Next, someone will post the video, followed by a couple dozen posts of people alternately blaming the parents or the baby. At least one person will drop an edgy comment about how lovely cats are, which will cause at least one other person to respond with an edgy comment about children. After a page or two, the rage will taper off and the debate will come to an end until the next time someone posts that gif.

Somebody posted that on my Facebook page DEMANDING that everybody get together and track down the owner of the cat to have it put down. Half the responses were to have the parents put down for not teaching the kid to play nice with the kitty.

The cat doesn't even stick around. He gave the baby a swat in kind. Some people want to protect the baby at all costs, but I think part of that would include having it learn not to punch a predator half its size in the goddamn face.

A friend's kids used to chase and scare one of my cats when they were about that age. Now that they've grown up some and just want to pet him, he trembles and hisses and tries to attack them if they get close even though that was years ago.
