Borgan constantly referring to everything with food-related terms of endearment makes him very amusing in a very high-cholesterol way. That and the whole game referring to him with some kind of gross or fat verbiage every time he's the subject is equally hilarious. This is one of the most loathsome tracks in the whole game. I get so sick of it after its trillionth repetitive verse. Zeikier fucked around with this message at 23:50 on Feb 16, 2014 |

A quick Googling gives me this--to get the Alex puppet, people had to buy Eternal Blue for the PSX and the Silver Star Story port for the PC, then mail in the UPC codes for both. A very few Alex puppets seem to have popped up on eBay over the years, mostly going for stupid amounts of money, so they do seem to actually exist.

The Silver Star Story PC port was a very blink and you miss it thing. Unlike the massive magazine blitz they did for the PSX version you really only knew it existed if you were on their forums constantly.

I assumed Punching Puppet Alex was the preorder bonus for Lunar 1: SSSC or something. Wikipedia says nothing about a Lunar 2 PC port, and Working Designs apparently passed on the PC port of Lunar 1 because it was too buggy.

That's kinda Working Designs all over really. Send out half assed ports, never get around to releasing Eternal Blue. It's really a kick to teh teeth, if memory serves there's like 5 versions of Silver Star, while the most recent edition of Eternal Blue is in fact the PS1 version (ie this LP). It's hosed.

Whoops. I had Game Arts in my head but typed Working Designs. Stupid of me. But yeah, I do wish Game Arts was an actual developer rather than, at least by available evidence, some sort of IP-holding grounds, reprinting old games just in case some higher corporate ownership decides they want to cash in some day. (I don't have direct evidence this is the case, just they haven't put out a new game in... five years? And that was some sort of Grandia 1-based MMO as I understand it.)

