the fridge. Later they go to an alternate dimension, and there he opens the "same" fridge and grabs a soda and fearlessly opens it. It could be a different soda but it could also be that this reality's Rick never shook one earlier that day. Please hold your thoughts while I write a very extensive fan-fiction on this matter. My theory on the necessity of the "Look at me!" catchphrase is that since a Meeseeks tends to need the cooperation of his summoner to complete a task (not always, like with the pickle jar, but in countless other cases), they compulsively encourage people to pay attention to them.

While rewatching the scammers episode, I noticed that Ricks safe passcode is 1053. I'm guessing that's his birthdate, and he was born in October 1953, which would make him 61 now.

I think the Rick that we're following stayed close to his wife and shared science adventures with her, ultimately leading to her death, then dimension-hopped to a world where he'd kept her at a disatnce and replaced or maybe traded places with his alternate self so he could be in a universe where he hadn't made that mistake and she had a normal life. Morty is his attempt to reclaim the good old days of sharing science adventures with his family, and this time not loving it up. (Which happens anyway because he's still Rick.) Now It's been too long between episodes. I know now why the Meeseek cries. Look at me!

A second series has been confirmed but there's no other details as yet.

I'm pimping this as hard as I can while it's on hiatus. I've rewatched a few of them and Morty does a lot better with the ladies than the show would indicate. I mean they all disappear/fail quickly or have puffy vaginas but for a 14yr old he's doing alright.
