a miserable failure as a person

an incredible success as a magical murder spider

I think it was more than that, though. If I'm remembering this correctly, I went into it not knowing anything about the source material or how it was altered and I still came away with the impression that something had gone horribly wrong somewhere. The whole thing seemed disjointed and I was struggling to work out why I should care about what was happening or anyone involved. I think the plant monster at the end literally came out of nowhere, too.

That could still be more of a script problem, I guess.

The actual novels for Kara no Kyoukai are a bit of a mess to begin with; Nasu famously didn't seem to care for them at all before ufotable took a crack at it. Seemingly they were able to cover for the weaknesses in the other chapters better than they were able to do so in Oblivion Recorder.

Interestingly Nasu offered to clean up his stuff when it was going to get adapted but ufotable was like that's not needed as the original is fine.

Well, I think his attitude toward the original novels is more that he was happy with the final product when he wrote them as a novice, but that was like 15 years ago and the movies are so good in his eyes that they've basically completely supplanted the novels as the definitive Kara no Kyoukai. I think the official line is like "The novels were alright when they came out, but seriously, go watch the movies".

That would be so cool, but the last I heard was something along the lines of "I'm done with their story and revisiting it doesn't interest me at all".

I would be absolutely fine with it happening though!

That chapter has always seem out of placed in context of all the other movies/chapters. It's definitely the lightest story compared to the dark and heavy themes of the others. Other than relating directly to Shiki towards the end, it's pretty much a side story to lighten up the mood before the finale chapter following it.

As for direction, I thought overall it was fine, nothing special or outstanding but that the climax of the movie was a bit fumbled. Perhaps it should have served as a signpost of what was to come in the 7th movie for me which was fumbled as well.

I'm sorry but it's now canon that Megaroad-01 and everyone in it were transported another galaxy. So unless it's about them there, the story with them is done. I believe this is published in the Macross Chronicles magazines or something.

I get the feeling that whole "transported to another galaxy" thing is a kind way for the writers to say "their story is done, it's time to move on".

Oreca Battle and Dragon Collection will be this season's new hotness.
Trust me :getin:

(Are they even different? The main character is basically the same "Big Bangs, Blue Eyes, Red Theme" and the dragons look near identical)

Definitely checking out Captain Earth. I feel obligated to check out anything by Utena Alumni

Also, not sure if it's against the rules to talk about upcoming seasons, but does anyone know about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYWOG9q2HpI Houseki no Kuni(sometimes translated as Jewel Kingdom)? It has a strong shoujo flair, it's sparkling and shiny, and it seems to be about people fighting against Buddhist monsters from the moon. Plus, when else will you get a chance to see gems fight?

E:Just checked out OBDC's page. It's made by Konami and is attached to a card machine in an arcade. OF COURSE

Do note that this has already been picked up for Western streaming by Netflix of all companies. As per usual with Netflix, it's going to be a "release everything at once" type job, and they're going to dub it beforehand, too. Expect to be waiting until the summer for that.

Here's a summary of the first chapter.

"HEY TRANSFER STUDENT YOU SURE DO SMELL NICE"
"She's a bear. I think. Is she a bear? I'm having dreams about her being a bear. She likes salmon, is that because she's a bear?"
"Hey I think you're a bear." "Yes. No. Maybe."
"Wanna be 'friends'?" "Yes let's be 'friends'."

And then Ikuhara blasts off into space by farting lilies.

Supposedly Funimation has finally fixed the buffer issues with their streaming service. I gave them another chance this past weekend to watch a few Winter series I hadn't seen, and it was still just as bad as it was when I tried it a year ago. Strangely the free stream (which interrupted with Jake and The Neverland Pirates commercials) worked pretty good.

You sure it wasn't just the Hulu player on the free version? They sometimes embed the Hulu versions instead of using their own player. Hulu's works well, but since the stupid commercials are coded into the player you can't get rid of them except by having Hulu Plus.

Dehry

No, it was a single commercial that had "For testing purposes only" popping up over the elite player. The Hulu window would appear for free subbed versions. I was watching Haganai on a subscription and it would buffer every 30 seconds of content. The forums seem to indicate it's been an ongoing issue.

E2: It appears to be working normally. I haven't had to buffer at all this evening.
Hulu plus also has ads though.

A new(?) digital manga site is officially releasing Takako Shimura's manga Aoi Hana starting next month.

quote:

Digital Manga Guild first listed Sweet Blue Flowers as a potential project last year.

Shimura ended the manga last July. Shimura launched the manga in 2004, and Ohta Books published the eighth compiled book volume in September. The story inspired a television anime from director Kenichi Kasai (Honey and Clover, Kimikiss pure rouge, Nodame Cantabile) and J.C. Staff in 2009. Crunchyroll streamed the anime into several countries as it aired in Japan, and Right Stuf released the anime on DVD in North America last year.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-03-27/digital-manga-adds-sweet-blue-flowers-kimagure-orange-road-asobi-ni-ikuyo-on-emanga

It looks like that site kinda leans towards the uh...porn-y end of things so I'm not really sure why they decided to pick up Sweet Blue Flowers which is almost the opposite of that.

I guess yay I can finally legitimately buy it? (again. Stupid jmanga)

I dont think so unless Anno has to pay Gainax royalties for something he himself made. The Rebuild series is being done by Anno's own studio. Studio Khara.

Yes but it's being done in "conjunction" with Gainax. I don't think Anno owns any particular rights to the Evangelion franchise.