Episode 40: Lasagna for One : "I can't believe Lemina's mom got kidnapped right in front of us!" : "Didn't that happen a while ago?" : "No! It happened just now, you insensitive clod!" : "You sure? Jesus, it feels like it was months ago." : "Why's my sword all rusty?" : "Hiro, will you assist me in removing these 'cobbed webs' from my hair?" : "Instead of dwelling on any of...whatever this is, we should probably go check on Lemina." Since absolutely nothing happened, let's just continue as normal and follow after Lemmy. i see you you saucy bastard Music ~ Somber Memories : "I was gonna say something about you being our leader and having to take charge..." : "Just like...whistle or something if it looks like she's about to cast that Firestorm poo poo so we can duck back inside." Before we talk to Lemina, the ladies also have some things to say. : "I do not have the gift for inspiration that you possess. It must be a...human trait. Lemina was only trying her hardest to complete a mission, just as I am." : "And, like me, her mission has become a tremendous burden..." : "...but she was trying to get enough to restose the Magic Guild." : "She's been working so hard, and everyone thought she was greedy. How brave of her..." Let's give this a shot. Hopefully, Hiro has something better than 'Sorry bout your mom' up his sleeve. : "My mother knew I was too weak to do anything, Hiro. That's why she told me to accept the Magic Guild the way it is." My usual tactic for when stuff gets heavy is to make a dumb joke, so let's try that. As usual, it doesn't work so great. Let's rewind a little. Let's try a Winger : "Can you tell it's my first?" : "Uh, YEAH...but I do appreciate the effort." The rest of the party joins as the music returns to the usual Vane tunes : "Hey, Lemina. There's no shame in being the only member of the Magic Guild! There are certain situations where being the only member can be quite pleasant, in fact." : "And I'll join you as a member of the Guild...that is, if you'll have me." : "I don't understand the people of this world very well..." : "My only thoughts this entire time have been how to get you all into the Guild. But you...you're all concerned about me...me... personally!" : "So let's get moving! We're headed for the Holy City of Pentagulia, where we'll find Borgan and rescue Mother!" : "That lard-butt is going to pay dearly for putting me through this, I assure you!" Hiro's not into girls from the same planet as him. And now we're back on the road! After we reach Pentagulia, we can start working on one of the, what, three goals we have at the moment? We gotta kill magic Galactus, defeat the Foot Clan, and rescue Lem's mom. That's all, right? Pretty sure that's all. : "Tools? I kinda figured we'd just kinda throw Jean at him and then go get burritos or something." : "It worked on the yeti." yessss gimme da loot Huh. I'm not actually sure what Lemina's Purse actually does. I THINK it increases the money you get from enemies, but it might also do absolutely nothing. Either way, I give it to Lem cuz, y'know, it's her purse. Gross. But I guess that means this is Lemina's office? Yup, definitely Lem's office. This cute little guy actually boosts both the Magic and Magic Defense of whoever you equip it on. Naturally, it goes to Lem. Oh my. We should leave : "Tell me, little guy, what kinds of stories does Lemina tell you?" : "Lemina tells us stories of how to spend money without wasting it and how to hoard money in really good hiding places where no one will ever find it and how to haggle down the price of anything!" The Seal Crest gives the wearer access to Silence spells. We can combine it the Power Crest (which Jean has) to add a Silence effect to a character's physical attacks. Sleep is more effect against the random monsters coming up, but this will be very useful later. : "...something that you WILL need to know when you become the Premier of the Magic Guild." : "But what could that be? Mother has already told me everything about Vane!" poo poo like this is why I hate wizards. We're doin' important poo poo, old man, we don't have time for your cryptic Yoda crap! If what you're talking about turns out to be the power of friendship or some poo poo, I'mma shove your wand right up your rear end. Can you believe that dude? Anyway, let's finally take a look in the Magic Library. This place is full of books we can actually read. Some of them have world-building stuff, some of them are just jokes. We'll be looking at most of them in a bonus update. Some of them, though... Vane has some pretty nice loot laying around, all in all. : "What in the gently caress is wrong with this library?" : "Maybe we need to be a little stricter about book donations." What game is this? Where am I? What's happening? hauntingly beautiful : "Oh, no! Why did I leave my peom in this book?1 Don't read another word! Stop!" : "Heh, heh, heh! Until I read the last line, I didn't even know it was Lemina!" Collectibles Y'know, for fanservice, these bromides have been pretty tasteful so far. There's even a few later on for male characters. Good for you, Lunar 2. : "Hey! I prefer to think of myself as studious. Besides, by reading, I learned how to blast smart-aleck rodents with FIRE!" : "Why'd you have to say that, Ruby? You know she loves James Franco!" Poor Ronnie. It's a rough gig being the only character witha burned portrait Angel Rings are pretty great, and for many players, are key to their final boss strategy. Angel Rings instantly revive the wearer when they get KO'd, but they only work once. Best to tuck this bad boy away for a rainy day. I'm really, really upset that this is too long for a thread title. One last check-in with Lemina's...aunt(?) before we go. With that mental image seared into our brains, we set out once again. This time venturing further south, towards a place called Sluice Forest. What awaits us in another wooded area with a temperate body of water? Is it a city of merfolk? A giant monstrous kraken?! Another bath scene?!? Find out next time on Lunar 2: Ballad of the Colon Sounds!

W.T. Fits posted:Something amusing someone else noticed in the SaGa Frontier LP: Ronnie's got a lot on his plate. He's got to get that money, son. Bonus Update: Your Local Library The Magic Library of Vane is, like most libraries, full of words. Let's read all those words. : There are many rumors of a way to travel to the Blue Star, but they have never been confirmed. If such a method truly existed, it would have most likely been discovered by now. Turns out the secret to space travel was ancient crystals and naked anime girls. Lunar scientists really should have foreseen that. : Welcome to the exciting world of fire magic! Before reading on, please make sure you have one Flame Staff, one large bucket of water, and one flame-retardant magician's robe. : "Wait a minute. You START people with the fireballs?" : "Fireballs are like the only reason 80% of wizard even bother with spells. Might as well give people what they pay for, right?" : The Goddess Althena is born and reborn into our world, where she watches over us...but centuries often pass in between her visitations. Is the Goddess becoming more confident in our ability to live peacefully with each other? Or are we abandoned children? It must be really hard to have a crisis of faith in a world where God literally pops in to visit every couple generations. : The earliest festivals were held to offer human sacrifices to the gods of war. : Though barbaric, many scholars agree that it was "pretty fuckin' metal". : Today's festivals are held to honor Althena, and instead of human lives, we offer her singing and dancing. Althena revels in watching her children celebrate their existence : "This book is right on the mark!" : The existance of the Vile Tribe was confirmed during the terrible battle in which Vane fell from the sky. The behaviors and desires of the Vile Tribe are still shrouded in darkness but it is clear that they have not chosen to coexist peacefully with humanity. Phacia was one of Ghaleon's Even Phacia gave up her evil ways, but not before vandalizing library property : A way to move heavy objects, whether or not one possesses considerable strength. A way to escape dangerous situations, whether or not one can move quickly. These simple desires of men led to the discovery of magic. And now, because of magic, mankind can achieve things never before imagined. I remember that quest! Throwing yourself into radioactive slurry for fun and profit! : Learn to survive any type of harsh environment. Also includes scrumptious monster recipes! This is a trick : Filled with tips and techniques to make the most disagreeable pussy eat out of your hand. Ronfar doesn't know poo poo about cats : There are many creatures other than humans in this land of Lunar. The most obvious example is the race of beastmen, which are strongly similar to humans. There are also the Four Dragons, which serve Althena, and the Vile Tribe, about which very little is known. dang look at this fukkin nerd : When reading any historical document, it is very important to remember that the contents of the document will never be entirely accurate, nor can they ever be. History is shaped by those who record it, and by the inevitable influence of time. Surprisingly deep for a book in the same building as the Colon Tome : Nothing is more senseless in this world than the act of war. The Goddess mourns when her own children willingly end each other's precious lives... Althena hates death. That's why she is served by a sword wielding knight and four fire-breathing dragons! : "Lem, why is there just a pile of fortune cookies sitting on this shelf?" : "Library snacks!" : Across the sea is the Holy City of Pentagulia. Althena's tower, in which the Goddess Althena dwelled, was once located in the Holy City. The Goddess us said to have sealed a great evil within its walls, never to be unleashed. : All of us were brought to this land from the Blue Star, guided by the Goddess Althena. The blessings of Althena exist in everyone, planted like seeds. You heard it here first, folks: Althena waits patiently to EAT YOU : "Yay." : "Aw man, I got like 8 jokes for that, but you're 15 or something, and they are all disgusting." : "Hey, Jean, do you wanna hear--" : "No." : "I can't read this book at all!" : "Of course not, Hiro. How are you supposed to read all those weird runes?" : "There's no way that any of you will be able to read that ancient book!" Yuuuup : Long ago, Vane was a city held aloft in the skies with the power of magic. Only those blessed with magical ability lived there, and they conducted intense research. The Magic Guild of Vane was the most powerful influence in the known world. : The Goddess Althena keeps an eternal watch over our world and when the Goddess is reborn into our world, the Dragonmaster stands close at her side. While the Goddess is constantly reborn unto us, the Dragonmaster is not. But when the Goddess vanishes, so does the Dragonmaster... : Long ago, Vane was a city held aloft in the skies with the power of magic. But it was made to fall by the Goddess Althena, who was under the control of Ghaleon, the Magic Emperor. It is said that the influence of the Magic Guild disappeared when Vane plunged to earth. As the citizens of Vane relocated to cities around the world, they took with them their knowledge of magic. And what was once considered and arcane art became almost commonplace. In this new world, the Magic Guild was considered quaint. Subtitle: That Smug Motherfucker, You Know The One : Ghaleon, one of the original Four Heroes, had a very strong and unusual magical power. He used this power to take control of Althena, and plunge the world into darkness. : "Hmm, what motivation could a megalomaniacal psychopath possibly have for world domination?" : "Why don't you ask his roommates, a literal magic garden full of fuckin' pixies?" : The Blue Star that shines in the sky is our ancestral home. Our ancestors were guided to this land from the Blue Star by the Goddess Althena. : "Good Goddess, Lem. Next time you need donations, you should just show people this gross-rear end dump." : "That's not a bad idea, Ronfar." Little known fact about early American revolutionary Thomas Paine: he was actually an anime lady. ...we should probably get to work on rescuing Miria, shouldn't we? And that's all for the Vane Library! Just a few more things to cover before we leave Vane altogether. Forums poster dis astranagant confirmed that Lemina's Purse does boost your cash winnings from random battles by something like 5%. Not a whole lot, but still something. And poster Bufuman reminded me about this little goodie. The Thunder Crest gives the wearer access to Lightning element spells, which no one learns naturally (unless you count Lucia, I guess). It goes straight to Lemina, for what should be obvious reasons. And, finally, fellow Lunar explorer Camel Pimp reminded me that you can actually peep in Lemina's diary if you take a look when she's not in the party. What kind of juicy secrets await us? Aw jeeze
